Hi Marie,

I can’t address all screen readers.  In my case, I am using Jaws17 on a brand new laptop running Windows10.  It appears that WLM needs some tweeking before it will work with Windows10 and Jaws.

Hi Monica. No, the Appandora programme only goes on the computer, it is
simply a transfer tool. It highjacks the iTune drivers to put the music in
your iPhone default music folder but when you are running appandora, be sure

Re: Help with new install of WLM

James Bentley

Hi everyone,

By the way, I wish to take this opportunity to once again thank Jeremy for a very long Jaws tandem session. He repaired my installation of WLM. Then, he configured various accessibility settings to WLM so I can use the computer. Now Jaws17, Windows10, WLM and me are getting along just fine. What a relief. Its great to see WLM work exactly the way that I have become accustomed to seeing. Being able to use WLM is something that I have taken for granted over the years.

Jeremy also installed additional files and gave me some additional training and advice relating to accessibility.

I wish to express my gratitude to him and all on this list who have participated in assisting me for such a long time.

It's way past my bed time. So, good night everyone.

but they are above my head. He made WLM accessible by going to the same
location that you referred me to earlier. Apparently, WLM does not install

is not marked not available any more. And, most of all, I have WLM reading
every correctly. Everything is just like it has always been.

You are now in a structure you can tab through. there are two choices. One

As Carlos is fond of saying...sigh!

I haven't seen your problem discussed in relation to running Windows Live
Mail in Windows 10. I have no idea if there is some way to correct the
problem but I don't think it will be by changing settings governing what
fields are shown. There is some problem I've seen discussed where, when
people start composing or replying to a message, they have to leave the
message window and return to it before they can see the text that is there
or that they write. I gather you can do this in any way that takes you out
of and returns you to the Window. But I would think the easiest would
simply be to press alt once to leave the window and move into the menus, and
then press alt again to return to the Window. That is the only problem I've
seen discussed until you raised yours and I don't know if this is a general
problem or a problem you are having and a few others. Windows Live Mail
isn't supported in Windows 10 so even though you can use it, Microsoft made
no effort to see that it worked properly in Windows 10. I hope others will

Hello,
So, I've noticed, that my laptop only has Hazel, and the US female.
I'm
curious, why do I not have David, and the others? Or, to put it
another
way,
why is it not consistent, who and what you have? Windows 10 pro here.

Thanks to the information I obtained from here it is a good thing to report that using win PE and the portable version of image for windows it is so easy to restore with speech and possible to use that combination on a system that does not even have I F W installed on it.

Although I should point out that WinPE is not run from within Windows. It
is an environment into which you must boot so it is more correct to say
there is a version that can be booted on machines running Windows 10. It
only really makes a difference which version you use if your machine is
configured to boot in UEFI mode. If your machine came with Windows 8 or 10
preinstalled, then it is most likely running in UEFI mode. If it came with
Windows 7 preinstalled, then it is most likely running in legacy BIOS mode
and you can use either version.

As for System Restore, you can access it by typing
system restore
into the Start menu search field or by
typing
rstrui
followed by Enter in the
"Run"
dialog.

Imaging is a somewhat more involved topic, but there are many options you
can try. Some examples are Image for Windows
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-windows.htm
or Drive Snapshot.
http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/
If you want something free, you can try Active@ Disk Image Lite
http://www.disk-image.net/disk-image-freeware.htm
or Macrium Reflect.
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp
Both Image for Windows and Drive Snapshot are accessible. In the latter
case, Active@ Disk Image Lite is more accessible. Although if you are not
overly familiar with imaging concepts or how to go about restoring an image,
the simplest option is probably Drive Snapshot. It has a feature which
allows you to automatically restore an image on the next reboot. This means
that you won't have to boot into a rescue environment to restore an image as
you would have to do with almost any other imaging software. If you are
more confident in your technical capabilities, you can also use my WinPE
images
http://opopanax.net/download/
to restore an image with any of the above utilities.

And, as I pointed out before, if you run a restore point from before you
did whatever you did, it will probably solve the problem. If you are
going to play, it is essential to know how to revert the system in some
way.

If you ask, it is likely that someone can tell you how to run a restore
point in Windows 10. But at this point, we don't know if system restore
is running on your machine. Before you play around further, I would very
strongly urge you to have some way to revert the system. I won't write
about this again since I've written about it a number of times. I hope
you do so.

I haven't said anything so far because I don't think that the current

really has anything to do with what you are describing. The current view
should not affect what is displayed on the context menu. I am not sure
why
you are experiencing this problem and I cannot immediately think of any
setting which will change what items are displayed on the context menu.

I haven't seen your problem discussed in relation to running Windows Live Mail in Windows 10. I have no idea if there is some way to correct the problem but I don't think it will be by changing settings governing what fields are shown. There is some problem I've seen discussed where, when people start composing or replying to a message, they have to leave the message window and return to it before they can see the text that is there or that they write. I gather you can do this in any way that takes you out of and returns you to the Window. But I would think the easiest would simply be to press alt once to leave the window and move into the menus, and then press alt again to return to the Window. That is the only problem I've seen discussed until you raised yours and I don't know if this is a general problem or a problem you are having and a few others. Windows Live Mail isn't supported in Windows 10 so even though you can use it, Microsoft made no effort to see that it worked properly in Windows 10. I hope others will discuss whether they have this problem as well as provide information such as what screen-reader they are using.

All that should be shown by default. I'm not saying that you can't have more things shown but if you arrow through the message list and let your screen-reader read everything when you arrow to a message in the list, you should hear the name, subject and date. At least that's the case in lower versions of Windows.
If you are saying that you used to hear such information in an earlier version of Windows, then I would be worried that this is another way in which Windows Live Mail is not compatible with Windows 10. I can check later today if no one else has provided the information of where to find the settings.

Hi Gene,

Jeremy did a third Jaws Tandem and fixed WLM.  I wish I understood his steps but they are above my head.  He made WLM accessible by going to the same location that you referred me to earlier.  Apparently, WLM does not install ready for Jaws.  At least on some machines.  For what its worth, the column is not marked not available any more.  And, most of all, I have WLM reading every correctly.  Everything is just like it has always been.

Thanks for your responses.

I’ve never used google voice before but apparently I set one up many, many moons ago?

I clicked the last link in Mike b’s email below, signed in, and I’m in a google voice inbox I think? Then as I continued to scroll down and I see the access number. Is this access number my google voice number?

If this access number is the google voice number, when I call it to test it out, how come it says cannot complete your call at this time.

Can someone who use this google voice thing please straighten me out, because as of this writing, I am completely befuddled.

Hi All,

The 2 different sets of steps below will get you started in the right direction:

From: Mike B.

You'll need to have a Google account / email address for the steps below to work.  You can sign in 1st, or later.

1. Go to the Google Homepage.

2. Arrow down to Google apps, & press enter to open this list of apps.

3. Now press, control + F, to start the Jaws find dialogue.  Type in  *voice *, without the spaces or stars, & press enter.

4. You will be taken here:
1x/voice_32dp
Arrow down 1 time to, Voice, & press enter.  This will take you to the Google Voice set-up page.
I did not complete the Voice set-up process, so I can't go any further.

You might be able to bypass the steps above by clicking on the link below:

I'm popping this out to its own topic.  It's been a few weeks since I last snagged one of these, so I can only give a limited degree of detail.

Of course, you have to have a Google account with which the number can be associated, so if you don't then grab yourself a Gmail address/Google Account first.

These are free, and you can call local and long distance in the United States and Canada without charge.

Start at http://voice.google.com

It does not involve captchas, but you do have to have another phone or cell phone available so that they can call or text with a 3-digit (it might be 4) code you have to enter during the setup process that essentially proves a human being is trying to snag one.

You may or may not be able to get a number in your own city or area code.  In any case there are plenty of options left, but you may have to take a number not related to your actual physical location in any way.  I set my cousin up with one when she was staying with her sister and had no cell service, but had WiFi.  I had to pick an area code on the east coast to get the phone number I wanted (for memory's sake).  If you make your request based on a digit sequence you'd like in the number you pretty much always get a list of potential picks that may be anywhere in the USA if you were thinking physical location of an area code.

There's not much more I can offer at the moment.  I've never tried to go through the setup process with anyone with a screen reader and I don't do this often enough to have remembered each and every step.

Re: Restore point, and imaging windows was: File explorer help needed

Carlos

Although I should point out that WinPE is not run from within Windows. It is an environment into which you must boot so it is more correct to say there is a version that can be booted on machines running Windows 10. It only really makes a difference which version you use if your machine is configured to boot in UEFI mode. If your machine came with Windows 8 or 10 preinstalled, then it is most likely running in UEFI mode. If it came with Windows 7 preinstalled, then it is most likely running in legacy BIOS mode and you can use either version.

I hope
you do so.

I haven't said anything so far because I don't think that the current
view
really has anything to do with what you are describing. The current view
should not affect what is displayed on the context menu. I am not sure
why
you are experiencing this problem and I cannot immediately think of any
setting which will change what items are displayed on the context menu.
