I have an even easier formula. I spend most of it on beer and women, and I
waste the rest.

I know how much money I have for the month.
I keep a running balance as I spend it. All the big items get paid at the
first of the month, the rest is for food, fun, and more fun if it goes
that far!

Hi all,

Budgeting is difficult sometimes. If you break it down to its essential
parts, what you have is an amount of money that's coming in.
You have an amount of money that is going out to pay for things.
Budgeting is just deciding how much of your money is going out and for what.
You sit down and write down what expenses you have each month that are
regular e.g. rent or mortgage, transportation, utilities including internet
and both landline and mobile phones, credit cards or other debt, food. Then
you figure out how much money is left for
saving and for discretionary funds. That's pretty much it.

I don't keep a written budget, but I know in general terms how much money I
have and what it's been spent on. Many people write their budgets down.
Some do not.
