LOL, I think I remember that, having been on the NVDA list for some time
now. Being an Eloquence fan, I definitely didn't participate in the bashing.
I think it's a bit of a full circle now that Code Factory, I think it is,
now offers a SAPI version of Eloquence for legal sale, so it's no longer a
banned word on that list.

How about a smoother variant then, Joseph? As I stated earlier, I use
the Denis variant which is much smoother and easier to listen to than
that horrible default voice. Years ago I brought this up on the nVDA
list and was promptly accused of wanting Eloquence to be used despite
the fact that all I suggested was to use a different variant than the
default one. Laz

Yes, that heavily accented male e-speak voice is probably the worst
computer
speech I have ever heard.

I am sure, as Gene says, this is enough to turn a lot of people away from
an
excellen no/low priced screen reader.

Hi Joseph Lee, you wizard , you. Maybe there is another voice that could

One of the things that turns off a lot of people to NVDA is E-Speak. In
my
opinion, something should come up in the instalation sequence asking
people
if they want to choose another voice and giving them the selection of
voices
that are unrestricted on the computer. A lot of people who don't know
much
about screen-readers simply assume that it sounds the way it sounds and
don't use it once they hear the installation voice.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your hearing when it comes to
ESpeak. It makes me want to grit my teeth trying to understand it and to
tolerate the very sound of it. I love Australian accents but this is
terrible. I will probably spend more time trying to use and learn NVDA
now
that the voice is so much more pleasant.

Good, I like NVDa; I just can't stand that ESpeak. It's too robotic and
the
accent is too sharp. I don't have a problem with real people with
Australian
accents; I understand them just fine. Somehow, those voices are just too
something. I've tried running them real slow and still can't get used to
them. Maybe it's my hearing, or, perhaps I just need to try longer.

People weren't bickering about who can help the best. One member
of the list insulted other list members repeatedly. If the list
had been properly moderated, the insulting conduct would have been
stopped immediately. As one member who was repeatedly insulted
and talked down

to by the member, I resent your characterization. I did not
bicker and

whine. If someone publicly talks down to me on a list or states
that I

am providing dangerous solutions to problems when they are not,I
am going to publicly defend myself and others have the right to do
so as well.
And it's not just a question of people defending themselves. New
members come to lists all the time. If someone inaccurately
disparages another

members advice, indicating that is dangerous or inadequate when it
is not, then the person who is disparaged should have the right to
defend

their answers so that new list members won't form erroneous
opinions about who is giving good advice.

This list, which will be properly moderated, should not have any
such problems.

the

Mac. One thru a virtual windows and the other is thru boot camp .....
Which boot camp is fairly like just installing windows like on any
hard

drive. I think I would prefer boot camp to a virtual windows but
it is a choice. Now if you not going to use this thing as your
primary machine

you might not want to get the latest and greatest . You might
want

to if thinking of a lap top go with the Mac book air the13 inch or
the
11
inch. They also have brought back the mac book as well so that
might be

worth looking at. But all this being said this late in the year I

First, greetings to you all here in the new list and a lot of

Now my thoughts:
I'm using for fourteen years or so the system operation of Microsoft.
Now, I use Win 7 pro and think to upgrade it - when Jaws 17 is
out, soon.
I've two laptops, one is 8 years and the other one is five years old.
I think to start now using the laptop of Apple and as I do
understand -

I'mtalking about MACBOOK PRO.
I really wish to get your thoughts, your experience with that machine.
which one do I have to purchase and any other helpful information.
I've read about it but really don't have any experience and the
world and the way Apple acts with its systems.
Again, I do understand that it is a very general question but any
information, any experience will be greatly appreciated.
I'm totally blind and use Braille Display and it's a very
important point for me.
I also know that I can install the system of Microsoft on these
machine

of Apple and wish to know how really this works.
thanks for any output.

Now my thoughts:

I’m using for fourteen years or so the system operation of Microsoft.

Now, I use Win 7 pro and think to upgrade it – when Jaws 17 is out, soon.

I’ve two laptops, one is 8 years and the other one is five years old.

I think to start now using the laptop of Apple and as I do understand – I’m talking about MACBOOK PRO.

I really wish to get your thoughts, your experience with that machine.

which one do I have to purchase and any other helpful information.

I’ve read about it but really don’t have any experience and the world and the way Apple acts with its systems.

Again, I do understand that it is a very general question but any information, any experience will be greatly appreciated.

I’m totally blind and use Braille Display and it’s a very important point for me.

I also know that I can install the system of Microsoft on these machine of Apple and wish to know how really this works.

thanks for any output.

Hi, merge  means come together. An example is you merge  into traffic on to the expressway. So the same as folders it means the two folders will come together as one! See below for link on definition of merge ..

I am going to clear my laptop so Windows 8 can be put in, and I will back everything on to my external drive.  Because I try to keep up with backing up media and documents when I add or modify any info on the laptop.  But I am confused about something and need input.  If I am copying and the external already has some of the files or folders it asks if I want to copy and replace or copy and keep both copies, etc.  I totally get that and if there could end up being duplicates I either copy and replace or skip any folders or files that are already on the external.  But I also got the question sometimes, do you still want to merge this folder? and I don't understand what merging would do.  I am puzzled because once I copied my documents folder to another place and I was asked if I wanted to keep files with the same name and I said no.  But then it made reference to a particular folder and said do you want to merge this folder.  I said yes, but when I looked at the copied folder it didn't contain the new data I had added from the laptop.  So if I update files and copy to a folder where these files are located, if I merge the files will it not save new info on the hard drive?  Good example:  keeping track of a checkbook.  You modify that info all the time, and when I copied the updated version into the documents folder on the external and I said yes to the merge, the external didn't save my new info; it just kept the outdated data that was in the file but didn't update to the file I had on the laptop that I was copying.  So how does one make sure, when moving files and folders, that all the info you want saved will be saved for you?  I know this sounds complicated but I hope I explained it right.

People weren't bickering about who can help the best.  One member of the list insulted other list members repeatedly.  If the list had been properly moderated, the insulting conduct would have been stopped immediately.  As one member who was repeatedly insulted and talked down to by the member, I resent your characterization.  I did not bicker and whine.  If someone publicly talks down to me on a list or states that I am providing dangerous solutions to problems when they are not,I am going to publicly defend myself and others have the right to do so as well.  And it's not just a question of people defending themselves.  New members come to lists all the time.  If someone inaccurately disparages another members advice, indicating that is dangerous or inadequate when it is not, then the person who is disparaged should have the right to defend their answers so that new list members won't form erroneous opinions about who is giving good advice.

This list, which will be properly moderated, should not have any such problems.

One of the things that turns off a lot of people to NVDA is E-Speak.
In my opinion, something should come up in the instalation sequence
asking people if they want to choose another voice and giving them the
selection of voices that are unrestricted on the computer. A lot of
people who don't know much about screen-readers simply assume that it
sounds the way it sounds and don't use it once they hear the
installation voice.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your hearing when it comes
to ESpeak. It makes me want to grit my teeth trying to understand it
and to tolerate the very sound of it. I love Australian accents but
this is terrible. I will probably spend more time trying to use and
learn NVDA now that the voice is so much more pleasant.

Good, I like NVDa; I just can't stand that ESpeak. It's too robotic
and the accent is too sharp. I don't have a problem with real people
with Australian accents; I understand them just fine. Somehow, those
voices are just too something. I've tried running them real slow and
still can't get used to them. Maybe it's my hearing, or, perhaps I
just need to try longer.

Glad I could help. Be sure to run the Microsoft runtime file first
and then the zira-pro. I did this while NVDA was running and then
went into the Preferences setting then synthesizers and found the
voice. It is responsive and understandable.

Re: any opinions on windows 10

Gene

If you explain what you have done to try to set it up and what happened, you would be more likely to get good help.  Do you have a Microsoft account?  I don't have one and I don't have Windows 10.  My understanding is that Cortana will not function unless you have a Microsoft account.

Hi,
Follow these steps (and sorry for this late response):
1. From Start menu, search for "Cortana" (without quotes). Select Cortana
and Search settings.
2. Press TAB to go to Next button.
3. Cortana will then ask you if you would like it to access information such
as current location. If you would like to proceed, select I agree.
4. Next, Cortana will ask if you'd like to enable speech, typing and inking.
If you'd like to continue, say Yes.
5. Next, Cortana will ask what name would you like to be called. Type
something, or if you don't want to set this up, select Skip. On the next
screen, select Close.
To fully unlock Cortana, you need to sign into Microsoft Account and use a
microphone (text search will work too).
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi, well, there is several ways you can do this install windows on the Mac. One thru a virtual windows and the other is thru boot camp . Which boot camp is fairly like just installing windows like on any hard drive. I think I would prefer boot camp to a virtual windows but it is a choice. Now if you not going to use this thing as your primary machine you might not want to get the latest and greatest . You might want to if thinking of a lap top go with the Mac book air the13 inch or the 11 inch. They also have brought back the mac book as well so that might be worth looking at. But all this being said this late in the year I think I would wait for the new ones to come out. JST !

Dear all,

First, greetings to you all here in the new list and a lot of thanks to Carlos, who helps all of us everywhere.
Now my thoughts:
I’m using for fourteen years or so the system operation of Microsoft.
Now, I use Win 7 pro and think to upgrade it – when Jaws 17 is out, soon.
I’ve two laptops, one is 8 years and the other one is five years old.
I think to start now using the laptop of Apple and as I do understand – I’mtalking about MACBOOK PRO.
