New hd installation

Sylvia <sylvia0647@...>

Hi Carlos and all, I’m back with another question about installing the new hd. I’ve been reading some reviews about the wd drive you recommended. One thing that was stated was that the drive doesn’t come with mounting screws or a Sata cable. Will I need to get new mounting screws for the new drive?

Sylvia.

Still disagree.
I'd recommend contacting Toshiba instead. Microsoft do not have to provide support for non-Microsoft product. unless no other drive work on that computer also, there is no reason to waste time. Maybe you are correct and it works, but I am not agree about this one.
I had situation that an empty USB external encloser was connected to a computer and something was showing in Device Manager, even in Disk Drive section. It's also a possibility. Maybe HDD inside the box stopped working.

On 9/14/2016 2:58 AM, Carlos wrote:
Because all of those possibilities have been tested based on previous
discussions and the problem specifically occurred after upgrading. That

Windows 10, even if it is only an incompatibility with this particular
model of drive. You cannot categorically state that there is nothing
wrong with Windows 10. An operating system is complex software capable
of having many bugs so the possibility cannot be completely discounted.
Just because you have not personally experienced a particular problem,
does not mean that it cannot exist.

Yes. I did not read the message carefully.
So there are 3 possibility: USB cable, USB port or the drive itself.
There is nothing wrong in Windows 10. Why somebody should call M$
because their drive is not showing in their computer?

The question about whether it works on other computers or ports was
answered when the problem was previously discussed. If the drive is not
showing up in Disk Management which was already indicated, then most
likely it will not be detected by diskpart either.

Is it working on another computer?
Maybe you need to assign a drive letter to it?
Connect it to your computer, go to Device Manager, remove the drive
from there and then unplug and replug the USB cable. Hope this fixs
the issue.
If you are familiarized with diskpart you could try re-assigning a
drive letter. You could also do it in disk management.

Thanks so much. I understand.
Give it another try when you got some time. It's better now. Of course you may need to change some settings to make it more comfortable to use. I'll try to find those settings later.

Re: How do I refresh the folder list?

That's far too broad a generalization.  In the case of one user who doesn't have to worry about viewing mail on multiple devices, pop is fine.  If you are worried about synchronizing mail on multiple devices, IMAP would likely be a much better choice.

No. POP3 is not recommended at all. GMail+Thunderbird+IMAP=best
experience, IMO.

Re: How do I refresh the folder list?

Windows Live mail is slightly more accessible than Thunderbird.  Also, Windows Live Mail has at least one feature I don't want to lose and I would if I switched to thunderbird.  Wherever I am, I can immediately go to the default inbox by using the short cut command control I.

I haven't used Outlook enough to compare it with Windows Live Mail.

Thunderbird, from what I've read and seen in list discussions, allows you to set message rules within the program for IMAP accounts.  Windows Live Mail doesn't.  My understanding is that message rules can be set directly on the server so this is evidently not a matter of losing the ability, just learning another way to accomplish what is desired.

The newer Windows Live Mail uses ribbons and those who want to use Windows Live Mail with ribbons may use the older version of the program.  List members can provide the installation file.  It is no longer available from Microsoft.

Maybe you could do this in properties of that GMail account? Right-click
on the main folder and select Properties. There should be an option for
refreshing the folder list.

Your procedure sounds correct.  I don't know why you are having a problem.  Are you using the command alt b to open book marks?  If you use a different command, I don't know what the results might be.  I said that control shift b should be used when importing book marks.  When following a book mark, use control b.

While the subject is so wide, I want to ask a related question. First of all thanks for the instruction to import my IE favourites into firefox but now I do not know how to activate a favourite. I go to the bookmark menu and uparrow to the IE submenu and there are all my IE favourites but if I enter on anyone I just get back to the FireFox main screen.

I don't know what you are describing.  If you open Internet Explorer, unless you have imported book marks from Firefox. the Internet Explorer book marks should be exactly the same.

It is very easy to import book marks from Internet Explorer into Firefox.
In firefox, issue the command control shift b.  That opens the library.
Now open the menus with alt.  You will see different menus from the usual firefox menus because you are in a completely different part of the program.
Right arrow until you get to import and backup.
Down arrow many times and you will get to import data from another browser.  Press enter.
If you need more help, ask.  I can continue to write the entire procedure but I don't know if you need more information.  If you know how to look around dialogs in general, including those you are unfamiliar with and work with them, you may not need more information.

Hello,
I am using JAWS 17.  My default web browser is Mozilla
Firefox since that works better with the software that we
use at work.
However, I am having an issue in which I cannot enter
contracted Braille anywhere in Firefox.  However, if I open
Internet Explorer and use contracted Braille, it works fine.
I have input and output set to unified English Braille grade
2 in JAWS, so I'm not sure why JAWS won't let me use
contracted Braille in Firefox.
I remember it worked before, but Firefox updated itself a
week ago, so I'm wondering if the update caused the issue.
Has anyone experienced this issue with JAWS and their
Braille display in Firefox? I'm using a Focus 14 right now
but will be switching back to my Brailliant.  Is there any
way to fix this issue or will I have to switch my default
browser back to Internet Explorer? Braille input won't work
at all in Google Chrome.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Kelsey Nicolay

Re: windows 10 still not recognizing my External HardDrive

Carlos

If you were fully aware of those discussions, then taking an inflexible stance that the problem could not possibly be caused by Windows 10 makes no sense. Furthermore, since it seems that the problem may in fact in some cases be caused by Windows 10, calling Microsoft for assistance seems perfectly reasonable.

not including several other similar threads which I did not post, seem
to indicate that there is in fact a problem with drives occasionally not
being detected after upgrading to Windows 10. And in at least a couple
of cases as with the problem Michael described, the drives were not
displayed in Disk Management. I did not read through all of these

Still disagree.
I'd recommend contacting Toshiba instead. Microsoft do not have to
provide support for non-Microsoft product. unless no other drive work
on that computer also, there is no reason to waste time. Maybe you are
correct and it works, but I am not agree about this one.
I had situation that an empty USB external encloser was connected to a
computer and something was showing in Device Manager, even in Disk
Drive section. It's also a possibility. Maybe HDD inside the box
stopped working.

Yes. I did not read the message carefully.
So there are 3 possibility: USB cable, USB port or the drive itself.
There is nothing wrong in Windows 10. Why somebody should call M$
because their drive is not showing in their computer?

Is it working on another computer?
Maybe you need to assign a drive letter to it?
Connect it to your computer, go to Device Manager, remove the drive
from there and then unplug and replug the USB cable. Hope this fixs
the issue.
If you are familiarized with diskpart you could try re-assigning a
drive letter. You could also do it in disk management.

I believe the default storage space is 5GB. There was lots of changes to it, you need to check it in onedrive.com
NoNoNo. OneDrive is not for those purposes at all. You cannot restore a system image from OneDrive. It's something like Dropbox and/or Google drive after all.
