No,you have to use NVDA or narrator. I gave up using jaws with the windows mail app. Better yet switch to thunderbird if you can. Yes some of the key board strokes are different but, you will not have that annoying issue with the windows 10 mail app.  Cheers Heather

ScripTalk Webinar

[I received the following message from another list about a webinar this coming Saturday, October 16,  to demonstrate the ScripTalk talking prescription
medication label system, and thought it would be of interest to members of the Tech Talk list:

[
Hi Federation Family & Friends!

ScripTalk!

At Septembers Tec training, we had a discussion on how to distinguish your different medications. We thought we would set up a webinar that would assist
individuals on a way to do this!

On Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 10:00AM eastern. The Computer Science & Technology Division will have a representative from En-Vision America  to tell
us all about ScripTalk!

ScripTalk Talking Labels

If you or a loved one has trouble reading prescription medication labels then ScripTalk is the solution for you. This is a FREE, easy-to-use service available
at thousands of pharmacies throughout the United States and Canada that will read all your medication information out loud.

In the United States alone, the Food and Drug Administration estimates that about 1.3 million people are injured by medication errors each year.  For those
who can’t see to read their medication labels, talking prescription labels can be crucial to ensuring medication safety and adherence.

No ScripTalk users reported experiencing a medication error related to mixing up medications or taking the wrong medication/dosage since using ScripTalk.

HOW IT WORKS

A pharmacist programs a small electronic label with all your prescription information, including drug name, dosage, instructions, warnings, pharmacy information,
doctor name, prescription number, date and more. The tag relies on RFID and text-to-speech technology.

The pharmacist places the tag on your prescription medication and you can use a free mobile ScripTalk App to hear all the information read out loud. Simply
download the App from the App Store or Google Play, click the “scan” button and hold the bottle up to either the front of the screen (iPhones) or back
of the phone case near the camera (Androids).

Alternatively, the patient can use a ScripTalk Station, which is about the size of an old, portable CD player or phone message machine. Simply place the
pill bottle on the machine and press the “Read” button. The two triangle buttons on either side of the oval read button can be used to jump forward or
back through the prescription information. There is small wheel on the right side of the machine which can be moved to turn the machine on and turn up
the volume.

Hi Fanus,

I had this happen with a book purchased on Amazon Kindle and I called
the Amazon Disability line at 888-283-1678. They took care of it for me.

You can check out Archives.org and enroll in their print disabled access
program. They can find a book that is inaccessible and many times
convert it into a form that is readable. If you qualify as print
disabled--similar to the NLS program in the USA and the CNIB in Canada,
you can gain access to proprietary books that archive.org has access to.

Just a note about the option to set the basic view as the default

view.  I did find out how to make that option pop up, but when pressed

it didn't make the basic view the default view, which makes me think

that the option has been phased out. To try this yourself you need to

go back and forth a few times between options.

Press the button to go into basic view.

Press the button to go to standard view.

Press the button to go into basic view and now the option to make the

basic view your default view appears on the page.

Also, If your in G-Mail in standard view and then paste this link into

the URL location textbox, the page will refresh into the basic view. I

saved this to my bookmarks and a notepad.

The writing is on the wall and the basic view may not be around for

the new layout.

Re: google standard view, I hate it!

From the error message displayed earlier, the problem appeared to be temporary.  I don't think people need worry about the simple view being eliminated.  The make default link hasn't worked for awhile but the simple view is still available.  Also, on the standard view web page, it says the simple HTML view is for those with slow connections.  Given all the people who use GMail worldwide and all the different ways they connect, I don't think there is a reason to worry about the service.

Re: google standard view, I hate it!

So I'm new to the list and don't know how much context I'm missing without making more effort to find out than I want to make. But I'm ok with Google's standard gmail view. Turn your virtual cursor off, for NVDA you pretty much just hit caps lock+space or insert+space and for JAWS you generally do best just to use insert or caps lock and the z key. now treat gmail like it's a standard desktop app by arrowing and tabbing. The only thing I'm not sure how to get to work more nicely is when I press enter to open a message. I'd have to turn the virtual curser back on with insert or caps lock +z, read it and then either use escape or ctrl+w to close it if I remember rightly. There are many keystrokes that will work if the virtual cursor is off to help you bounce around, like if I remember correctl g then i or was it g then n, will go to the inbox. You can press x on each message that you want to select. So select a bunch and then press # the number sigh (shift+3) to delete them all at once. Type a question mark and then  turn the virtual cursor back on to read a list of many keyboard shortcuts.

Asus generally seems to be good with their on board audio. That vivobook they mentioned is probably amazing in terms of the sound, if it is anything like the vivobook I had for a few days. I also had a Zenbook pt431fl and it had incredible sound, for a few days. Both of these were returned due to the fact that the keyboard used part of the function row for home, end, page up and page down.

As far as finding a laptop with good base in its audio speakers, that’s not gonna be easy.
However you’re probably looking at more of a gaming  rig or desktop replacement laptop if you want something with better sound.
Now don’t get me wrong, they do have DSP affects on laptops and things but other than n Mac, I’ve not seen things that talk about great base on any laptop.

Latest ports, camera, good microphone, good base audio speakers. So do I go with a assuss, dyno book, which is toshiba’s new range in Australia, hp, Lenovo, or dell, and they did have a bad reputation a few years back. Are they better now. Looking for expert advice. And need a laptop with a physical num pad, some laptops like the zen book dual was looking at, only a touch screen number pad, soany ideas or thoughts, and in Australia. So any one from Australia on this list.

Thanks.. A 15.6 inch
