Ron, when you're in the Addons dialog look for a button labeled "more options" which will then show you this second unlabeled check box.

Hi Brian,

I d not see a second checkbox under the add on dialogue for this add on.  I wonder what screen reader you are using.

I said this to Gene privately recently, but since it's come up here, I do not have this problem, many other people I know do not have this problem with the latest versions of Thunderbird and the Quick Folder Key Navigation Add-On.

When I open the Thunderbird Add-Ons manager and hit the triple-dot menu button for Quick Folder Key Navigation and go to its options, I do see something "odd" that I can't explain why it's this way, but it's worth checking.  There are two checkboxes in the Options, one clearly labeled, "Enable Mail-folder key navigation," along with a second, unlabeled checkbox that is checked.  I have no idea if something will be announced beyond "checkbox" for that second checkbox, but mine's checked and the issue described with constant need to disable/reenable is not occurring, and that's over a long period now.

The description in the add-on manager also goes into further detail than it once did, and I'll put the text here for easier review:
General Description: This extension makes it possible to quickly navigate to a particular folder in the folder pane simply by typing the first few letters of the folder name when the folder pane has focus. Note that single-letter Thunderbird short-cuts (such as "p" and "n" for moving to the previous and next unread message respectively) do not work in the folder pane when key navigation is enabled. Therefore, There is an option to turn key navigation on/off, as well as for adding this option to the context menu when the folder pane has focus.
