I believe that in some cases the procedure was so slow that more

Re: FW: [win10] Windows 10 Anniversary Update preparations: latest happenings from build labs to anticipations #redstone #winten1607 #a11y

Joseph Lee <joseph.lee22590@...>

Hi,

To expand on what Carlos said earlier:

A toast is a rectangular window designed to show notifications from apps (it was introduced in Windows 8 in an attempt to replace help balloons). Usually it appears on the top-right corner of the screen whenever notifications appear. By default, a sound will be played, telling you that we have a new toast/notification, and you would use Windows+V command to move to and interact with the toast in question. Windows 10 expands this via Action center (Windows+A) where it’ll group toasts by app (more so in Anniversary Update) and will let you toggle certain settings on the fly.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi everyone,

Some latest updates on Windows 10 Version 1607 (Anniversary Update) happenings:

·         Free upgrade offer will indeed expire on July 29, 2016 except for specific audiences (in particular, those using assistive technologies).

·         A new tool is being introduced to do a complete clean install of Windows 10 that wipes OEM software.

·         Latest Insider build is in 1437x range (as of June 25, 2016), which includes fixes for feedback provided by Insiders during the last bug bash (a few days ago).

·         You can now tie your Microsoft account to digital licenses in the event you need to install Windows after changing major hardware components (motherboard in particular).

·         Windows 10 Mobile devices with Near Field Communication (NFC) chips can support wireless payments.

·         Due to change in how toasts are displayed, third-party screen readers will not be able to announce toasts automatically (only Narrator does at this time). This problem was reported to Microsoft.

·         For Insiders: Narrator will no longer boost speaking rate in specific situations.

·         A new command (Windows+F) has been added to launch Feedback Hub (a replacement for Windows Feedback and Insider Hub apps).

·         Expected release date of Version 1607 is end of July (around the 29th).

Note that the above update is for those using stable Windows 10 build (10586/Version 1511). Until it comes out, the main avenue for discussing technical matters related to Redstone is Insiders subgroup, with Redstone discussions on the parent list being aimed at preparing people for this upgrade and for Insiders to give you their thoughts so they can help you with the new stable version once released. The next report on Redstone happenings will be sent out in about two weeks’ time.

Cheers,

Joseph

I'm not sure what you are asking.  There is a version of Flash for browsers that are not Internet Explorer.  it doesn't matter what browser other than internet Explorer you use  You install this version and your browser will find and use it.  Chrome comes with Flash already installed so that is an exception.  Install the proper version of Flash.

Cheers,

Joseph

That’s what I had thought.  That’s why I said the other message didn’t make sense.  Pam.

Voip means voice over Internet protocol.  If you are no longer connected to the old copper wire phone system, then whether you are using fiber optic connections or cable, you are using VOIP.  If you use VOIP, a modem is used for your phone service because that is really just another Internet service.  I don't know what is used for those using satelite connections but I'm saying in general that your choices are to use the old copper wire system or to use a service provider that provides VOIP service.

Okay, I don't get it.  I was told all these cable phone services were called
voip.  I don't get the difference.  I can't use this if I'm not connected to
the cable.  I used to have regular phone service from verizon, but I ditched
that and went with the cable, phone and internet from Cablevision.  Pam.

Sis Pam, I doubt you have VOIP!  Your cable company may also provide regular
phone services.  ComCast and CenturyLink are examples of companies that do
both.  The latter offers Prism Tv here in my bush although the service is
NOT available everywhere in the metropolitan area just yet.

Vonage and NetTalk are examples of Voice Over Internet Protocol telephony
services.  These services DO NOT give you the regular 9-1-1; rather, you get
E9-1-1.  What distinguishes a VOIP phone service from that of a POTS is that
you can't use them if you don't have cable or DSL service from an ISP.  This
is because VOIP services are not ISP's!  They are not permitted under law to
be ISP's.

Sincerely,
Olusegun
Denver, Colorado

Hi There,

You might want to check out

mysticaccess.com

and look for the tutorial on theAmazon Echo.

If you wish to purchase the Echo, the tutorial offered is good.

However, it will cost around $39, and if you want an SD card, you will pay $10 more.

You can phone them and ask any questions you may have.

Subject: [TechTalk] Amazon Echo questions!

Hi Everyone,

I am planning on buying the Amazon Echo and also perhaps in the near future buying the new Amazon, Tap portable model.

I have a few questions:

Is the software for the PC accessable?

Can I set the PC software up without any sighted help?

Is there any training instructions for the blind around?

Is there a List serve around?

Is there a quick start guide for the blind around?

Thanks!

From, Tom

Hi Marie,

Toasts are a new method used by Windows apps to display notifications.

Okay I hope I am not the only uninformed person on the list but I just have to ask. What is a “toast”? I have heard this referred to only since Win 10 and would really like to know what they are. Thanks
