Wow I guess I did alright then. I bought this laptop back in June of 2012.
It was reduced because it was right off the display from 1199 to 700. It's
windows 7 home, I7, 8 GB ram, 8 core, 1.5 TB HD.

I've stayed a bit lower end and am very happy.
I've probably got around $700 in my lenovo server desktop with the
server grade intel i3 and 12 GB of ram.
It's a very good machine and runs well.
Plus with a good ssd in it it's very fast.
However, this question was specifically about laptops and tablets so
here's my oppinion.
Unless you are going to be walking around with a laptop or tablet i
would go laptop, for the following reasons.
A nicer keyboard. Cheaper.
Also, a lot of new laptops have touch screens available now so you can
still have the touch interface.

If i want a tablet i'll buy an android tablet and be happy.
I prefer android's touch interface to windows anyway so that's a win for
me.

For the i7 I had in mind it's actually $2,100, up to $2,700 for the top
of the line model - even though that's in AUD, converted to US, that's
still $1,900.

Yes you definitely can use NVDA with a touch screen.

NVDA 2015.3 User Guide The command quick reference in NVDA's help
screen has the touch gesture for various commands listed.

Arguably the best Windows hybrid is Microsoft's own Surface Pro 3. The

Surface Pro 4 is due out in October, so potentially if you can wait
until then you can either buy that, or hopefully the 3 should be
reduced in price with the new release. Here's some info on what's

Now whether a hybrid is best for you is something you'll find as many
different opinions on as you'll find people with opinions. For my 2c:

Why you should buy a 2 in 1?
- Lighter (if you leave the keyboard at home)
- Intuitive (With a bit of an idea of layout, it can be easier dragging

your finger around the screen to find something than knowing the
keyboard shortcut).
- Ability to use a keyboard and so have all the advantages of a laptop

when you need it.

Why you should buy a proper laptop?
- Screen doesn't drain as much battery, particularly if you mostly use

keyboard functions.
- Cheaper for the same power (and arguably if you don't actually a need

a laptop, a desktop is cheaper again - I looked a couple of weeks ago,

and for $2,000 I could buy a Surface Pro 3, or I could spend about
$1,000 on a laptop or $500 on a desktop all with similar specs, or for

about $8.000 I could get a desktop with say 32 GB ram over the 8GB of
the others).
- Consistent interface (you can set Windows 10 to ALWAYS use tablet or

desktop mode, or let Continuum switch as you connect and disconnect the

keyboard) and you won't go to start writing and realise you didn't
bring the keyboard.

In the end it's up to how you think you'll use it. If the Surface Pro

3 or 4 is within your budget, it would be a great machine, but then
again, if you don't really need it, you can get something else you can

definitely do all your work on for less $$$.

I'm still debating whether to buy a 2 in 1, a laptop, or just stick
with my hard working desktop myself!

I am currently attending wentworth institute of technology for a major
in Computer Science. I'm mostly self-taught and started using a
braille lite around 12 or so, when I picked up the basic book by Dan
Zingaro and taught myself basic. Having been infected, I've done
everything I can to forget those dark times, although I'd still love
to find a Braille Lite and all the basic stuff to play with again.

My focus is on performance, systems level programming and security. I
worked at Acquia last summer where I worked on drupal 8 performance,
so that we could improve the performance before release. I also did a
bit of security work. If you're looking for a head-spin, one of the
larger projects under my belt was a profiling test which tested
patches we committed to detect regressions in performance. The test
ran in a testing framework, which installed Drupal which installed
Drupal which ran another test. So it was kind of like a test, three
times removed.

My main hobbies are mostly programming, I have a toy OS I've been
working on, as well as an open-source mud engine, written in c++ which
uses Angelscript for scripting. I'm also going to start at some point
this semester doing some web design on the side, as my time with
Drupal has given me a lot of experience.

I am also the owner of the Freelists Macvisionaries list, which has
kind of spun off of the parent list.

I look forward to this list, I hope to be as much help as possible and
learn a lot along the way.

it does not reboot automaticly. You need to bring your screen reader back and hit the ok button twice after cleaning is complete. Note that this can take 3-4 minutes with a highly trashed computer

Yes, I have tried NVDA, and yesterday when I was talking to Freedom
Scientific, they asked me to use narrator. Then we noticed that even
using narrator some parts are not very accessible. The girl in Tech
support FS told me that if narrator is not reading that part, it means
that the problem is not of jaws, it is an accessibility problem of
Microsoft.Days before Freedom Scientific told me that the spelling
dialog in word 2013 is not accessible. Also the signature dialog in
outlook 2013 is not accessible either. So I am a little bit confused
because I noticed these problems that FS told me, but I notice that
the degree of accessibility in another areas is very different in
each computer.
Why this level of accessibility change in each computer?
