Re: FW: [win10] Windows 10 Anniversary Update preparations: latest happenings from build labs to anticipations #redstone #winten1607 #a11y

Hi,

To expand on what Carlos said earlier:

A toast is a rectangular window designed to show notifications from apps (it was introduced in Windows 8 in an attempt to replace help balloons). Usually it appears on the top-right corner of the screen whenever notifications appear. By default, a sound will be played, telling you that we have a new toast/notification, and you would use Windows+V command to move to and interact with the toast in question. Windows 10 expands this via Action center (Windows+A) where it’ll group toasts by app (more so in Anniversary Update) and will let you toggle certain settings on the fly.

Cheers,

Joseph

Okay I hope I am not the only uninformed person on the list but I just have to ask. What is a “toast”? I have heard this referred to only since Win 10 and would really like to know what they are. Thanks

Hi everyone,

Some latest updates on Windows 10 Version 1607 (Anniversary Update) happenings:

·         Free upgrade offer will indeed expire on July 29, 2016 except for specific audiences (in particular, those using assistive technologies).

·         A new tool is being introduced to do a complete clean install of Windows 10 that wipes OEM software.

·         Latest Insider build is in 1437x range (as of June 25, 2016), which includes fixes for feedback provided by Insiders during the last bug bash (a few days ago).

·         You can now tie your Microsoft account to digital licenses in the event you need to install Windows after changing major hardware components (motherboard in particular).

·         Windows 10 Mobile devices with Near Field Communication (NFC) chips can support wireless payments.

·         Due to change in how toasts are displayed, third-party screen readers will not be able to announce toasts automatically (only Narrator does at this time). This problem was reported to Microsoft.

·         For Insiders: Narrator will no longer boost speaking rate in specific situations.

·         A new command (Windows+F) has been added to launch Feedback Hub (a replacement for Windows Feedback and Insider Hub apps).

·         Expected release date of Version 1607 is end of July (around the 29th).

Note that the above update is for those using stable Windows 10 build (10586/Version 1511). Until it comes out, the main avenue for discussing technical matters related to Redstone is Insiders subgroup, with Redstone discussions on the parent list being aimed at preparing people for this upgrade and for Insiders to give you their thoughts so they can help you with the new stable version once released. The next report on Redstone happenings will be sent out in about two weeks’ time.

Cheers,

Joseph

I believe that in some cases the procedure was so slow that more

run Windows Update it is likely there are quite a bit of updates to be
prepared for downloading, so it will take some time for the percentage meter
to rise. Use the JAWS cursor to read the screen to get an idea of what
Windows Update is doing.

With no disrespect intended, I'm not quite sure that is the case for all people.

I found things in the tutorial that I might have discovered later.  but, for me, it eliminated a lot of frustration.

Haing said that, there have been things that I found that wasn't covered in the tutorial.

I wish that Amazon, for example, would give you the option of using your Tunein account.  If you could, you would be able to use the premium service that you pay for and can use in other applications.

Thanks.

It looks like running wuapp is equivalent to clicking the check for updates link on the regular windows update screen.

If I were you, I would either run wuapp again or click the check for updates link on the windows update screen and then go visit my IBarstool for the rest of the day. <smile>

I did a clean install of windows 7 home premium on a HP laptop on June first.  The first check for updates took over 17 hours to complete.  Subsequent cycles took 6, 4 and 2.5 hours.  It took around three days to get all the updates.  For me, the progress bar stayed at 0 percent for hours and hours, then quickly moved up to 100 percent.

You might save some time if you get the latest windows 7 update agent.  It is an update to the windows 7 updater.  Search for windows 7 update agent and you’ll find it.

Good luck,

Indeed.  Although there was no question about how to check for updates.  The issue was whether opening the Windows Update dialog using the

Do check out the price on Amazon for its cheaper. All in the US have a good upcoming Fourth.

I've tried the Prodigy talking glucometer and had limited use with it.  One of the main issues I had, was it timed out on me.  That may have been changed.  I currently use the Embrace glucometer which I've had very little issues with.  It requires such a small sample, and waits patiently for me to get the sample ready.  I purchased a starter kit on Amazon for a little less than $18, and that was with 50 strips.  For me personally, I'd take the talking embrace meter over the prodigy any day.  The only thing it lacks is it doesn't read the history of tests.

Well there was talk back awhile back on these things like this so thought this might be interesting to some. It sounds like it is totally accessible with speech and has some braille labels for buttons. See link below to it.

I imagine that since my area is now in the midst of the conversion to all digital, it will be done with Charter's standards and not TWC's, but that's just my guess on what would make most sense to do. I use my own domain for my email anyways, but the TWC assigned one is at twc.com now if I wanted to use it for some reason.

Hi Troy
I have Time-Warner with Road Runner.  Although I’ve seen the info about the merger and Spectrum, I haven’t heard any details.  Hope that helps a bit.

While in the Outlook folder containing the email message you sent such as
the Sent folder, try this...

Press F3.

type the person's first name. Make sure you spell correctly.

Wait a few seconds for the search to complete. Press Insert+NumpadPageDown
to determine number of found items.

Press F6 to focus on the list of email messages.

Down arrow through list of found messages. Press enter on an email message
to review it and press Escape key to close the message.

Press Escape two or three times to return to the normal view of the Inbox.

Re: time Warner cable? email questions, setup.

Yes, and that's what I do now since I've had a bad experience trying to return the rental to Charter when I was leaving their service area for a TWC area 30 miles away. What I never knew then was that one would need transportation 50 miles out of the way to a town my family never goes to, and their system doesn't like them putting the new address for the new apartment in as the shipping address for the return kit. After enough persistence, I finally got it done, but now with my own modem, that won't be happening again.

Time Warner will allow you to use your own modem/router, but it has to be one on their approved list. They don't particularly try to discourage you from using your own. They do of course tell you they won't provide as much support, but that is fairly standard practice.

Hi Curtis:

No Time Warner Cable in my Denver bush <smile>!! Purchase a converter box?
Hmm, I certainly hope we can get to that stage before I pack things up and
head into my grave where I can still hope to be able to watch tv and listen
to radio when no one is looking in! Get my drift some?

As for the modem, unless TWC says you can't, I don't see why you can't
purchase a cable router with built-in modem from amazon.com and other
places. TWC will give reasons why you shouldn't do that; I'm sure you are
familiar with the schpill!! If it doesn't work, we won't troubleshoot it
for you; we can't guarantee compatibility; we won't replace it for you if it
doesn't work ... Bla, bla, bla!

I don't have cable or satellite anything! I'm a horrid child still dancing
on the ceiling with DSL! I'm with CenturyLink at home and, when there
Actiontech modem quit on me, I simply purchased an 802.11AC router by
NetGear from amazon.com and I am having no problems. I didn't rent the
Actiontech when I had it; I bought it outright from CenturyLink as I didn't
want to pay them $7 each month maintenance fees. I used it for nearly five
years before it died and I think I got my pennies worth out of it.

So, do some checking around on various websites, I'm certain you'll find
something! Good luck and don't watch too much tv unless you're watching a
baseball game for me <smile>!!

Sincerely,
Olusegun

Wow! That sounds like signal nightmare issues in apartments, as the more splitters you use, the less strong it is for the TV side of things, and then in my case, I am on the 8th floor.

No because their phone and internet services now use two different modems.
So you'll be charged the rental fee for the one that handles the phone
service, but not for the one which handles the internet.

Just upgraded from a 6141 Surfboard to a 6190. I was first thinking of
only
getting the 6183, but I got the better modem for $30.00 more that I can
probably get back once I'm able to sell the 6141.
Routers are pretty much off-the-shelf, but it does matter which modem you
buy. As some are only compatible for this or that. TWC makes it easy
enough
to check on their site for which models they support. The only reason I
upgraded was because I needed to get a faster speed plan that the 6141
didn't handle. It worked perfectly fine for the four years I had it and
saved me the $6.00 monthly rental fee I would have otherwise paid for that
time. Now I'm getting around 220 MBPS for the 200 plan I'm paying for.
My understanding though is that TWC will charge you the rental fee
regardless if you buy your own if you've got landline service with them.
Which I do not. I think other companies (verizon, Comcast) also bake their
equipment rental fee into their charge regardless if you buy your own
equipment.
Surfboards are pretty reliable and once you've got it set up, it's really
turn on and forget about it. If you've got internet issues, it's probably
not going to be the modem anyway.

Re: How to search for e-mail Outlook 2007?

f3 is not an initiate  a find command.  You may be able to get away with using it, but where it performs a find, its purpose is to repeat a find, not initiate a find.  And it is for finding text in a document, not for finding messages in an e-mail program.

Try using the command control shift f when you are in the folder list of messages you wish to search.  In other words, if you are in the inbox list of messages, try that command.  I don't have word.  But there is a good chance a dialog will open.  Tab around it and write what you are looking for in the appropriate field or fields.  Then start the search.  If you tab far enough, you may see a search button.  The results, if any, will show in a list of messages you can up and down arrow in, open and read.

Not really. It all seems to be well isolated since I haven't experienced
