Hi,
Oh happy day of great rejoicing she speaks! After I thought I did the reset thing it was actually frightening I couldn’t get any of the buttons to work so only way out was battery removal. then a light dawned.  Hmm perhaps these series of numbered presses happen after I press menu button.  I.E. press menu button to invoke it then press 6 more times (as opposed to pressing it merely a series of 6 times) so I tried it and somehow now she’s speaking and speech is working and alerts report as being off.
So I bless you for your patience with me and rejoice that it’s now working.
I appreciate you and hope to see you on list lots more.  Thanks ever so much for your willingness to help.
Have an epic weekend full of all good things.
Robin

hi:
yes, you did buy the right radio.

one more thing.
the radio has to be on.
I know it works because I made sure it worked on mine before I emailed you.

let's try this.
let's return the radio to factory defaults.

To reset to factory defaults which turns on voice and alerts and resets radio to US tuning,
menu 8 times, scan up and enter.

let me know if this works.

I won't give up, yet.

thanks bunches again. sorry this is turning into such a ridiculous caper.

P.S.
Perhaps you’ll enjoy this giggle with me. When I turned on the radio and pulled in my first HD station so help me the first ad I heard was for Sparc HD radios.  I laughed out loud. What are the odds of all the ads to hear that’s the one I got first.

    hi:
just to make sure you're pressing the right buttons.
all the buttons we are talking about are in the same group of buttons just to the right of the speaker grille.
the menu button is at the top.
the seek down and up buttons are the left and right buttons in this same group.
the enter button is at the bottom of this group.
so, tap the top button, (the menu button), six times, then, the seek up button, (the right button in this group), once, then, the enter button, (the bottom button in this group), once.

hope this helps.
we'll get this working for you.

take care.

Hi,
Oh dear I wish that’d been the solution.  Either something’s radically wrong or I’m just inept.  I’ve followed your instructions to the letter and sadly still no speech.  I can’t imagine what the problem could be. I even tried capturing the display with KNFB reader to no avail (sad face).
but I do appreciate  your trying to help little me. It really meant a lot (smile).

hi robin:
it would help if I actually checked what I've written and made sure I had it right.
I was going from memory which, of course, can be a bad thing.
so, let's try this again.
tap the menu button 6 times.
then, tap the seek up button, and then tap the enter button.
I told you wrong in previous response.
no wonder you couldn't get any voice.
I actually gave you the turning-off voice inso.
so, once again:

tap menu 6 times.
then, tap the seek up button.
then, tap the enter button.

the voice will not speak until you press a button after these instructions.
also, you should turn off the alerts.

we can talk about that after you get the voice going.
you can tell if the alerts are on because when you turn the radio on or off, you will hear either alerts on or alerts off.
oh, by the way, you must long press the power on/off button to turn it on or off.
if the radio is on, a short press on the power button will switch between am and fm.
hope this helps.

sorry for the wrong info.

Not entirely so if you could help with that I’d be most grateful.  I see two elongated buttons, two wee tiny buttons between them and two circle configurations of buttons on either side of them but don’t know what all do just yet.
Thanks bunches for your help. I know prior models of this type cane with a lovely cd to help with familiarizing one with the unit but not so with this one.

Re: Question about the SPARC HD Radio SHD-TX2

    hi:
no. once you hit enter it automatically takes you out of the menu.
you can now go about tuning and adding presets to your heart's content.
the radio has 20 presets on am and 20 presets on fm.
the neat thing is the radio can also save any hd 2, 3, and even 4, (if there are any) on fm, also.
enjoy!!

let me know if you want to turn off the alerts.
they are of no use to us since they do not talk and the radio really eats up batteries with the alerts on.

    hi:
just to make sure you're pressing the right buttons.
all the buttons we are talking about are in the same group of buttons just to the right of the speaker grille.
the menu button is at the top.
the seek down and up buttons are the left and right buttons in this same group.
the enter button is at the bottom of this group.
so, tap the top button, (the menu button), six times, then, the seek up button, (the right button in this group), once, then, the enter button, (the bottom button in this group), once.

hope this helps.
we'll get this working for you.

take care.

but I do appreciate  your trying to help little me.

Hi, I did it on an external drive. I don't see no real reason to do
this with my computer as it has a power on password and a admin bios
password as well as my logon screen password. So for the most part I
think it is safe . I might get something so I can password lock and
encrypt individual files on my computer . But I more concern with my
external USB HD .

Well, I just used bit locker for the first time on my Seagate Free
Agent Drive. It work great! It was fairly easy to do. Now this drive
is a 500 gB drive so it took a long time to encrypt it but it did it
and now my stuff is encrypted and password protected on my external
USB drive.

So I highly recommend it for those that have it to use. I think
you have to have windows professional and above to have this feature
in windows. I have W7 64 bit Ultimate edition of windows and then W10
pro which I think has it also.

Not usually on a shower something like that would need a filter put into the cold water line going to the shower head.

Re: bathroom sink filters

Ok, they make them that can go under the sink and hook to the water line and
they also make them that will screw on like you are talking about. If your
bathroom faucet has a screw on which more than likely it does with a little
screen filter in it then you can adapt the one for the kitchen faucet to fit
it. I would go to Lowes or Home Depo or your local hardware store and talk
to them about what you are looking for.
If you know of a good handy man that you can get to look at it and get you
what you need and install it that might be better . Especially if you are
not a very good handy man or woman!
Like me I have been in the building maintance for 40 years! What they call a
Jack of all trades and master of none!
Of course I am retired now.

Sure. A bathroom faucet isn't much different than a kitchen sink. There are
screw on filter systems which come with various sizes of faucet heads. Look
at PUR Water Filters; Walmart carries them and you can get one for about
forty dollars.

Hi Carlos,

I see that in my Windows 8.1 premium edition, there is a Bit Locker. I never played with it at all. How accessible is it?

It is part of Windows 7 if you have the Ultimate edition. Otherwise no.

Hi, I did it on an external drive. I don't see no real reason to do this with my computer as it has a power on password and a admin bios password as well as my logon screen password. So for the most part I think it is safe . I might get something so I can password lock and encrypt individual files on my computer . But I more concern with my external USB HD .

When you say you encrypted the whole drive, I was confused if you meant an external or internal. If internal, how did the login screen work with your screen reader? Did the drive slow down noticeably?

Well, I just used bit locker for the first time on my Seagate Free
Agent Drive. It work great! It was fairly easy to do. Now this drive
is a 500 gB drive so it took a long time to encrypt it but it did it
and now my stuff is encrypted and password protected on my external USB drive.

So I highly recommend it for those that have it to use. I think
you have to have windows professional and above to have this feature
in windows. I have W7 64 bit Ultimate edition of windows and then W10
pro which I think has it also.

Hi,
I was wondering about that.  Oh dear heaven knows what I’ve done to it now as I’ve tried it both ways in the interim and still haven’t a lovely voice talking to me. when I go through these key presses how long must they be pressed in order to take effect?
thanks once again for your help it’s truly appreciated and you did a great job with button layout description. they should hire you (smile).

Hi,
Not entirely so if you could help with that I’d be most grateful.  I see two elongated buttons, two wee tiny buttons between them and two circle configurations of buttons on either side of them but don’t know what all do just yet.
Thanks bunches for your help. I know prior models of this type cane with a lovely cd to help with familiarizing one with the unit but not so with this one.

Hi,
If anyone is currently using this model SPARC HD Radio SHD-TX2 and would be willing to help familiarize me with its buttons I’d be very grateful as it ships with no accessible instructions. Is there a way to approximate one’s way through its menus to turn on its voice guidance?
Thanks in advance.

Re: bathroom sink filters

Pamela Dominguez

I’ve only heard of the kitchen ones.  I also never heard of a filtered shower head.  Pam.

This may sound strange but, I am looking for a bathroom sink water filter!  Has anyone seen something like this?  I seem to have a lot of     chlorine in my apartment's water! I have a countertop filter for the kitchen and filtered shower head!  Now, I want to brush my teeth without smelling that weird chlorine  in the water!  Thanks, Heather

Sure. A bathroom faucet isn't much different than a kitchen sink. There are screw on filter systems which come with various sizes of faucet heads. Look at PUR Water Filters; Walmart carries them and you can get one for about forty dollars.
