Thanks for the explanation. I greatly appreciate it. I don't know why I didn't do this years ago. I was always taught to use a Pop3 account. Do I set up iMap on gmail or do I do it on Thunderbird? Thanks again. Shelly

So if I switch to iMap, everything will be the same with a Pop3? When I switch, do I go to settings? I have never done this before. Thanks in advance. Shelly

new s s d drive
Monte Single
Hi List,
On July 24, I had a friend help me clone my 500 gig sata hard drive to a 500 gig s s d drive. It took more time to get the pc to boot to the new s s d drive than it did to clone it; the drive had about 90 gig on it when cloned. I have a 6th gen i5 processor with 8 gig of ddr4 ram in this pc. I am running win 10 pro with latest n v d a. I have the usual stuff on this pc; current chrome, office 2016, etc.. It takes about 10-12 seconds till I hear the win10 start up sound and the nvda startup sound at almost the same time. I’d say that’s fairly fast. The drive I cloned has been in use for 2 years so its got lots of residual stuff on it.
Howeverf, when it comes to starting programs, opening folders, usingbrowsers, I do not notice any significant changes.
So I have a new s s d drive on this 5 year old h p desktop. Hopefully it will last till 2025 when win 10 will, supposedly, cease to get updates.
Cheers,
Mont
P s; sure would be nice if the weather cooled down a bit; sure glad I’m not a farmer this year.

Re: alt-texting on various devices

I have the iPhone se2020. I did not see anything for alt-texting, maybe I did not look in the right places! But, the same alt-text is visible on edge, firefox, chrom and brave. But not off the facebook app when I tried viewing the same posting with 2 devices, I would think they would say the same things. I am glad, I tried both devices because, it makes it like someone did not alt-text the graphic and they did? Just my phone cant see the alt-text. Thanks Heather

Hello, I would recommend checking your voice over and speech settings to see if there is something about alt text under there. It should automatically recognize it but I’m not sure if there is something you have to turn on in order for it to recognize the text in an image.

Hi. Yes, that’s what’s so good about the system. Also, if you have a spouse or partner, or other friend and family member, and they log in to your way around account they can read your tags as well. What phone are you using? If you are using a 7 or above you don’t need to buy the way link scanner. Also, you should get more than one of each tag with the sample pack unless they’ve changed it. I got 25 tags with my sample pack of various types.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered the little sample pack to get one of each label. I am assuming if the Way link scanner dies, a new one would read all the existing labels, which is the real advantage over the Pen Friend. My main problem with the Pen Friend is that they put out a new unit which will not read the labels created with the prior version of the device. Marie

My Pen Friend finally bit the dust after years of almost daily use. Now I can’t independently pick out my own clothes. I sure miss that thing!
Anyone use the new Pen Friend, I think it is called the 3.
I would appreciate any information from users about how they like it or what doesn’t work. It says it takes 3 to 6 weeks to come and you order from Maxi Aids. Any other sellers of this product? Either the price has gone up a lot or I surely don’t remember the cost being so high. Sounds like it comes from the UK.
This is one item I have gotten much use out of. It makes me mad that I heard you can’t use the labels with the new one.
Help me make up my mind whether to order another Pen Friend. Thanks much. Marilyn

Yes I have describe images on for face book, it still will not read the alt-text like it does off the pc. On the iPhone it saids maybe an image of 2 people on the pc, it saids how many people and the name of one of those people, he is the teacher. So why is it different between the devices for the exact same post. Is facebook breaking the alt-text. I thought I would ask if someone knows before I give face book accessibility a shout. I don’t know the procedure in Windows 10. But if you open default
programs in the start menu search results, then tab around, you are in a part of
control panel in Windows 7, you will find a link that says something like set
default programs. Follow it and see what is there. I found the link
but I didn’t go further. Ask if you have questions or problems.

It is not necessary to go through all these steps to get to default apps. Just type "default" into the Windows 10 search box, select default apps, and tab through the list of browsers until you land on Google Chrome and select it to make it your default browser.

Re: personal settings in Windows10

Its for Windows 10 but if you open the start menu, you are in the start
menus search. Type default and you will be on default programs as the
first result without moving through the list. Read current line if you
don’t hear where you are. Press enter. I don’t know if the procedure
is the same in Windows 7 to set a default program but it is important to know
how to use the start menu search. You can often find something more
quickly than opening this, then opening something else, and perhaps going
through a number of steps to find something. If you don’t know the exact
phrase Windows calls what you want to do, type what you want to do. For
example, if you want to uninstall a program, if you search for uninstall
program, you will find the uninstall utility.
If you want to find the downloades folder, type downloads.
