The things you are describing are no different.  You still have about the same folders, messages still go into the inbox, commands remain exactly the same.  All IMAP is is a different way of storing and viewing mail  the interface is the same. 

 

And there may be an advantage in using IMAP no one has spoken of.  I can’t discuss other e-mail services but I would expect this to be true in general.  Before I used IMAP with GMail, I had to look on the web site at my spam folder, provided by GMail itself to show spam before it even reached my e-mail program.  Now, using IMAP, any folder used by my server for my account is accessible to me using my e-mail program.  I can look at the spam folder without going online and looking in my account.

 

I’ve heard about people accumulating thousands of messages in their inboxes using GMail that they want to get rid of.  If you delete messages using the delete key on your e-mail program, they will be sent to trash.  They are deleted from there thirty days after their arrival so you need do nothing.  If you use shift delete, the message is completely removed, it doesn’t go to the trash folder.

 

In short, IMAP makes management easier because things people have to do with POP3 accounts on the web site of GMail and perhaps with other services can be done directly from your e-mail program. 

 

So even if you don’t have the uses that have been discussed to this point for IMAP, what I’ve discussed are other reasons to consider it.  I’ll add one more:

I see messages from time to time on various lists from people who are moving to another computer.  They want to know how to take their e-mail with them.  If you use IMAP, any computer you use with an IMAP account will show all the same e-mail.  There is no need to transfer mail from one computer to another.

The only disadvantage I know of to an IMAP account is that some e-mail programs don’t let you set up message rules in the program for IMAP accounts so you have to do so on the web site itself.  Those who have done so may wish to discuss this further.

Thanks for getting back to me.  I think I told you that I hit Control Enter to send a message and to begin a message, I hit Control N.  As to the folders, I like all of my mail to go into the in box.  When I delete a message, I have it go into the trash folder and then when there is a lot, I delete them totally from that folder and they come off the computer.  I don't like to plug my computer up with messages.  I also have a sent folder that the message I send fall into.  When I start a message and can't finish it, it goes to the drafts folder and then I can go back to it after I save it.  That's all of the folders I want.

I try to do windows ke I and it doesn't work.  Is this supposed to be able to work in windows 7 also?  It sounded so easy, but when I did windows key I, I still ended up on the desktop, and the I put me on the internet explorer icon that's on the desktop.  I know, because if I arrowed after that, I saw the other icons that are on the desktop.  So, I can't seem to get into this.  Pam.

Also, you should get more than one of each tag with the sample pack unless they’ve changed it. I got 25 tags with my sample pack of various types.
