I got rid of my Lenovo - no application, plus a Function key in my way. I don't remember anything annoying about the arrows, but $15 for a Logitech works fine for me.

Hello I was told by Lenovo that they do not have any separation from the arrows with their keyboards and I like the separation of the arrow keys, not a big separation just to know that they are the arrow keys. Also the rep said, they did not have the application key on the keyboard! Also that I could not turn off my track pad so when I type, I do not move the track pad while I am typing! So any one who has a Lenovo is this correct? Cheers Heather

Re: Lenovo laptops

I have the L 540. It has the full keyboard, I mean the numpad. It's
arrow keys are close together, but the down arrow has a raised
lip/line. That makes it easier for me to feel it, but I'm guessing
someone with better sensitivity (or normal touch) will feel it better.
I've not found an applications key, but where one would be on my
keyboard there is a print screen button.... I plan on using sharpkeys
to re map that to appliccations when I get a chance.

When any computer is sleeping or hibernating, the power button never shuts it off.  It always resumes operations.  You can set the power button to do different things if you press it when the computer is running.  when it is in any form of suspended or more or less suspended operation, the power button resumes operation.  To do otherwise would make no sense.

A funny thing happened with my quest for info on the Logitech K120 keyboard

"Marvin Atkins"

Hello all,

A few days ago I sent this group the below email:

“Hello all,

Does anyone have, or know of, the Logitech K120 keyboard? I can’t seem to find out if this keyboard has the original six-pack and inverted t arrow keys.

Thanks,
Marvin”
I did not receive a reply: I had looked on the Walmart site, Amazon site and inquired on Google but I could not get an impression if this keyboard was what I am looking for; meaning, a standard keyboard with the six-pack and inverted T arrow keys. Well, tonight I was testing out the IPhone app ‘Seeing AI’ (app that reads text via the IPhone camera among other things the app can do) and I thought I will run this across the keyboard I am currently using to see if it picks up a name. Guess what, I am using the Logitech K120 and didn’t even know it.  How stupid was that? Anyway, I will now order two or three of these keyboards just to have around in case my wife or I need one.

Thanks for listening,
Marvin

Hi Mike, Much, much appreciated.  I will definitely save this for future reference.

Incidentally, speaking of saved messages, any message I receive  which I choose to save, I now save to a text file in a specific Dropbox folder.  This probably sounds rather eccentric; however, I get a lot of messages whose subject lines leave something to be desired.  In this way, I can annotate it with a subject line of my own choosing, and it is stored externally in case of a crash.

Hi Donald,

See if this helps for message rules:
From: Carlos
I'm not sure that saving the rules to a text file is possible by any means I am currently aware of.  However, you can backup the rules by exporting the registry key in which they are stored to a .reg file.  You can then merge this .reg file back into the registry if you ever need to restore your rules for any reason.

1. Open the "Run" dialog by pressing WindowsKey+R.
2. When the "Run" dialog opens, type the following command as an example to save the Outlook Express rules to a file named OE.reg.

regedit /E "D:\Backup\OE.reg" HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities

This is just an example and will not work unless you already have an existing folder named

Backup

on your (D) drive.  You should change the path/folder in the above example to a location that you know exists on your system.  Preferably somewhere you can easily find it.  You can also change the file name.

If you ever need to restore your Outlook Express rules, just select this file and press Enter.  Windows will ask if you are sure you want to continue.  You should select
"Yes"
If all works as expected, the registry editor will display a message indicating that the keys and values were successfully added to the registry.  The rules should now be restored.  Note, if you are restoring your rules on to a new system or into a fresh installation of Windows, make sure to restore this file before you run Outlook Express for the first time.  When ever Outlook Express is run for the first time, it creates a new identity with a unique ID string.  It uses that ID string as part of the folder path where it stores mailbox files and as part of the registry path where it stores settings for the new identity.  If you run Outlook Express before restoring the rules, the ID string for the new identity and the ID string for the old identity saved in the registry file will not match.  If you restore the rules first, then when you run Outlook Express it will create the new identity and associated path using the ID string which was saved in the .reg file.

Although I am quite happy with Thunderbird as an email client, I opted to try this incarnation of O E 6.  When I tried the program in the past, it worked reasonably well but had one major problem at least on my PCs.  Often the DBX folders would become corrupted, and I would lose saved messages.  So I am not going to invest very much time and energy with O E 6 until I know that this problem has been resolved.

I would like to know whether it is possible to export all major components of this program, specifically the subfolders and the message rules, not just the saved messages.  If so, please tell me how to do it.

Thanks.

The updates are not to the program itself so the version number in the "About" dialog is of no use in this case as it would be in other programs.  The version change is to the installer.  You can check for the latest installer here,
but note as I previously mentioned, you will have to donate to receive installation keys.  You also have to register with the forum to access the download which has a captcha.  Additionally, I don't recommend using this modified version of Outlook Express for less advanced users. There are too many quirks in Outlook Express itself and potential issues with the installation.  It is not worth the effort in my experience and opinion if you don't know what you are doing.

Better to follow the instructions on this page, and use their tools to restore things concerning Outlook Express, rather than removing the security on your computer by blocking updates:
Having said that, if you do prefer the unsafe route, they do link to a tool to disable many win 10 updates.

Ah, be ware when you get windows updates, that lovely good program will go by by. It already happened to me so if you need this program, turn off windows updates if you are running10! If you have seven, congraduations you can use outlookexpress 6. If you want to know how to turn off updates if you running windows10; I have no idea unfortunately. Sure someone here will tell you how to achieve this. But turning off updates leaves your computer vulnerable to spy where and hackers that the updates protect you from. But if it works for anyone, go for it! Cheers

Passing this on from another list. I downloaded it and it is accessible and it is free.

Thought I would pass this on:

From Harry on another list:

Hi all,

From Tom Lorimers web site, whitestick.co.uk, he has outlook express version 6, which works on windows 7, 8, and 10!!!

I did not know it is still around!!!

If you want to download it, go to the downloads web page at

http://www.whitestick.co.uk/download.html

I went there because my winamp, version 5.66, no longer works. The volume is low, on everything winamp plays, and it is all the way up!

So, I went to Toms web page, and found outlook express 6 on the downloads page!

There is all kinds of stuff on his downloads page!

Harry
