Sharon Hooley

Hi,

Whaff's going on between Bookshare and Voice Dream Reader? When I downloaded new books yesterday and tried to play some of them, it just says, like, loading, in progress...

Thanks for any input,

Re: issue with Microsoft office365 and Microsoft word

Here is something you may or may not want to try.  Out of curiosity, it may or may not be useful, what happens if you write text at the top of the document, then use the pass next key through command and down arrow.  NVdA+f2.  What happens if you do this a number of times, then use read current line to see where you are.  Does taking NVDA out of the action stop the behavior?  While issuing this command before every down arrow in such a case is cumbersome, it may be useful.  I don't know if doing so is less work than what you did to work around the problem.

What happens if, after it jumps for the first time, you go back up to the top and try to down arrow again.  At this point, we don’t know if this is something that happens the first time you try to move or in general after you add text at the top.

We don’t know if this happens to sighted people or just blind users.  Perhaps someone can ask a sighted person using your version of the program.

Subject: [TechTalk] issue with Microsoft office365 and Microsoft word

Hi

I am trying to edit a document in microssoft word, whenever I go to the top of the document and type something it is put at the top but then when I hit arrow keys like down arrow it puts me all the way at the bottom. The cursor is jumping around in the latest word with both jaws and NVDA. Is this a Microsoft word bug? So to edit the document, I ended up having to finnish editing it using google docs then re-download it to the Microsoft word format.

Focus Blu repair

Teresa Arroyo Llosa

Hello all,

Please I need your help.

I sent my Focus Blu Braille display to Optolec, the Freedom Scientific branch in Quebec, Canada, and they gave me the bad news that 39 cells of the 44, are not working; repairing the devise would cost more than buy a new one, which would be 2000 something.

So, I would like to know for those of you who have a focus blu, how long have you had it, and if you have sent it to repair how muc

Re: rearranging folders in Thunderbird

Gene

You can get the add-on here.

The description talks about typing the first few letters of a folder.  That is something you might wantt to do if you have folders that begin with the same letter or two.  If a folder begins with one letter and no other folders do, typing that letter will move you to that folder.  If two folders begin with the same first letter, typing the first two lettersw will take you to the folder that begins with those two letters, etc.

Is the add on for moving folders manually accessible and does it work well?

I reread your message.  You talk about rearranging folders.  I don’t know what you want to do.  I had originally thought you wanted to rearrange headers such as having the from line spoken before the subject line but you asked about rearranging folders.  So I don’t know if what I said applies to what you want to do.  Please give an example.

Next message behavior in Thunderbird

Marie <magpie.mn@...>

I have set TB to open and read the next message automatically when deleting the current message. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. This seems to be the same whether using Jaws or NVDA.

Is there a setting I am overlooking, or is this just a normal bug in the software?
Thanks, Marie

Re: screen definition in pixels

Quentin Christensen

Interesting questions!

In short:
1) Yes they vary as you say - the higher definition your screen, the smaller each pixel and the more crammed into the same space.  This makes for a smoother looking image for those with the sight to see such things the closer in they look.  Here's an article with a bit more info: https://www.techopedia.com/definition/24012/pixel

2, 3, 4) Good questions and TBH not something I'd looked much into, but here's another article I found on it: https://www.forbes.com/sites/willyshih/2018/05/15/how-did-they-make-my-big-screen-tv/?sh=1736909b1003

Kind regards

Quentin.

me wonder:

1.  How big is a pixel?  There must be different sizes, as they can put
the same number on a 14-inch screen as onn a 49-inch screen.

2.  How are those pixels fastened in there?  Some special kind of glue
that they hope won't let loose, I suppose?

3.  How tiny is the tool (hence the hands) that install all those
pixels?  Mighty small fingers and (probably) treezers?

4.  What material is a pixel made of?  Is it just a glob of Mystery
Magic Material (MMM from the Three M company) encapsulated in a clear
plastic?  That would be small.

Inquiring minds, ya know.

Ideas?

I should clarify that the large group I mentioned is not an announcement  only list.  That comment doesn't apply.  I made it because I didn't think announcement lists required payment for more than 100 members and they may.

I had thought you could have unlimited membership in an announcement only list.  Now, I don't know.  It may require payment to have more than 100 members.  I couldn't tell from the information I looked at.

Re: Mailchimp

Greg Daniel

Hi Melissa,

I know that you have gotten feedback about announcements-only lists. My parish church uses flocknote.com, which you can access on the web. Our pastor uses flocknote to communicate with parishioners, and the website is all about communicating in whatever form with congregations. While I personally don't like the formatting of Flocknote, I am by no means an expert on its use, and maybe other blind users have had more success. I personally email over 2,300 newsletters to my high school alumni and staff by using a spreadsheet, selecting 50 email addresses at a time, pasting them into the BCC field of the newsletter, and sending them out. I can send out 500 email messages via Gmail per day without the risk of being tossed into Gmail email jail.

If you would like more information or have questions, you can email me off-list.

Greg Daniel

Re: NVDA

Quentin Christensen

HI Roger,

Not sure if you resolved this, but it was an issue we discovered late last year and essentially had to do with the way our security provider updated our security certificate - it wasn't automatically propogated to all machines.  We included a fix to prevent this in future in NVDA 2021.3, but for those users affected, the easiest solution is to download the latest version and install it manually from: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2021-3-1/

Kind regards

Quentin.
