Hi,
Soundds good. And just read your response. I'm actually curious what he will say. And I hope you enjoy your stay on both lists, that's exactly what I'm planning to do, too.

Hi,
It won't calm down for a while (I sent a message to that list, giving some
advice to Michael in terms of moderation).
I do plan to stay subscribed to read some new techie information and to
monitor how the list goes.
Cheers,

Hi Joseph,
LOL, Mike did neither of these things. You have been a moderator of a list
that I was on before, at the time, we didn't agree, but I can tell you, you
did do a good moderation job. Anyway, the BlindTech list went through a lot
of things. Mainly, constant moving, constant people like free tech guy,
co-owner difficulties, and now, moderator difficulties. So far, it was
strong enough to hold on. Sorry for those who know the song, where I got
the reference from. If not, I can send the lyrics off list. Should be
interesting what happens now, especially that they threw Carlos out for no
apparent reason. LOL, I'm still laughing on the reference above, Mike
always seems to just send admin notes. He never actually gave us the
possibility to speak about something off list. In fact, he's more like a
judge at this point. Although, a question. What's the plan by staying
subscribed to both lists?
PS. The BT list went calm again, since Mike sent his note a little while
ago.

Hi all,
Sorry if I'm late to the party...
A few things come to my mind as I'm reading the list archives for both
lists:
For the past few years, I was a moderator of a number of lists and have seen
ups and downs of this position. As a moderator of a number of lists now
(including two NVDA lists), I always remind myself to be kind and listen to
members, as I felt a list admin sets precedence for others to follow. In
terms of moderation philosophy, I believe in gentle, offlist diplomacy and
how offlist mannerisms matter more for the reputation of a list
administrator. I also believe that an admin should invoke his or her
privilege sparingly (I think it is better for a moderator to listen to
conversations than run the entire show), and to serve not as a judge in
disputes but a counsellor (trying to understand disagreements and let
members resolve disputes themselves offlist). Lastly, I also believe a
moderator should be willing to step down and keep his or her promise to stay
as a member, especially if the reputation of the list is in jeopardy (as it
is, we can agree that Blind Tech will face criticism because of what
happened this weekend, and this latest incident may put that list and its
reputation (and Michael's) in jeopardy).
As of now, I'm subscribed to both lists to monitor what's going on (I'm
still reading Blind Tech archives to fully understand the backstory behind
the birth of this list).
Cheers,
Joseph

:D I can certainly understand any frustrations he, or anyone else may have
had with the bt list, as I'd had a few of my own, but, he's always kept his
messages polite, as far as I can remember. I certainly wish the best for
this list, the bt list, and any others that offer help towards others who
need it, but, seeing the back and forth bs that seemed to be common for
BlindTech was beginning to get a little silly.
Certainly my thanks for this new one, and here's to it being able to give

With all due respect, Michael seems to go through one of these
phases about every few months. And this is not the first time
he
has given the list away and then taken control back within a

The fact is that his new co-list owner was rude to me in private

the defensive and was quite rude himself. And when I defended
myself and responded to her rudeness, she immediately banned me
from

I'll certainly second that. Assuming a person is comfortable with using the virtual cursor in jfw, or object navigation in NVDA for a few things, the talking PE is an absolute breeze to use for an installation.
As for levtec, which I'll assume is also based somewhat on the PE project, do to my not being able to ever get consistent and reliable information from Levi through any of our correspondence, I always found it really difficult to justify spending what he was asking for the tool then. I'm thinking I'd come closer to making a donation towards Carlos or anyone else working on a talking PE type project instead.
Just my own thoughts though, hehe.

I have yet to see Windows 7 installed with an unattended script. I
went through the AIK, and there were more questions in that thing that
I couldn't answer than that I could. XP was cake compared to the
Windows 7 AIK.

It can be done with either an unattended script or by using something like

Hi Carlos,
The thing is, the so called FreeTech guy always offered paid apps.
E.g. He said to use Outlook, yet, he used Outlook express himself. They were identical to your headers. Although, I like your joke, never the less.

Hi all,

I'm Joseph Lee (not Joseph the Free Tech), a student and a regular contributor to NonVisual Desktop Access screen reader project. First, thanks for creating another resource for talking about technology, and I'm glad to come onboard in its early days.

Second, I'm sorry to hear about what happened back at the Blind Tech list (I've been reading the list archives for this and the BT list, and there are things that happened recently that I don't understand myself). More importantly, if the list owner is the Carlos I know (from various mailing lists), please take courage (if what I've heard is true, then I can sympathize with both sides of the story and recommend things the admins over at the other side of the pond should have done; write to me offlist please).

With the intros aside: I hope to learn more about new technologies being developed and help out if I can (I'm still learing).

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi Joseph,
LOL, Mike did neither of these things. You have been a moderator of a list that I was on before, at the time, we didn't agree, but I can tell you, you did do a good moderation job. Anyway, the BlindTech list went through a lot of things. Mainly, constant moving, constant people like free tech guy, co-owner difficulties, and now, moderator difficulties. So far, it was strong enough to hold on. Sorry for those who know the song, where I got the reference from. If not, I can send the lyrics off list. Should be interesting what happens now, especially that they threw Carlos out for no apparent reason. LOL, I'm still laughing on the reference above, Mike always seems to just send admin notes. He never actually gave us the possibility to speak about something off list. In fact, he's more like a judge at this point. Although, a question. What's the plan by staying subscribed to both lists?
PS. The BT list went calm again, since Mike sent his note a little while ago.

Hi all,
Sorry if I'm late to the party...
Cheers,
Joseph

The fact is that his new co-list owner was rude to me in private

I just checked and Chrome is reasonably accessible using JAWS 14 so it will either be equally accessible or more so with JAWS 15.

I really doubt that Chrome is inaccessible with JAWS 15.  Chrome uses an interface that is somewhat different than Internet Explorer or Firefox.  For example, there is only one menu.  But as I recall, I played with Chrome using JAWS 14 and found it reasonably accessible.  Chrome has quirks and annoyances but it is mostly accessible, though not as accessible as Internet Explorer or Firefox.  But I have it on my computers because at times, when I don't get good access to a site using firefox or I may try Internet Explorer as well, but there are times when I get better access with Chrome than with either other browser..

Getting back to a more pertinent topic.  This morning, I updated to the latest version of CCleaner, version 5.9,  on my Windows 7 PC.  Using the JAWS cursor, I carefully inspected each page of the Installation wizard to make sure that there were no check boxes for also selecting Google Chrome for installation at the same time, and could not find any.  But after CCleaner was installed successfully, I discovered to my chagrin that Google Chrome had been installed, anyway, and set as my default browser.  Just out of curiosity, I took a quick look at Chrome and found it to be totally inaccessible with JAWS 15.  So I immediately proceeded to completely remove it using Revo Installer and then reset IE 11 as my default browser.  I already had Unchecky on my computer but it obviously did not prevent Chrome from being installed.  Has anyone found a foolproof way to update CCleaner without also automatically and surreptitiously installing Chrome along withit?

The only way to really be sure is by using the slim installer which is usually one or two versions behind the standard installer.

I landed on freelists. 2 months later, emissives. There, people had troubles replying, even though I did address to just use reply all, didn't help. BTW, that bug is fixed. Anyway, after that, we came back to freelists (had to resubscribe, of course) and now, we're on groups.io. When will the next move be?

The bottom line is that when he was owner of the Blind Tech list, it lost
almost half of its members because of his intolerant attitude and his
penchant for constantly changing listservs.

I think Carlos should also keep this list. After watching the way Michael
handles threads, he will start a thread and as long as people are agreeable
with him on that thread, the thread can continue, but when people start
disagreeing with him, he demands that the thread stop. I know he is the
owner, but he also does things on his lists that he does not allow others to
do, and in my opinion, that is wrong. An owner should abide by the same
rules as everyone else.

You, Carlos, or others who may have left Blindtech may want to reconsider.
Michael Capell has gotten the list back and has sent out an announcement
indicating that there will be very few rules and that rules will be greatly
relaxed. The very brief owners are no longer either owners or moderators.

Lol, I hate when I do that.?

I always post a question and then right when I send it, I figure out
my own problem. However, with it being 4 in the morning now, I have no idea
how I got there. I was just tabbing and down arrowing and poof there it was
lol.

But, I couldn't figure this out ever since getting windows 10 which
is a few weeks now.

So, since my brain isn't functioning right now, lets just forget

Hello:

I signed up here, because I think carlos is the coolest thing since
slice bread.

Anyways, apparently, I'm still having trouble accessing my c drive
an any other external drives when plugging them into my laptop running
windows 10.

My daughter says, when I tell her, for example, I'm trying to locate
my passport, which is the name of my 1tb external hd, she clicks on the
mouse and then jaws says this pc, so how can I get to this pc via the
keyboard"This pc is in the file explorer which use to show my c drive, dvd
drive etc, but it's not showing any of that.

Back then, they should have got a third admin. The only reason, as I said, why we got what we got, is the lack of moderation.

I agree with Gene and while I might personally find such things occasionally amusing, allowing that kind of behavior is really not a productive way to run a list.

You may think such things are amusing but they can damage a list and can significantly harm a list if it looses valuable contributors as well as general members who might ask good questions and learn from what others post.

Hi Christina,
First, I have never really been involved, but I do read things. I have never moderated, either. In fact, just for Gene, I actually use about:blank as my home page. Unless you tell the list that that is even possible, I would never know. So I do gain knowledge. But, when, people are treated unfair, or are bossed around for no reason, the treatment goes both ways. I liked the fact that the admins have stayed behind. But the freetech guy, the list being moved 4 times (that I know of) and giving no reason for things when you ask, I don't like. Like, Carlos being banned? What for? Then, get the list back a day later, rather than explaining themselves, just where are we? That's why I put things the way I do. Drama, that, that always entertained me. Those who were around the FreTech guy's time, will know that I was on the floor, laughing and screaming. And then I joined in, the guy never replied to me. Was pretty funny. And the traffic I produced? OK, OK, I really should take thi!
s off list. So if you would like me to go into more detail, please ask, and I'll tell you more off list.

of setting it, so that you have to approve members, rather than they
