No, I meant humming as in the sense of a steady vibration, it is the spinning of the drive I refer to.
You will only detect this spinniong if it is a mechanical drive and the drive is in use.
An external drive can be plugger into your p c sith the usb cable and you will detect no spinning if no activity is happening on the drive.

May I please ask you what is the difference between vibration and humning on a passport? So, if I hear humning on my Passport external drive, what will that tell me, Will that tell me if my Passport is a SSD or macanical drive?
