Monte explained the spinning drive, but an SSd has no moving parts, so you would feel  nothing if you were to hold a working SSD drive.

May I please ask you what is the difference between vibration and humning on a passport? So, if I hear humning on my Passport external drive, what will that tell me, Will that tell me if my Passport is a SSD or macanical drive?

A western digital my passport drive can be wither mechanical or s s d.
As I wrote earlier, do you feel any vibration or hum from the drive when you connect it to your computer?
