Carlos' Birthday Today

Howdy Y'all,

I know he has passed away, but he's still with us in many ways, so sometime today, November 6, look up, & tell Carlos Happy Birthday, & let him know that we all miss him!  I'm sure he's taken over the head honcho's spot for Information technology in the skies above, & afterall, you know the man above needs help with an update that carries his name, Windows 10 Creators update!  LOL,  hahaha hahaha hahaha,  LOL
Happy Birthday Bro!
Take care.  Mike.  Dodgers, try again next year!

windows 10, newish laptop, lag when using wireless keyboard and opening folders

I have a newish laptop running windows 10 1703 64 bit. I have plenty
of ram and I don't know off the top of my head the other specs in
regards to hardware.
My issue is that sometimes, like when I put my laptop to sleep and
leave it alone for a while, I get stupid lag when trying to open a
folder. This goes for anything to do with explorer ... documents
folder, drop box folder, or just the short cut to my external hard
drive. It will hang and hang before it either opens or I give up and
close everything with alt f4 and restart my computer.
After that things work fine until it happens again. I've not kept
close eye on when it occurs, but I do know that it resolves itself
when I restart.
I don't remember having this issue with my old computer running the
same build of windows 10 with considerably older hardware.
This computer also seems to lag a bit when switching windows and there
is some latency
with my wireless keyboard. I use the same keyboard with my older
computer, I just move the dongle.
I've a Logitech Mk550 Wave Wireless Keyboard/Mouse Combo. The only
difference is that the set-up with logitech options on my laptop isn't
done all the way. I can't seem to run the program and set the hotkeys
like fn + f1, f2, f3, and etc. To open certain things like I did with
my old computer. It was considerably harder to run logitech options
program on my old computer but I was able to soldier through it and it
was probably with an earlier version of windows 10 when I had done so.

I'm using NVDA 2017.2 ... and I know someone will suggest to upgrade
to the latest version, but for some reason it cuts off my screen
reader when it is reading to me. As in the sentence abruptly stops. It
is hard for me to describe and the only way I found to get rid of it
is to install NVDA from a portable copy I have from my old computer.

Any suggestions as to how to resolve my issues would be appreciated

Hello Tom,
Since the last time we chatted through this e-mail list, I called Microsoft Accessibility desk and they too tried a few things on my computer. We eventually braught up the video in Firefox and it played. This was the same outcome that you got too. I very much do appreciate all your efforts in trying to get a solution for me. Aside from your windows 7 machine, what computer were you using that allowed you to play the video? Thanks again!

Does it work for you this way too?

Subject: [TechTalk] Vertual recorder

Hello list
I used this software but all of a sudden it is off my pc. I do not know if I deleted it by mistake. When I google I find a vertual recorder and a vertual audio recorder. I think the one I used was produced by a blind guy and it was very easy and accessible with jaws. Can someone please point me to the correct download page?

Is this a sign of not baqcking up files, programs, music, whatever else, that you don't want to lose?  If so, that is an important question.  As far as the link is concerned, I can look in the archives for it if someone doesn't send it in a reasonable time, but others may have the link already saved for reference.  So I'll see what happens.

Hi Roger,
I pulled out my windows 7 machine and it did not work on internet explorer.
I took that same link and opened it in Mozilla Firefox, and it did
what it was suppose to.
It would be to your best interest to use firefox when things don't
work as they should in Explorer.
I hope this helps,
Thom

I was using Internet Explorer when I clicked on the link and it worked fine.

I have not tried Firefox or chrome or edge. What set up do you have? What
screen reader, what browser, and what version of Windows, are you using?

No, I don't get a play or mute button at all. A previous post to the

That is, it said that this video cannot be imbedded and that I was to
click on the link. The link took me to the Facebook page to login. So, if

this video is not specific to Facebook, how can I get it to play for me.
There must be something missing on my end, that is, perhaps a setting or
plug in for my browser. If you have an tips, I'd be pleased to hear them.

Thanks very much for trying the link.

Hi again Roger,
I went to the link you provided in the first post of this thread and I
was able to watch the video without being logged in to facebook.
When I went to the facebook frame, the first thing I saw was a play
button. I hit that and nothing seemed to happen. I arrowed down to
unmute and had to hit enter there too to get sound.

Does it work for you this way too?

Hi Roger,
I found this site:

and it converted a video to mp3. The sound quality wasn't great, but
better than nothing.
I tried with the link you provided, and it said that it was an invalid
link. I'm not sure if that is because it is from facebook Canada?
See if you can come up with a US link to the same video, and I will try
it.

Hi Roger,

Maybe a facebook to mp3 audion converting program will do this. I am
checking one out now, and will let you know if it works.

If others know about a converter that works, tthis will help.

Hello,

Yes, I did see the items that you've noted. My e-mail was a question
to
see if anyone knew how to possibly watch Facebook Live archived videos
if
you were not a Facebook user. So, other than suggesting that I become a
Facebook user, I thought someone may know of a way to watch the videos.
Thanks.

How much of the web page did you read? Below the description, there
is
text that says, This video can't be embedded. Below this, is a link
that
says watch this video on Facebook. If you follow the link, if you
aren't
a
member of Face Book, as I'm not, you see a page for signing in and
creating
an account and it says on the page partway down, something like you
must

Hello,

I am having trouble in trying to watch a video that was once aired
on
Facebook LIVE. The website has archived their video. I am not a
Facebook
user. Does anyone know if you are able to watch an archived Facebook
LIVE
video if you are not a Facebook user? The video is located on the
following
website, so please check it out and let me know what you can suggest.
Sorry,
the web address is quite long and may wrap around a few lines:

Hi,
I’m not sure if this has been posted already.
Microsoft has announced that the free Windows 10 upgrade offer for people with disabilities will be ending on December 31.
So, if you have been waiting to upgrade your systems to Windows 10, now is the time.

Thanks
