My limited understanding of this virus was it is send in a link and or attachment in an email.

Again I don’t think you can get it directly from visiting a site, please correct me if I am wrong.

cheers

I’m sure there are people out there going places they really need this thing. not that they are testing it, but just go to sites better left alone. smiles.

I’ll download it and then keep it handy and probably install it either later today or tomorrow.

thanks for this Carlos. have a great day

True enough, and I can certainly understand wanting to wait for some reviews, but it seems to be light on resources so I don't mind leaving it running in the background.  Although I may not be the best person for testing such tools since I'm pretty good about avoiding malware infections.  It will have to be tested by specialists who intentionally infect machines with ransomware to see how well it truly performs.

hmm, I’m wondering if I should download it and give it a try, but how does a person know if it is working? someone has to try to hijack your files before you even know if it works...right?

it is free so that part is good, but I think I’ll wait for a while and see more reviews. I like the idea of the program and hope reviews are forthcoming soon.

thanks Carlos.

I took a quick look and basically found more or less what I was expecting.  There are some positive references about the tool and the company itself, but it seems that the program has been only recently released so it is too soon for there to be much in the way of reviews at this point.

Hi Dave,

Not really.  The product seems to be fairly new and I just found it last night while browsing SnapFiles.  I'll look around when I have a chance and see if there are any reviews, but it may be too soon.

Have you seen any reviews on it?

Here is an interesting security tool which might be worth a look.

Description from SnapFiles:

Cybereason RansomFree is a security application that protects you from ransomeware, which are malicious programs that
encrypt the files on your computer, making them inaccessible, and demand a ransom payment to restore access. Cybereason RansomFree watches the way applications
interact with files, and when it detects ransomware behavior, it stops it immediately before the files are encrypted. The application uses pure behavioral
detection techniques and does not rely on malware signatures. Once you install RansomFree, you are automatically protected, there is no interface and no
configuration options other than a tray icon that indicates that the protection is active.
