Sudden appearance of Edge as Default browser.

Carolyn Arnold

Today, Edge appeared, eclipsing Internet Explorer. Long story short -

Called Microsoft Disability, took woman over half hour, I finally said
Restore. They never will give you steps, just do stuff by tandum - I
think they do like me on my LG sometimes, just arrow around trying to
figure out where to go next. Finally after Restore, she left, so that the
computer could get back in sync, but it did not. She did give me a Case
Number. I called back, still not fixed, got knocked off the net and phone
out for a while. Now server had to end up giving me a new pass word,
which comes on now every time I come into Outlook and any time I finish
writing an e-mail. I guess I'll end up having to call server back. In the
meantime, my husband thinks he's figured how to make it deny Edge and
make Internet Explorer my default browser. Good Computer Guy did it in
seconds. I hope I don't have to call him, because, of course, that is his
living, so he charges.

Anyone have any idea why out of the blue Edge eclipsed Internet Explorer?

Best from,

Carolyn

Re: emails going to junk

I am assuming you are using the ribbon version of Windows Live Mail.
Open the menu with alt f.  The ribbon programs I've used have one menu.
Down arrow to options and press enter.
Then Down arrow to safety options and press enter.
You are now in a list of radio buttons for determining the amount of filtering.
I believe the fastest way to get to the option you want is to up arrow.  Stop on no filtering.
Then tab to and activate the ok button.

Re: emails going to junk

The reason it doesn't happen with Outlook Express is because it doesn't have a built-in spam filter.  You can turn off the spam filter in Windows Live Mail.  I'll have to look at the program and report how this is done later if no one does so first.

That’s pretty much what I figured. It’s definitely not that I’m trying to keep anything a deep, dark secret, but there’s just a lot of stuff that she doesn’t need to be bothered with and I’d like to keep it as uncomplicated as possible for her.

Trying to figure out why some items are placed into one Start Menu folder in Windows 7 and why other items are placed into another Start Menu folder. On my system, I find items in both:

C:\Users\Walt\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

And

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

Items that I find in both of these Start Menu folders appear when I access the Start Menu. Can someone explain why some items are in one folder and others in the other? I’m guessing that it has to do with whether the installer has installed the specific item for access by all users or only by the Walt user – I have separate logon accounts for myself and my wife. I’m not always asked whether to install for all users or only for myself, but this does happen maybe half the time when I install a new program.

The first is the path to the

"Current User"

Start menu.  The second is the path to the

"All Users"

Start menu.  Items in the

"Current User"

Start menu are only visible to the currently logged on user.  Items in the

"All Users"

Start menu are visible to any user when they log in.

Subject: [TechTalk] Placement of items into different Start Menu folders
