I wish jaws would bring back support for sapi4, and also for decTalk access32 software. NVDA supports both of these, so I don't know why Jaws dropped support and removed them from Jaws itself.

Thanks for your reply. My issue is that in some cases I need to dial into a meeting by phone only, so I am not at my computer to click on the link, and I am not finding the 6-digit password in the Outlook invitation. Pam

Sometimes, if the link is rather long, there could be a spill over to the next line. In that circumstance, copy the link to the Clipboard, launch Notepad, WordPad or Word, use Ctrl-V to paste the link, carefully read through it one character at a time, then delete the extra unneeded space. Next, copy the new link to the Clipboard, launch your browser of choice, and press Ctrl-L to open the address bar, then Ctrl-V to paste the Clipboard content and whack <enter>. The Zoom meeting should launch with no qualms. Perhaps the above is a rather long process: No problem; carefully read the message received, look for the MEETING ID which can be a string of ten numbers and write it down somewhere; then find the MEETING PASSCODE, typically six digits long, and write that down somewhere as well. Next, launch your preferred browser and type: Zoom.us/join Then click on the LAUNCH MEETING button, type in the MEETING ID, whack <enter>; wait a moment, then type in the PASSCODE and you should be good to go. I hope I made sense thus far. If not, please YELL AT ME and I'll try again. Have fun zooming! Sincerely, Olusegun Denver, Colorado

JAWS comes with Eloquence. You say you bought it;. If you
bought the SAPI 5 Eloquence and you want to use it instead, you may. The
discussion has nothing to do with JAWS no longer supporting Eloquence or SAPI 5.
It continues to support both.

Hi Heather,
It sounds like when you do something with a file from a folder you're possibly losing focus on the folder. If you, Alt + tab, back to the folder will it close then?
Try looking at this setting and changing it if yours is different.
1. Press enter on the, This PC, icon on your desktop if you have the icon, or press, Windows key + E, to open File Explorer / This PC.
2. Press, Alt + F, then press the letter, O, to open folder options. After pressing, Alt + F, you might have to tab a couple of times to, change folder and search options, and press enter.
3. You should now be on the, General tab, so tab once or twice to, Check browse folders, and there are 2 radio buttons here. 1 is, Open each folder in the same window, and the other is, open each folder in its own window. Choose the, Open each folder in the same window, radio button if it wasn't already selected.
4. Tab, to Okay, press enter and Alt + F4 to close File Explorer / This PC.

Yes, it sometimes happens with NVDA too but not as often as it does when I am running jaws 2021. Like now, I was trying to close a folder off my external drive and it would not close the folder till I turned off jaws. Than it closes the folder. This morning I was using NVDA in my downloads folder so I copied the item I needed to the clipboard and wanted to close the folder so I did not have to many windows open as I was transferring the item to another external drive. It was having issues for closing the downloads folder till I turn off NVDA and I finally was able to close the folder. I cleaned my pc just in case, I had to much off the drive that it was affecting how the pc was running and sometimes if your processor is bogged down, it can be slow. It took off 8GB of stuff from the extra left over files I did not need. It was a slite improvement. But it did not fix this issue. I did a disk check up to see if anything was wrong with the c drive and it came back as healthy. I always check if my pc is trying to download updates, sometimes that can make the pc slow to perform a task and it said I was up to date. The only thing I could think of doing if this continues and it becomes annoying is to refresh windows with a knew copy. It may sound drastic but, when all else fails to fix an issue that maybe the only solution. Thanks Heather

But she said she’s not just having this problem with JAWS. So its not a JAWS issue either. I thought she had said its with other screen readers too. John
From: main@TechTalk.groups.io <main@TechTalk.groups.io> On Behalf Of Gene
To save you time in future, checking memory anhd deleting files is almost certain not to solve the problem. Also, when you delete all the things you did, have you made impossible to remove the update? Windows can remove updates but I would think only if it had the previous configuration backed up. Since removing all these things is almost certain not to solve the problem and may interfere with removing the update for this reason or others you may not know yet, I don’t think you should do it unless you can’t solve the problem in other far more likely ways and even then, I really doubt it would help. Since the problem is the result of a Windows update, the by far most likely cause is something in the update.
Perhaps contacting technical support for JAWS might get you more information. If this problem is affecting enough other people, they may already know about it.

Hi Heather,
What method are you using to close the folders? Are you using, Alt + left arrow, the Backspace key, or Alt + F4? I'm asking so I can experiment with a couple of settings that might be a possible culprit.
Stay safe & take care. Mike. ----- Original Message ----- From: heather albright Sent: Saturday, July 24, 2021 10:04 PM Subject: [TechTalk] strange issue between my screen reader and windows folders
Hay, I have been having this issue after the latest update of windows but, do not know if it is a windows issue or a screen reader issue. So lets say I open my documents folder or any other folder off my windows10 pc and I try to close that folder after I am finish with it. I try to not just have folders open all the time so I close them regularly. The folders will not close at all until I quit the jaws screen reader or NVDA screen reader. But, it mainly happens with jaws 2021. It will allow me to close the folder after I quit the screen reader just like it should when I had the screen reader on. I thought I just needed to restart the pc but, that did not fix the weird perplexing issue. I checked to see if the memory was an issue and I am still flying along. I cleaned my pc of all the extra junk from windows updates and temp files, issue still happens. So any ideas? It just started happening after the latest windows update. This is my current windows version: “Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1110)” Jaws “Professional Edition Version 2021.2102.34.” MVDA version: “Version: 2020.4.” I just do not know if it is a windows issue or a screen reader issue. Should I e-mail everyone? Has anyone had these issues? Thank you all. Heather

-----Original Message-----
Hi Gene, apart from the differences you described, there are also some slight
differences in how a few words are pronounced, as it seems that IBM slightly
changed the dialect the synthesizer uses. The most notable difference, however,
is that in ViaVoice TTS 6.6 and newer, IBM fixed over 300 words, including given
names, cities, and other such things that were pronounced incorrectly in
Eloquence. The version found on IBM's FTP is version 6.7.3.2, which contains all
of IBM's latest corrections. On 7/24/2021 7:11 PM, Gene wrote:
