I believe it is only fair that Laz had an opportunity to respond and tell his side of the story since his reputation was brought into question. However, now that both parties have had their say, I believe it is time to close this topic gentlemen. I don't want it to turn into a flaming session. It is not our place to judge since we weren't involved in the dispute. And for future reference Troy, the list is not an appropriate place to air such grievances about other members. Thanks for your understanding.

(Cough cough)Hmm, interesting viewpoint you have there Troy. As I
explained to you and your mother during a few hours of tech support on
the phone which you claim didn't occur, which BTW I provided to you
for absolutely free, there is a scale of ability to use touch screens
by blind or VI folks. You unfortunately didn't fall very high on that
scale. You must have been holding the phone upside down as you moved
backwards instead of forwards when swiping to the right.

The problem with giving you a refund was the fact that you had your
mother deface the phone by putting some sort of paint on the phone.
But please don't try to make it sound like you only had a couple of
days to make a decision about returning the phone or not. That just
isn't true.

I felt sorry for you because it sounded like you were only going to
get about $50 at a pawn shop and instead of leaving it at that, I
contacted you and offered you the full price of the phone as store
credit. Did I need to do that? No, not in the least. I was just trying
to help you out a bit.

After about a month you used that store credit to purchase some
Bluetooth items which you decided to turn right around and sell for a
lot less than it was worth to Hank Smith, providing him such a
fantastic deal that I just shook my head when I saw you had done that.

Some times a person can try as hard as they want but some folks go out
of their way to make themselves out to be a victimized person and then
turn around and report you as the person doing the victimizing.

Oh, well.

I give him credit in that he eventually did take the phone back and gave me

a store credit, but I wasn't interested in anything else he had at the time

so I ended up buying something I didn't want and then I turned around and
sold that. I still didn't get the entire price of the phone back though.

It supports Blu-ray data discs if that is what you mean. A video Blu-ray

might let you write a video Blu-ray disc. Although it certainly won't let
you do anything with protected commercial Blu-ray discs.

The problem with UPS, is that it had my former address in its base. The first time that happened, Richard doubled checked his computer. His was right. The package was addressed right; yet it went to the old address. So, the second time, both Richard and I were aware of the problem, so he took special pains to see that it should come to this address; yet it did not. My husband saw the package both times addressed here on Richard's paper work nbut there on the UPS thing. I don't know what it will take to ever get them straight, but we track it, and we know right where it goes. If Pablo moves, I guess, we can make a new friend the next time I have work done on my Optacon.

Are you talking about UPS or USPS ? as UPS only goes by what the shipper gives them! For example if you buy something from Walmart and have it shipped whatever shipping address you give them is what UPS has! UPS does not change your address at all. The USPS (United State Postal Service) is the only one that changes your address! So for example : if you move from
3333 Orlando, Florida to 6666 Tampa, Florida then you would put in a change of address with the USPS and they would change your mailing address. UPS does not do that !

UPS has terrible service. Twice, not once, but twice, they brought my Optacons to my old address. Fortunately, my husband and I met in that neighborhood, new right where to go, but once we had to leave word with the neighbor why we just went up there and picked up a package, and the second time, we were able to reach the current resident on the phone, and get it from him. Richard had to do all kind of things to get my current address fixed with UPS, and I've lived here for nearly seven years.

Yep, I've had packages which were completely lost in the system as well. A couple of times even when they claimed it had been delivered. I've also experienced packages simply being left out in the hall. Or claims of attempted deliveries which I know for a fact never took place. Granted, those experiences are not necessarily frequent, but frequent enough that there is definitely at least some laziness and incompetence involved if nothing else.

Absolutely not true. The USPS is so incompetent and inefficient that I often do not get updated tracking infornation until after my shipment has been delivered. Last year, they managed to lose two fairly large packages that had been shipped by Amazon which just vanished without a trace somewhere in their system, never to be seen again. In both cases, Amazon refunded the cost of the orders.

But here’s another dirty little secret about UPS, Fedex and USPS
shipping that you guys may not be aware of. If you live in an
apartment complex, these three delivery carriers will no longer
deliver large packages directly to your door, even if you have paid a
pretty penny out of your own pocket for delivery. Instead, their
drivers now usually leave packages with the super or building manager
in the basement or other central location. The problem with this new
policy is that if the super isn’t around to sign for delivery or
place the packages in a secure location, the driver will simply leave
them outside his door where anyone can walk by and steal them. I
have complained numerous times to UPS customer service about this
practice, but to no avail. Whenever I order stuff that is delivered
by UPS or Fedex or the USPS, the driver now always leaves the package
with my super. But if he is not around to sign for delivery, the
driver just leaves the package outside his door where anyone can walk
by and take it for themselves. Fortunately, I have not yet had one of
my deliveries stolen, but I am still very unhappy over this
lackadaisical attitude on the part of these delivery carriers.

I don't see how Amazon does the free shipping even at that price. I
guess the shippers give the big shippers a big discount. I sent a 13

If you not selling as much you cannot afford to cut the price of

Yikes! Imagine my horror when I visited Amazon.com this morning
to discover that they have raised their minimum order size to qualify
for free shipping from $35 to $49 for non-Prime members. This is a
whopping 40% increase, and makes it more difficult for those of us
blind consumers who live on limited incomes to now shop there. It’s
bad enough that Amazon keeps tinkering with its web site to the
detriment of screen reader users like us. But now, to add insult to
injury, they have now made it more difficult to get free shipping. A

Hi,

I would be most interested if someone would correct me. However, in my
understanding, it is not possible to be absolutely sure that any file
encryption service is end-to-end encrypting your data. They may certainly
say that's what they're doing, but how do you know what happens when the
data is uploaded to their service? What I do is to encrypt the files on my
own machine, whether with VeraCrypt or another program, then upload it to a
standard file host like dropbox. Obviously, I'm relying on the encryption
application, but I prefer to rely on that open source application rather
than a service.

work. I believe it has something to do with the password.

When I do the search for wireless network routine, it sees my router. I
select it and then confirm it and it asks me for my password. When I
enter the password, it says that it cannot establish a connection. I
went and reconfigured my wireless router and got a new key/password.
Still I am unable to connect. I used the Humanware companion and
created a log-in file which I transferred to the SD card. Then I went
back into the configure wireless network and selected the 'choose
configuration from a file' option but still no connection.

Well that's about it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might
be going wrong and what might be the solution?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Hiding email addresses for Markdown

Quentin Christensen

Hi Armando,

Sorry for the late reply, have been away from the lists for awhile!

When you say hide an email address in markdown, do you mean have say
"E-Mail me" as a text link in the final HTML which is a link to an
email address? If that then I usually do:

[E-Mail me]
(mailto:address@wherever.com)

You can do it on one line or two but it will produce a link "E-Mail
me" which is a mailto link to address@wherever.com so will open in
your default e-mail client.

If you meant hide as in obscure (so it's harder for bots to scoop it
up: http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax#autolink also
notes that you can do it as an "automatic link" which obscures the
e-mail address:

Automatic links for email addresses work similarly, except that
Markdown will also perform a bit of randomized decimal and hex
entity-encoding to help obscure your address from address-harvesting
spambots. For example, Markdown will turn this:

<address@example.com>

into something like this:

address@exa
mple.com

which will render in a browser as a clickable link to “address@example.com”.

I don't think you can give it a plain text link (like "E-Mail me")
doing it that way though.

Regards

Quentin.

Re: Best File Storage Encryption Service?

Aman Singer

Hi,

I would be most interested if someone would correct me. However, in my understanding, it is not possible to be absolutely sure that any file encryption service is end-to-end encrypting your data. They may certainly say that's what they're doing, but how do you know what happens when the data is uploaded to their service? What I do is to encrypt the files on my own machine, whether with VeraCrypt or another program, then upload it to a standard file host like dropbox. Obviously, I'm relying on the encryption application, but I prefer to rely on that open source application rather than a service.

It supports Blu-ray data discs if that is what you mean. A video Blu-ray
disc is basically just a data disc with files in a specific format so it
might let you write a video Blu-ray disc. Although it certainly won't let
you do anything with protected commercial Blu-ray discs.

apparently too special to figure out how to add music to the list. I
thought one could do it from Windows Explorer but am not sure this is
accurate. Thanks for any help!

I thought that by the time Windows ten came out that the website for the Outlook Express hack was requiring a payment. Did you pay for the Windows Ten update to the hack?

A friend of mine who was running OE in windows 7 had to switch to thunderbird when he went to windows 10. I don't know what problems he was having with OE in win 10, he just let me know he had to switch because that was one of the things that I wanted to know before I decide if I'm going to upgrade to win 10 or not is whether or not I was going to be able to continue using OE.

Hello Heather,
What version of Windows were you running on your desktop? Outlook Express does not include a spellchecker by default and the version for Windows 7 and later can be flakey in general so I have stopped recommending it. You may be better off using another client like Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird. There is a version of Windows Live Mail without ribbons.

Hello, I am trying to use outlook express six on my win ten machine! It works great on my desktop but, not on my laptop! I have reinstalled three times on my laptop and I used revo uninstaller but, it keeps certain files because, my settings are not being deleted off the laptop! The only problem is that it does not have a spell checker installed on the laptop! My desktop has the spell checker when I install outlook express six! I am using an e-mail program without ribbons for now till I get my training in may! So is their a dictionary I should install for outlook express six or is their another version of outlook express six I should install! I remember there were two different versions at one time! Thanks for any help! Heather

The only problem I seem to have with my Nokia n95 is that sometimes, when I’m doing something like checking the home voicemail, and I have to punch in the home number, suddenly, one of the digits will stick and give me a long tone before it decides to pop up. I can’t say that it’s a specific digit; it seems to be whatever digit that decides to do it at that time. More than likely, Cablevision will not recognize the number when it does that. Pam.

I still sometimes use my Samsung Haven flip phone. However, I have found that at times I can’t use the key pad to get through the menus that some places have. When I try to pick an option when I call a place nothing happens. At other times I can get through easily. I use Page Plus as my phone provider. Any suggestions as to what I can do about this would be appreciated. I have a feeling I’m stuck with this from now on.
