Again, you need to setup the account into windows live mail, so it can go out and retreeve your messages from the server.
You need to have the incoming, and outgoing, and have the server port numbers set correctly..

Gene, Yes, I do understand setting the program as the default, but I’m asking what else do I need to do to have WLM work like I want it to. Am I correct in thinking you use WLM? Janet

Whether the program is the default or not, you have to set it up in the same way. You have to set up accounts in the same way and change whatever settings you want to change in the program. Making a program the default has nothing to do with how the program performs or what you have to do to set it up. It just means that the program will open and run when you do something outside of the program and some program needs to open and do something such as display a file. I gave examples in my previous message. That's the only thing setting a program as default does
If you need information about how to set up accounts in the program, let us know.
I'll add that importing accounts is completely unrelated to setting a program as default. I don't know if you can import accounts from Outlook into Windows Live Mail. Others may know. If you can import your existing accounts, you will save time and work by not having to manually set them up in Windows Live Mail. But as I said, I have no idea whether Windows Live Mail allows you to do this from Outlook.

Ok, I can understand what your saying, but after I set WLM as the default, don’t I need to configure some settings such as I would like to see the date or the time in the subject line. If I set WLM as the default, is that all I need to do though? Do I need to know the service addresses for the outgoing and incoming mail? Janet

As far as I know, all that setting any program to be the default does is mean that it will do things when not actually instructed to by you.

Hi Mike, Beautiful message from Carlos I love it! Thank you. If I set this to the default, do you know is it difficult to set it up, meaning the incoming and outgoing mail settings? Janet

Hi Janet,
You probably need to set WLM as your default email client 1st, here's how: From: Carlos Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! ----- Original Message ----- From: david Sent: Saturday, October 21, 2017 10:23 AM Subject: Re: [TechTalk] Outlook 2010 Question Please.
Well, she can receive mail from Hotmail outlook, etc, if she has the right incoming and outgoing servers set correctly.
From: main@TechTalk.groups.io [mailto:main@TechTalk.groups.io] On Behalf Of Marie
She is getting the error because WLM will not send and receive email from a Hotmail, Live or Outlook account.

I'm not sure what Windows Live Mail is doing. Microsoft, the company, doesn't send spam. I don't know what you are receiving nor whether using a different program will solve the problem.
Why Windows Live Mail gives you that message, I don't know but if you remove Outlook and don’t have Windows Live Mail set up yet to work with your e-mail provider, you will not be able to send and receive mail at all.

Gene, Wow, I’m glad to see I can receive a message, and you wouldn’t believe how I have to check this Outlook for new messages! I think MS must have put some kind of spam on my Outlook because I keep getting junk emails fromMS, and I delete them, but they keep coming back, and I’ve had thousands and thousands of these emails from MS. Never the less, I just want to get rid of it. When you say until you have installed Windows Live Mail and it is set up with your account, are you talking about the account with WLm? I don’t think I can setup WLm as long as I have this Outlook on the computer, because it seems like Outlook always seems to interfear with installing another mail program. I have WLM on my computer, but as soon as I open WLM, I get a message saying arror can’t receive or send messages from Janet Outlook. I think I should maybe uninstall WLM, and try to reset it again. If that makes any sense. io] On Behalf Of Gene I looked for some way to uninstall WLM, but can’t find anything. I even looked in the control panel, and still can’t find it. Janet
It doesn't matter if Outlook is installed or not. You can install and use Windows Live Mail either way. It would be a good idea to keep Outlook until you have installed Windows Live Mail and it is set up with your account and working properly.
