Re: looking for a diary for windows

Both the period and LOG being in all caps is essential such as .LOG was mentioned before. Just try it for yourself to quickly see, or read what Microsoft says quite clearly below about the subject matter.

How to Use Notepad to Create a Log File:

Content provided by Microsoft.

Microsoft Notepad is a word processing tool included with Windows and is installed by default under the Accessories program group. You can use it to create a log-type file that adds the current date and time each time the Notepad file is opened. This article describes how to create a log file with Notepad.

To create a log file in Notepad:

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Notepad. Type .LOG on the first line, and then press ENTER to move to the next line. On the File menu, click Save As, type a descriptive name for your file in the File name box, and then click OK. When you next open the file, note that the date and time have been appended to the end of the log, immediately preceding the place where new text can be added. You can use this functionality to automatically add the current date and time to each log entry.

To be more specific, You open a notepad document, type
on the first line, press enter and then save it as whatever name you want to
give it. The next time you open it and on all subsequent openings, the date
and time will be inserted automatically and the cursor will be at the bottom
of the document.
I have used this for a daily journal for many years and love it. I also use
another one on my desktop, simply named Notes for jotting down things that I
need to remember. Sort of like post it notes.

Well it's truly not a diary so to speak, but if you specifically type at the
very top of a Notepad document ".LOG," it will automatically enter the date
and time as it's saved. Notice the LOG in the above .LOG is in all caps.
