Re: Zoom

Hi, Susie.

Not to worry. With Zoom becoming incredibly popular these days many people are discovering it and are using it for the first time and so you are not alone in being new to it.

It is not necessary to have a camera when participating in a Zoom meeting. Technically, you can even join a Zoom meeting without even having a microphone although it means you'll just be able to listen to others in the meeting. For a PC or Mac I personally recommend a headset with an attached microphone. With your iPhone you already have a mic and camera as it uses the ones which are already part of the phone.

Whether you participate in a Zoom meeting with a computer or with your iPhone you should first download the Zoom program, which is free of cost.

For the iPhone you can find it by going to the app store on your device and searching for Zoom Cloud Meetings.

For a PC you can go to this link and look for the heading labeled

Zoom Client for Meetings

and download that program to your computer.

Once it's been downloaded you'll need to open your Downloads folder and run the installer.

If you're interested I just started a discussion list for people to ask questions specific to Zoom. I will warn you that the list is currently generating a large amount of message traffic but you will likely get answers to your questions very quickly. You could always unsubscribe later once you feel that you've got enough information to get you started.

Howdy all.

Everybody seems to be doing Zoom meetings these days. Our church choir director is talking about having a Zoom meeting since we can’t all be with each other.

I have a Windows 7 computer, no camera, no microphone, not even Bluetooth. I also have an iPhone 7.

Is Zoom an app? Am I better off doing it on the phone, since it has a camera? Do I have to do anything special on the phone to make this work—like turning off the screen curtain or some other setting? I admit to being a rank amateur here.

I’m not even sure you can do it from the desk top app any longer. I changed my apple id a couple of weeks ago and had to reauthorize apple music. Seems to me I had to use the IOS app do to it.

I didn't have to use the pc app to link Sonos with my Apple Music subscription which essentially is my Apple ID. I did it right within the app on my phone.

Hello Robin

I hear what you say but I am sure there was an item in Sonos on my iPhone 7 which said something like “music on this iPhone”. I do not know what is the use of the sonos app if I can only stream radio stations and music from my pc. Maybe I am just stupid but the sonos support people make it so difficult to ask for support that it is not worth while all the trouble. A shame for a company with such excellent but expensive products.

I don't think you can. You can use airplay to play that which is on your phone through Sonos but I don't think you can get music resident on your phone to show up within the Sonos app. If I'm incorrect I'm sure others will chime in but this is the only way I've known it to be. o you're correct you can add the library you might have on a pc or networked drive as long as it's powered on it can be accessed but I do not believe the same holds true for the phone.

Take good care.

Hello list
I loaded lots of music on my new iPhone 11. Now I installed the Sonos app
and it piciked up my sonos system but it just shows radio stations but no
music on my phone. In system settings there is an option to add folders but
one has to type a name, so I assume that is for folders on a pc which runs
sonos. How do I get sonos to see the music on my iPhone?
