I don't know if you have to uninstall it.  What I think will happen is that when you install the new version, you will be asked during installation if you want to uninstall the old version.

I am helping a friend to migrate from Window-eyes 8.4 paid version to the current version of window-eyes for office.  Should we remove the paid version first or can we install W.E. for office without uninstalling the paid version?

Re: Unread messages in Outlook.

John Gregory <stratplayer@...>

Hi Carolyn,

You need to turn 'preview' off.

1. Shift + F6 twice to the ribbon menu;
2. Right arrow until you get to the 'View' tab and then down arro to open
that tab;
3. Arrow down until you get to 'Layout' and then right arrow to open the
submenu;
4. Arrow down to 'Reading Pane' and right arrow;
5. Press 'spacebar' to open the options;
6. Arrow down to 'off' and press Enter.

Now the reading pane is off, Outlook will not preview the message and hence
will not mark it as 'read'.

HTH.

John.

Hi. The only one I can think of is the Blind Ex list. I'm not sure if that's how it's written. I'm subscribed, but it's a very low traffic list.

if you're just looking for general chat there's the tech talk list Carlos runs at io groups. It's been quiet lately, but there are a ton of jokes and pretty much any discussion topic is Okay over there.

Hi James, you could try setting up a Microsoft account on your computer. In W-10 having a Microsoft account to sign-in with is important in my opinion.

Hi Joseph,

I totally can not believe that I did it but, I misplaced and forgot my stupid password.

The laptop already boots up with any need for a password but I could be in for a fresh install at some point in the future unless someone knows a work around.

However, I bought this particular laptop just for the purpose of experimenting with installing different software including resetting  and  doing fresh installs of Windows.  I just do not want to experiment that far quite yet.

Thanks for your post,

I need to know how to stop Winn10 Creator, from asking for a password up on waking up.

And, is it possible to recover a forgotten local account log on password?  I ask the Ms Accessibility  Desk today and they said that the only way to get rid of the password is to do a fresh install.  Ouch!

Yes, all banks have that feature. The other thing is, if you signed up for this account, you could move money to it from your current bank.

No, I wasn’t saying you get 20 percent on everything you deposit, I am saying you get 20 percent added to what you save on left over change for transactions. So, say you spend $2.33 that extra 77 cent would go directly to your savings, and any other change from transactions from the week, at the end of the week, you get 20 percent more of what those small transfers from the change left over from transactions. I have been using it since January, and have gotten almost 20 bucks in 20 percent increases, but I also use this card for everything. And they are FDIC approved, have had no issues yet, love getting my payroll check 2 days early.

Re: Virtual Recorder utility not working correctly in Windows 10

Carlos

Hi Don,

The fact that using the virtual capture device and
"Stereo Mix"
from the default sound card together causes an echo is expected behavior since you are effectively recording the same source twice.  The both option is intended to be used with other sources such as a microphone, line in, and so on.  Although you should be able to use the
"Stereo Mix"
device from a sound card other than the default with no problems.

Carlos, for some  reason, the program is working very well on my HP desktop running Windows 10 anniversary.  I had to choose the software option because choosing both it and the stereo mix caused an unpleasant echo affect.  I also needed to lower its volume from the default 500 down to 400 for best results.

Hi Robin,

At this point, I have no clue what is causing the problem for some users and not others, but I of course appreciate all feedback.  I'm not sure if the sound card being used would make a difference or not, but virtual capture does use the audio device configured as the system default so I suppose anything is possible.

Hi,
I mentioned the soundcard in the interest of being as factual and detailed as possible as obviously something was coming into play and you never know which bit of minutia might reveal something.  further virtual capture is the exact recording input source I was using. And as of this writing it is for whatever reason still working here under Windows 10 1703 (OS Build 15063.250)
For whatever it is or isn’t worth I hope Carlos finds it useful.

It's not the sound card that's the problem.  The player evidently no longer works when you use the option that doesn't record using a sound card.  I don't recall the name of the option but it's purpose is to allow recording of things such as Internet streams or other material you would have used a Stereo Mix sound card feature for in the past.  Now, you could use this feature if your sound card didn't support such an option or even if it did.

Hi,
It just worked for me 3 days ago under Windows 10 creator’s update. I’m using a SoundBlaster Omni USB soundcard.

Interestingly, some users have reported that it still works for them so now I'm just confused.

Subject: Virtual Recorder utility not working correctly in Windows 10

Hello everyone,

It seems that the Virtual Recorder utility is no longer working in Windows 10.  Probably due to incompatibilities, the audio virtual capture device is causing FFmpeg to completely freeze up.  That's what I get for not testing more often.  I have no idea how long the problem has existed so it could go back to the Anniversary edition.  Unfortunately, there's not much I can do about this until or unless the developer updates the DLL.  Recording via the sound card/hardware audio devices still seems to work as expected, but the ability to record anything playing through the sound card is broken.  You can still use your sound card's
"Stereo Mix"/"What You Hear"
option if it has that capability to achieve similar results, but the primary reason for creating Virtual Recorder was for cards especially on laptops that do not have that feature.  My apologies.  I will of course post a fix if the DLL is ever updated, but considering that the last release was made three years ago, I won't be holding my breath.

Re: new accessible bank, app is great too!

Hi all,

Oh, Lord, deliver me! 20% interest a week? Get out! If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. I wouldn't put your SSA check in there if you paid me! That would mean your savings would double in five weeks, that's impossigle, and the securities commission wouldn't allow such a thing. Hmmm, well, it does seem to be a real place. It's not 20% on your saving but 10% on the payback when you use your card with them. Say you get $.50 back on a transaction, you'd get $.05 in your savings. but I dunnow. I'd have to know a lot more about it before I'd join.

Well, I found this by pure accident. I was looking for a conferencing app, and this banking app popped up. It’s called “chime bank” without the quotes. There are a few unlabeled buttons, but if you tap them they are self explainatory. There is bill pay, a checking and a savings account, it even helps you save money if you want, and gives you 20 percent more at the end of the week in your savings. There are no hidden fees, no over draft charges, and signing up only takes 5 minutes and you don’t need any cash to open it. You can have your social security or payroll check direct deposited, and the best part about that, is you get it a couple days early. For example, my sister receives SSI, and her deposit normally doesn’t go threw until the 1st of each month, well she received her check last Tuesday, witch was the 25th of april. You get a debit card, and a checking account with routing number. Bill pay is 100 percent accessible, and you can even send money to friends. I have been using this app since the beginning of the year, and I have no complaints! I have moved everything from my wells fargo and regions account to this one and closed both of them. That’s how much I like this app. If you use the below link to sign up, you will receive 5 bucks free into your account after you load 100 bucks or more, either threw direct deposit,or loading in person at Walmart or walgreens.

Tablets.

Carolyn Arnold

I just wanted to say here, where there has been a lot of tablet talk, that there is a lot to say about an Amazon Kindle or an RCA Galileo Pro. Both, in my opinion, are well worth the money.

My husband, Jim, is using the Kindle more. He is helping me a lot with the RCA, which is easier for me. It has a keyboard. However, one can get a keyboard for a Kindle. There are somethings that I like better about the Kindle, like the screen configuration. It always tells you which row and column you are on. Right now, for me, it is easier to shut down. Laz advised me to take it slow, which was good advice. So, I think we'll both use both.

Best from,

Carolyn

if your device supports sd or micro sd cards, use those because they fit fully inside the device letting you have extra storeage without having to always remember to carry your usb flash stick in your pocket or purse wherever you go.

yes. a flash drive looks like a small stick with a USB port
on the end and a slider on one part to slide it in and out
when not in use. an sd card looks like a flat postage stamp.

Ok, I finally straightened out the BARD password thingie,
logged into
BARD on my Shiny Android toy; Just for a test run, I
elected to
download an audio magazine. I grabbed National
Geographic. The audio
magazine folder was automatically created. I had my phone
set to also
use data transfers when downloading; in this way, if I
happen to walk
away from an active WI-FI environment, a download for a
very large
file will continue uninterrupted.
The download took only a few minutes!

I didn't need to UNZIP the downloaded material before
reading. I
located the Bookshelf on the top left, activated it, found
the only
magazine I downloaded, did a double tap on it, and it
began to read.
At the bottom of the screen were all sorts of accessible
buttons:
Decrease volume, increase volume, Stop, Speed and several
others that
I can't recall presently. I need to play with the app
some more.
When I logged in, the app sought to know where I would
like to have
downloaded materials stored; in the internal memory of my
phone, or on
my SD card. I chose the latter since I have a 128GB one
in my phone.
The good thing about this is that I can take the SD card
out, move the
folder to a USB flash drive on the computer, plug the USB
flash drive
into the NLS Player and read away. Alternately, if I
don't want to
take out the SD card, I can connect the USB flash drive to
my Android
phone and use a File Transfer app to move the folder from
the SD card
to the USB flash drive.

Being able to read material directly on my Android phone
with zero
hassles is refreshing; eventually, I won't even need the
NLS player
anymore, or any specially adapted toy like the Victor
Stream, PlexTalk
Pocket and others in order to read NLS books as recorded
audio. Of
course, I already read ePub,
.mobi, and .PDF books on my Shiny Android toy! A book
reader in my pocket
that does a heck of a lot more? Let progress keep moving
forward!
So, if anyone has an Android toy, and wishes to use the
BARD app,
please consider having your downloaded materials placed on
an SD card
if your device has a slot for one.
Personally, I won't buy any Android toy that DOES NOT
support SD
cards. By doing this, you keep the internal storage space
for those
apps that must necessarily be installed there.

Sincerely,
Olusegun
Denver, Colorado

Balabolka is also free. And since it is a desktop application, you can use any SAPI voices you have installed for the output.

they both cost money. robobraille is free and works very good for this. just go to www.robobraille.org and upload your epub book and then choose mp3 followed by tts voice and language and speed then enter your email then hit submit. a few moments later you will get an email with your converted book.

Hi Rhonda,

Epub books are etext books. You would need a text-to-speech converter like Kurzie or Docuscan Plus, and you'd get a computer voice.
