Hi don,

You can go to the micro soft store to purchase all things office.

The cheapest m s office  is the Home and Student edition.

I think  this is about $110 u s.

Be ware,  the home and student does not have outlook.

I think the version with outlook may be more like $150  u s.

I would like to know where to go to purchase a legitimate copy of Office and approximately its likely cost. I realize that Office 365 is the lowest price, however it requires an annual subscription, and I hope to make a one-time purchase.

Thanks for suggestions.

Madison and all

There’s no harm in restarting the computerbut I don’t think it will help.  If you aren’t logged in, no matter what sounds you hear, you aren’t receiving mail.  Its like logging into anything else but you are using an e-mail program, not a browser.  But why you didn’t get some sort of error message after a minute or two is something I don’t know.  You said someone gave you instructions.  The person may be right or wrong.  One of the first things to do is to check the instructions.  Microsoft must provide information about how to set up an IMAP account using, I believe you are using, Outlook.com.   You can see if the instructions you have are correct.  There may be some problem, considering the problem you are having.

I found this site by searching for something like set up IMAP account Outlook.com
You may want to find other sites with other information for some reason.  But the accuracy of the instructions is the first thing to check.  Gene

Hi all,
An aquaintance has been helping me with my Outlook.com account issues and he suggested that I remove my Outlook.com account and then re-install it manually so that I can make it an IMAP account. Now he gave me steps and so I've been working on this today and I have a couple of questions mostly because I've never done this before. I'm hearing the ding sound indicating that I'm receiving new emails and even though the account shows up in the list of accounts within Outlook when I go and check there aren't any new messages (or any old messages either) in my inbox, any idea why this could be happening and what I can do to fix it? Also, any idea how long this account set-up is supposed to take? It's been over an hour now and every time I go and check the mail set-up dialog it just keeps saying that log-on to the IMAP server is in progress, so I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong or if I did something wrong or what... Using latest versions of Jaws and Windows 10, really hope someone can help me!! Thanks

audio described tv

Marvin Hunkin

Hi. What about netflixs, the windows app and the site is very accessible. What about amazon prime. Also you could try a site called audiovault.net where you cans earch for tv shows and movies. So what is does it strips out all the video, and just has the audio described track. Like Monday in Australia, I listened to a quiet place with audio description. I could follow the movie with that. And today going to listen to a quiet place part 2 and then google the plot.

So got a lot of audio described movies and tv shows., like when netflixs pulled star trek  and put it on paramount plus here in Australia.

Re: audio described tv shows?

Brent Harding

I do have Spectrum here, as the complex I live in does provide the standard package, and then I just upgraded when I moved in to have Internet with them. I usually use it on my Roku TV, which they recommended as the best solution to get for doing this, once analog went away back a few years ago now. At first when I checked at the start of the new TV season, I just thought Fox stopped describing those shows I like, and started doing other stuff, but then I realized that testing the SAP during the football games, there is no Spanish any more either. The Spanish part means nothing for me, except it indicates there is a possible issue somewhere by not being there, but it may not be on every game either.

Hulu is supposed to have a bunch, but even though they categorize shows like 911, 911 Lonestar, and the Resident to be in the audio description category, that feature isn’t there on those shows as far as I have found. I wish I could get those with the description back, as even on TV here, they were last year until the time when the local Fox affiliate appears to have removed all SAP including even the Spanish on the football I don’t care about, but sometimes use to test that it was still there when it was.

Hallmark channel has it described marginally. Hallmark has even worse description than CBS; I did not know audio description could get that bad. The describers do not use pronouns or complete sentences; Maybe they are out sourcing to third world non English speaking people.  The hallmark movie channel also describes all their movies produced in 2021; with the same non English speaking describers.I believe the golden girls are on from 9 to 11 pm CST. So while everything is closed captioned for the deaf, we are stuck listening to crap for the audio description. Here is a link, think there might be a better link out there:

yes, select your device, then go to properties, and the second tab in there should be "listen".

check the box that should say, "listen to this device", then hit the "apply" button. you should now hear your mic if you have one, and it is selected. when you have finished, just uncheck the box, then hit the "apply" button again.

But you have to have the source selected as the active one.

As I recall, you move to the source in the list, open the context menu, and make that source the default.  Then, if you want to change it later, you make a different source the default.

Subject: [TechTalk] don't know how to find out if my windows 7 PC has a built-in microphone

I haven't needed to know this info, but I'm now trying to see if I have a microphone built in on my windows 7 PC. When I go into hardware and wound, and then manage audio devices, and then go to recording tab it shows as on option. At first it said microphone not plugged in; but when I checked all the properties page settings and looked at it again, it didn't say not plugged in. I don't see anywhere where I can do a microphone test like I can do a speaker test. Is there another way to see if I have one, or to somehow find a place to test it if I do seem to have one?
