I have been using nvda for 10 years. My way of making donations to nvda is to purchase their tutorials for such things as the program ms word, excel, ets. These tutorials are in various text formats or mp3. They cost about 22 u s dollars. Narrator has really improved in win10.

Scripts. Not frames. You can do a hell of a lot with scripts. Jaws is more customizable than NVDA or narrator. That being said some screen readers work be better with some apps than others. John

Are you talking about scripts or user customization such as using frames? JAWS is more user definable for those without knowledge of programming because of the ability to create frames. Frames can be very important for making programs usable without having to have the delay and possible expense of having someone script for that program.
NVDA uses scripts but the general user, as in JAWS, doesn’t directly work with, change or develop them.
Each screen-reader has its advantages and does certain things better.NVDA will meet a lot of users’ needs but there are times when it is faster and more efficient to customize JAWS.

Hi all,
I know there's the bdu list, but are there any other general lists for discussing any/all braille displays? Even better are there any lists specifically for users of Freedom Scientific's braille displays? Look forward to any info anyone can provide me!!! Thanks Madison

If you want to see about Narrator, why not try NVDA. I don’t know how
you use your computer and I don’t know how well NVDA would meet your needs but
it meets a lot of users’ needs well.

Yeah worth a phone call every year! I half expect that $120 to be higher next year, which is why I did it to begin with. If it is higher in price next year or even two years from now, then I won’t have to buy that year. John

Re: jaws license and sma
John Holcomb II
Holly, So let me tell you my story. I had an SMA thru 2023 already. So if you went to FSActivate.com and put in my serial number, it said I had an SMA thru 2023 and wouldn’t let me buy. However, when I called them they gave me the $120 price. This only works for one SMA, I asked if I could buy 2 at that discount and the answer is a nope. I was told that FS does offer these prices n every year around this time, but was also told do not quote her on that. TO me this m means for as long as she’s been working there, around the m full month of July, you can get that discounted SMA rate. But this, like anything could change. I also asked if there was a clause as to what would happen if FS went out of business, would a user get their money back? To which sails responded most likely that won’t happen (I don’t think it’d happen either), but in affect she had no idea what would happen in that situation. SO now I’m upgraded to 2025. The reason why I did it, is that I I’ve heard rumblings of SMA’s going up in price, and I want to get my money’s worth from this product since I use it every day for my primary. John

If you are going to send links to a free version of Eloquence, this is
illegal and will not be permitted. If you want to send information about
IBM’s Via Voice, that will be allowed.

Are you talking about Eloquence or Via Voice on the IBM site? It
should be Via Voice, which is not the same program and is not owned by
IBM.
I don’t know how much FS pays but I would think it would be a small amount
compared to other expenses such as development.
