Re: Send Space & Free Downloads

Why don’t you use simple HTML?  Its safer.  Simple HTML allows formatting information used in a message but won’t let HTML code run.  While its not likely that malicious HTML code will be present in an e-mail, why take an unnecessary risk for no benefit?

Hi Lisa,

Okay I just installed T-Bird to play around and I think I found the settings for this.  Try the following to see if your settings are the same.
1. While in the In-box press, Alt + T, for the Tool menu, up arrow to, Options and press enter.

2. Tab until you get to the Advanced button and press the spacebar to open.

3. Now tab several times to the following, Text Encoding Horizontal Outgoing Mail: Alt+Shift+u Combo box
Unicode (UTF-8)

Text Encoding
Horizontal Incoming Mail: Alt+Shift+I Combo box
Unicode (UTF-8)

Text Encoding
checked When possible, use the default text encoding in replies Alt+Shift+h check box

The above are my settings and I don't get the extra symbols, , when I send / receive messages, and I set T-Bird to Original HTML, or whatever the option is above simple HTML.

Oh yes, I know about them. I've played around with the settings in Thunderbird, but they don't seem to go away.

Right now I have messages displaying in simple HTML and they're being sent with plain text.

I don't see them until I read a post on a list. It has to be something TB is putting in there. It's not just on lists, it's to anyone regardless of text or HTML.

It's very annoying and makes me look like a worse writer than I am. LOL

Any thoughts?

Mike, I use Google Chrome and Brave and this is how I download free Sendspace files.

I find the button saying download file. There's a control shift keystroke associated with this, but I don't use that. I use the context key and find the save link as option and press enter. This opens a normal save as dialog.

I've used this method for quite a while and haven't gotten any nasties yet.
