Re: windows 7 question for a friend
Pamela Dominguez
No. He wants to make it not show as a window when
alt tabbing, not for it to go away entirely. And you can do that, because
mine is set up so that it doesn’t show. At one point, I had it
showing. I don’t know how you change it so that it does, or doesn’t, since
I didn’t do either one myself. Pam.

It can, but not by default. And as far as I know, the official developers do not promote or support such add-ons.

I don't have a solution but I have two
suggestions. Perhaps you wouldn't have the problem if you tried to read
the document in something else like Wordpad. If you don't need to edit the
document but just read it, another program may serve better. Also, my
impression is that when dealing with long documents, word becomes less
responsive as you move farther into the document.
If my first suggestion doesn't
solve the problem, before you move away from the document, write something
distinctive where you leave off so you can use the find command to find it
again. If you don't want to take a chance of accidentally saving the
altered document and not having the original, back up the original and use a
copy as I have suggested.

I'm running jaws 17, word 2010, and win10. I'm trying to read a document a rather long one and having some odd issues. Word keeps loosing my place, I'm doing a lot of say alls then stopping, making a note in another file, then coming back to the long word document. It's not where it should be, sometimes off by a few lines, sometimes a few pages, just now on page 5 when I was on page 89. Any ideas? Thanks. Dave.

Hi Michael,
Taking the Desktop out of the loop when using Alt +
Tab. You want to change your desktop theme to Windows
Classic. Try the following:
1. While on the desktop make sure
nothing is selected. Press control + spacebar until you hear not
selected. You can also press the F5 key.
2. Open your context menu, up arrow
to personalize, & press enter.
3. Press down arrow until you get
to an item called Windows7 Basic. Right arrow to Windows Classic. Hit the
enter key to make the
desired change. 4. Wait a few seconds or until you hear an audio sound effect confirming the completion of this process. I would wait another 2 minutes or so as your computer is making lots of changes and you want to allow lots of time for the process to complete. HTH Take care. Mike Sent from my iBarstool. Go Dodgers! Re: windows 7 question for a friend
Gene
The show desktop button doesn't have anything to do with whether the
desktop is shown in tab order. It's supposed to do the same thing as
windows D or Windows m. It moves you to the desktop and minimizes all
opened applications according to what I've read. But I seem to recall
pressing the button at some time or another and it didn't do it. Again,
this is my hazy recollection from trying it once or twice a long time ago and
may not be correct.
At any rate, it won't do what is wanted. You have to use the classic desktop theme to eliminate it from tab order. I don't know if using it limits access to anything in ways you might not want to lose but classic theme is the only solution I've ever seen proposed for this problem. I haven't played around with desktop themes for years so I'll let someone
else describe the procedure.
