Re: [Tec Talk] how do I put bard on my desktop?

Jim Rawls

Abby, thanks for your info. I found a way to put apps on the desk top. So here’s how.

First go to your program that you want to put on your desk top, for example, bard. Now copy that to your clip board. Now go to your desk top and something will show up. It doesn’t matter what it is.

Now, hit control space. Now, nothing is selected. Now, paste the thing you have clipped to your clip board and hit enter.

Now, the next time you bring up your desk top, your new program will be there.

Jim

Hello, Jim, it's been years since I downloaded BARD Express on my PC. So, I don't remember exactly how I did it. But I'm pretty sure I downloaded it from the BARD website, and the process was pretty straightforward. So, I suggest you go there, log in, and see what you can find. Good luck.

Go to settings, focus
Then to do not disturb
at the bottom of the screen, there's this button call add schedule or automation go in there and you should find what you are after if you did set up something and you can change it or disable it.

Hi Troy,

make sure your main window is open. The hotkey for this is alt + W. If for some reason that does not work, then use the menu system with alt + f followed by B and then arrow down to the main window item and press enter if it is unchecked.

Winamp is the same as it has been for decades.  Be careful not to issue commands you don’t intend to.  Winamp has a lot of commands that do things and many of them are single letter key presses.  And be careful not to issue combination commands you don’t intend to.  For example, the command to toggle opened and closed the Winamp equalizer is alt g.

If you inadvertently open a window you don’t intend to open, if you are in the window, control f4 will close it.  If you want to see how many windows are opened and close those you don’t want opened, control tab repeatedly and use control f4 to close windows you don’t want opened.

If you want to know what Winamp window you are in, reading the title bar will tell you.  When you are in the main Window, you won’t hear a window named but,for example, if you are in the equalizer window, the title bar will say Winamp equalizer.

Press control tab until you hear what you want. Winamp is getting very

Re: a winamp question

You evidently issued a command that opened the equalizer and then another command that placed you in it.  Open Winamp.  Use the command control f4, not alt f4, to close the equalizer window that you are in.  You should now be back in the main window where you want to be.

Re: Important information for Google Chrome users

That doesn’t mean you won’t have the problem.  The Software informer doesn’t run whenever you run Chrome and I believe that after it completes, it doesn’t run for another month.  Also, it appears, from one article I read, that this problem doesn’t affect all Chrome users.  My reason for discussing the matter is to let people know that if they do have such a problem, knowing about this problem may allow them to solve it.

If it was causing a problem it would.  the purpose of the utility is to look for conflicts between Chrome and other things on the machine.  My impression is that it doesn’t cause problems for everyone.

Re: Important information for Google Chrome users

Well, it's by design of the chrome itself.
everytime you open a page, there's different, addons or extension which is send to another chrome process. It depends how the chrome sees them, not all but it will.
If that extension or addons on the page is malicious  or crashes, it will not bring down the whole browser.

That's also one of the reasons  why you see a lot of chrome.exe on your task processor
and also, it also depends  if you set chrome to run at the background  to speed up loading of pages and opening of chrome itself.

a lot of background processors are just there and the reason why, it makes your computer experience much better.

If your browsing experience is slow after a while, then it's either  you close chrome and let it clear all those files and start all over again. no software is going to run forever on  your ram.

outline view with braille sense Polaris

Hi,

I’m unsure of how many folks here use the braille sense Polaris, but can, when in word, can we put word in outline view?

I looked under the file menu, under styles, and there was no mentioning of outline view. I then looked under presentation layout, nothing.

Thank you

Re: Admin: Re: [TechTalk] Tech News, Audible and Play Books Accessibility, Windows 11 Accessibility, and More

I’ve seen contradictory opinions.  One statement I’ve seen in more than one place, it may or may not be correct, is that it is legal to remove DRM strictly for ;personal use but distributing tools for doing so is not legal.  Therefore, It may be legal to do so, but providing utilities or information about such utilities may not be.

While I await further information, I will remove the original post from the archives.  If I receive good legal information that such discussion is legal, I will restore the original message.

A possible correction:
I’ve started looking into the question and it may be legal to remove DRM purely for personal use, such as converting files to other formats.  Other uses is illegal.  Therefore, I am suspending my objection to this information being presented on the list.  Others who know the law may wish to comment.  I will continue looking into the question.

the utilities discussed are not legal.  I haven’t looked at the site except to look at the title bar which is clearly discussing illegal use.  Here is what the title bar says on the page:
eBook DRM Removal, Remove DRM from ePUB PDF AZW etc

Discussing and promoting illegal software isn’t allowed on the list.  This is for legal protection of the list.  Lists can be shut down for such activity.

To make Audible Books accessible, for $25 you can purchase a utility that converts the AAX Audible files into MP3.

Go to www.epubor.com to check it out.

They also have another utility that will convert Kindle books into other formats more accessible.  Think it costs around $50.

Both utilities are a bit Funky when it comes to Accessiblity.  It can be done with a screen reader, and nce you know the steps, it is fine.  But, learning those steps took me a while.
