Going back to the hospital

Carlos

Hello everyone,

I've finally given in and I'm going to the emergency room tomorrow.  These horrible reoccurring fevers have been making my life miserable on and off for the last few weeks and the only thing I can think it might be is the blood infection again.  Sigh of course, I've actually been feeling a bit better the last couple of days, but I'm still going in because assuming it is the infection, I can't afford to just ignore it.  I'm hoping they won't make be stay and I'll be able to just do the antibiotic treatments at home, but last time they wouldn't release me until my blood tests came back negative which took almost two weeks.  Even if they decide to keep me, I'm taking a computer this time so hopefully I won't be completely out of contact as I was during my previous stay.  Although it may depend on the status of internet service at this hospital.  I would assume Wi-Fi is free as it is with most of them, but they charged me for the phone and television service which is apparently uncommon so who knows.  At least for television service.  However, if there are no hitches with internet service, I should still be here.  I don't even mind paying for Wi-Fi as long as it isn't too unreasonable.  At worst I'm guessing that even if they do charge, it would be part of the package including the phone and television.  Still, I thought I would just let everyone know in case something unforeseeable happens and I do lose contact.

Re: Trouble Solving Captchas with Webvisum

Carlos

I doubt it.  These new captchas work differently.  For example, instead of simply resolving a string of characters, you might receive a query such as, "select all blue cars in the image".

But the first question is, "what version of Firefox are you using?"  Webvism won't work in any version of Firefox newer than 52.x.  If you are using a newer version, you can use a portable version of Firefox that is 52.x for solving captchas and the newest version, portable or installed, for other browsing.

Re: good virus checker

Michael Boyd <mike122061@...>

Sounds like the pop-up message from “Microsoft” was malware itself. I have seen this before, and it definitely does not come from Microsoft. DO NOT call the 800 number. The chances are that your current antivirus in combination with Malware Bytes got rid of it. Should it come up again, call Microsoft support to remove it for you. If possible, they will copy the malware for analysis to try to determine from whom and where it came from. No need to install another security program.

Hi Kathy,

I own 2 of the Amazon Fire TV Sticks, and I feel that they are the best product for streaming Video given the quality and                 price. The Fire Stick works great and comes with many apps that can be easily installed on the device. If you are a Amazon Prime member, then there of course are the Prime Video movies and shows available, and as many people are Netflix subscribers, it is easy to set up and use on the stick as well. There are apps provided by some of your local TV stations for viewing network shows, news and sports that they air. Alexa is great, and she works just like on an Echo. I often ask her to play specific types of music and what the weather is. I believe you would like the Fire Stick. Hth.

Re: some USB 3 questions

Michael Boyd <mike122061@...>

Here is what I found on the voltage and current output of the different USB ports. The wattage (power) can easily be calculated as per the formula shown:

"The USB 1.x and 2.0 specifications provide a 5 V supply on a single wire to power connected USB devices.

A unit load is defined as 100 mA in USB 2.0, and 150 mA in USB 3.0. A device may draw a maximum of 5 unit loads (500 mA) from a port in USB 2.0; 6 (900 mA) in USB 3.0."

As power is equal to current times voltage, all you have to do is multiply 5V with the current the device is drawing from the port.

Whether it is usb 1, 2, or 3 referrs to the data transfer rate; this has nothing to do with the time required to charge a device. The time required to charge a device is determined by the particular battery in that device.

After my recent update to Windows 10 build 15063 (which I think is the
Creator update everybody's been on about for months now), my audio
devices in Skype have all been rearranged, and no matter what I do, I
cannot get them re-rearranged correctly. Here's what's happening.

In the Tools -> Options -> General -> Audio Settings dialog, the
Speakers selection combo box is OK, but in the Microphone section, two
devices are shown, and I don't want to use either of them. So, I
select the "Show advanced options" button, and now I can access all my
audio devices. Again, in the Speakers combo box, the correct device is
checked. Checked? There was never a checkbox there before. Now where'd
that come from? OK, it's correct, I leave it alone. But in the
Microphone combo box, there is a checkbox next to a device I don't
want to use. I have tried pressing the space bar on it to uncheck it,
tried that technique on the device I really do want to use, it does
not get checked, I've tried with real and virtual mouse buttons,
nothing changes. I did find a Remove button and two pairs of Up and
Down buttons. Remove doesn't remove anything. I can move things up and
down in either combo box, but I cannot change the status of the
checkboxes. And if that's not enough, after fiddling with the Up and
Down buttons with mouse-clicker controls in my screenreader, and then
saving changes, the settings revert back to what they were before I
started monkeying with them. What am I doing wrong, and how can I
straighten this out? The problem seems to be on a per-account basis
bec ause somehow I was able to fix it when logged in to another
account, but even then, it took me forty-five minutes to do so. So
until I can get this straightened out, I can't use Skype. Any
suggestions?

Forgot, It does not matter if a machine is asleep. My computer can be shut down, but I can connect things to the usb ports and they will charge.

No, no scsi, it means universal serial bus. Duuhhh, I think.
Whether it is usb 1, 2, or 3 referrs to the data transfer rate; this has nothing to do with the time required to charge a device. The time required to charge a device is determined by the particular battery in that device.

Hello,

With regarding USB3 does anyone know what the indicator AUSP means?
It's something with SCSI in it's name.

Secondly, if a machine's asleep can USB3 ports charge a device?

If USB3 devices can charge something is it a fast charge or a slower charge?

Thanks.
Dave.

Hi Alan,

After opening the View Menu with, Alt + V, make sure, List, is checked, & after opening, Sort By, what options are available to you?  If you don't get it fixed I'll give you a call around 6:00 PM your time, & if that's not a good time, let me know & we'll pick another time.
Take care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

I'm not Mike, but I can answer you. It should be right under the size option
and descending should be right below it.

You might also make sure that list or details, I use details, is checked in
the view menu as well. That shouldn't matter, but sometimes computers are
picky.

Vicki
