And, right there, you have your answer. Many, many sites will not even allow entry with IE these days. Others, and it looks like FB is one of them, will allow entry but when any link is triggered will force the use of a more secure browser maintained to current standards.
I avoid FB like the plague, so I really can't help you there. But FB has to work in all the major browsers, so what you're looking for but have been unable to access still has to be there somewhere.

And if you web search on “Why you should not use Internet Explorer” the list of returned results is long, and virtually unanimous in the expert (and non-expert) opinion that you should not.
