Hi Beth,
You plug the USB into the u2, plug the other end into the PC, and you will have a usable 32 GB memory stick. They seem to have an issue where the buttons fall out, though. Well, not literally fall but... But yeah, you would have better luck with that, than the apex.

I've got that. But I'd also thought of trading in my HumanWare
BrailleNote for a BrailleSense U2. What intuitiveness does that one
have? Will it connect better for Windows 10? Maybe Microsoft will come
to its senses.

Hi, all.
So does any person on here or anywhere in the world know of a way to use the Apex synchronization features with Windows 10? Has HumanWare even bothered to update anything? Sound off.

Re: quick pop question

Carlos

Basically, when enabled, it asks the recipient to acknowledge that they have received your message. The sender will then receive an E-mail alerting them that their message was received. Of course, the recipient is not obligated to acknowledge the receipt and obviously this will only work if the message has in fact been received and not lost or rejected for some technical reason.

Also, most mail clients have an option which allows you to request a "read
receipt" for sent messages. Obviously this option would not be suitable for
mail lists, but it might be suitable for important private messages.

The issue is not restricted to one specific provider. I have experienced
this problem with all providers at one point or another. In general there
is really nothing that can be done unless it is something obvious wrong
with
a specific mail server. It should be an infrequent problem, but it is a
possibility to be aware of. It is one of those issues inherent to dealing
with any type of technology. There are many things which can go wrong
during the Email sending/receiving process and not all of them have
immediately obvious causes.

The provider does not always alert you if a message did not get through.
For what ever reason, occasionally a message is not received and is lost
in
transition. Part of the problem with not receiving copies of your
messages
is that I have often seen members become confused if no one responds to
one
of their posts. They are left wondering if no one has replied or if the
message was simply not received.

You can try that option, but I don't know if it will convert the video files to the DVD format or even if it does, what program it will use to do so.  For example, if it uses Media Player to convert/burn the files, you may not have video on the DVD since you obviously do not have the necessary codecs installed for Media Player to even view the video portion.  As I said, for this type of conversion you are better off using a third-party tool like AVStoDVD.

Re: quick pop question

Carlos

Of course this is a concern, but it stands to reason at some point you will become aware through other communications that a private message was not received. However, on a mail list you can receive copies of sent messages which can function as an alert on such occasions. As I said, in general there is nothing that can be done and it should normally be an infrequent problem, but it emphasizes why receiving copies may be important to some members. Nothing in life works perfectly all of the time so when using any technology, you will simply have to deal with the occasional unexplainable problem.

Hello Carlos,
But, that raises another point. How can I tell if someone like a teacher got my email, which is a private email? I say that I sent it, but some then say they have not got it.

The issue is not restricted to one specific provider. I have experienced
this problem with all providers at one point or another. In general there
is really nothing that can be done unless it is something obvious wrong with
a specific mail server. It should be an infrequent problem, but it is a
possibility to be aware of. It is one of those issues inherent to dealing
with any type of technology. There are many things which can go wrong
during the Email sending/receiving process and not all of them have
immediately obvious causes.

Hello, for less advanced memembers, this is useful. In fact, it is good
in general. But I still think that it should be a toggle. What provider
did you have issues with?

Sometimes that is the case, but it doesn't change the fact that less
advanced members may still be confused and there are definitely times when
a
message is simply not received by the list. It has happened to me
personally on several occasions.

I just tend to think that noone knows the answer.

Although, so far, both GMX and gmail have been good at
alerting.

Hello,
LOL, now you know why I'm considering to get the gmail back? LOL, if
there's something that I hate in lists, is seeing my own message. LOL, if
I want it, it'll be in my sent, or I can CC myself. And if it doesn't go
through, the provider will notify me, anyway. Or at least, they should.

One more thing John:  Please note that ScotTrade is a discount brokerage.  In other words, it won't ever tell you what stocks to purchase!  You do your own research and call the bids.  It has certain requirements that you need to satisfy before you can purchase stocks through it and you can read all about it on the website.

With discount brokerages, you keep more of your money and only pay back and front end fees when you buy or sell stocks.

To learn more about brokerage related activities, please consider joining the blind finance mailing list by sending a blank message to:

Lots of knowledgeable folks there to help out and it's a low traffic list.

Now, part two of my dilemma. How to burn this file to disk. In my auto play menu here on my W8.1 computer, I have a choice that says burn video files to disk using windows explorer. So how would one do that? I am using Wu8.1 jaws 17 beta VLC player and a file downloaded using free make. Thanks Carlos for your help. Jim

Hello John:

The term "accessible" on any site, brokerage firm or not, is not always full proof!  Government websites are extremely notorious for paying haphazard attention to, or addressing issues of web accessibility.

I have had fun poking around on ScotTrade and I'm able to pull up whatever information I need.  For me, the site DID NOT refresh every minute second as most brokerage sites do.  I do use CapitalOne Investing, it's not bad.  I will perhaps avoid AmeriTrade!

Now John, fine me more penny stocks to grab or else buy me a chunk of Volkswagen now that its stocks are dead in the waters because of its fraudulent practices in the U.S.  I never knew a major corporation like that could be caught for fraud, <smile>, Just kidding!

LOL or you can just try System Restore first with a restore point that has a date prior to when the problem began. Sorry sometimes I get carried away, but as I said you should only use the previous solution as a last resort.

Hello everyone.
I have a Microsoft Surface pro 2, and one bose soundlink 3 speaker. I
don't know what is going on, but when I received this speaker last
week, It connected perfectly with my tablet, and everything was fine,
until yesterday that for some reason, I couldn't make it work again. I
reset the Bluetooth speaker, and I delete the speaker in my tablet
several times, when I find the speaker in my tablet, and I click in
pair, after a few seconds, my tablet says connected, but the sound
still is in my tablet, and nothing get out from the bose speaker. I
know that the speaker is working, because I am able to pair my iPhone,
and works fine, but I am not able to pair anything else in my tablet.
I tried to pair a Bluetooth head set, and happen the same thing, in my
computer says connected, but I have no audio in my headset.
What can I do to put everything again like 2 days ago?
Thanks for every body.

Re: problem pairing bluetooth devices in tablet

Carlos

Sigh. Windows bluetooth being flakey again. Unfortunately, the only answer I have is somewhat complicated and you should only try it if all else fails.
Note, the following procedure involves editing the registry so use it at your own risk.
You can reset the bluetooth settings in Windows by deleting the two following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\BTH
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\BTHENUM
However, by default you will not have the required privileges to delete these keys so you have to run the registry editor with system level privileges. To do this you should download the PsExec command line tool here.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx
Place the file
PsExec.exe
in your
Windows
directory, then open a command line as administrator and run the following command.
psexec -i -s regedit.exe
This will open the registry editor with system level privileges and you can then delete the previously mentioned keys. Note that you should reboot after deleting these keys and you may or may not have to repair all of your bluetooth devices.

Key mapping can be equally bad on Windows screen readers in particular; example: When the screen reader says to press ctrl-insert-Windows KeyF3. Phew, that can be killing for me! And I don't have dexterity issues.

But, notwithstanding, I'm sticking with Windows as I don't wish to deal with proprietary nonsense which, after a major crash, may slow me down to more than a crawl.
