That pretty well sums it up.
I thought the program was installed because it was in the msconfig startup list.
Gene Asner suggested that the program was not really installed.
So I typed the name in the start search and chose yes when questioned by install checker.
Then dropbox showed up in the notification area.

I had a similar issue a while back. I finally uninstalled drop box, then reinstalled it, linked up again and all was well.
Here is the picture; I have win10 20h2, current version of nvda and chrome.
I cannot upload anythingto dropbox.
This may have happened around new years; not sure.
Dropbox is set to run at startup and to appear in the notifications area.
It does not show in the notifications area. I find the dropbox folder in the “user folder” on my C drive.
It does not show up in File Explorer.
