Re: office 2016 with jaws 2018

There is a known issue wherein Excel cannot be read by a screen reader, Jaws included I have experienced this issue myself. Jaws or Narrator will read the document when first opened after booting up, but stops after an intermittent length of time. A reboot is required to get Jaws to read Excel again, but it may only be for a couple of minutes before the problem arises once more. Microsoft does know about this issue, but apparently not the lower levels of support. I had to keep pushing the issue until I finally was put in touch with a support agent in Redmond Washington who knew of the problem. Microsoft does not seem to understand what causes this issue to happen to some people and not to others, in fact, they don’t seem to know too much about the issue at all and are not doing anything quickly to remedy the problem. Many mor people do not experience this issue than do, so do not be afraid to install office onto your computer. This only affects Excel, which you may or may not use a lot. You may not experience it at all.

Hi
My Jaws was doing that with Outlook 2016 and I called Microsoft and they couldn’t figure it out and told me to call Freedom Scientific who said my Jaws was corrupted and they helped install another version of Jaws 18 and it fixed the problem.

Hello All,

I returned home last evening & was checking messages and now JAWS does not read me the sender name what I get on a typical message it is saying:

“Message Read 28 AM, Size 138 KB, Flag Status Unflagged”

I looked thru Options-MAIL & Options-ADVANCED but could not find anything I felt would correct this.

Has someone else experienced this and found a fix?

Gene,

With iOS, you get around a 10-day window after the release of a new iOS upgrade, in which you can restore to an older version. But after that time has elapsed, you can’t. It could simply be just something in the Settings that needs changing. Or it could be some other carrier network connectivity issue.

I really doubt it is the carrier.  I have no problem believing that an update could cause such a problem.  It's all controled through the computer.  If the problem didn't occur before the update and then occurred immediately after, it's almost certain to be the update.  If there was a delay after the update, a few minutes, a few hours, a few days when you could make calls, then it's unlikely to be the update.

Can you roll back to the old version before the update?  I believe you can.  After you roll back, can you continue to use it or does Apple force an update?

Hi Billy,
An update definitely should not stop you from making a call.  If you can't make a call, I would definitely think that is from your carrier.  I'm also sure even if you called Apple support, they would tell you the samething.
Since I updated to iOS 11.1.2, my phone 6 is slower especially when listening to Apple music, and when reading news.  Although, I do believe these phones do get a little slow after time, but not to the point where you can't even place a phone call.
Even though, I've never had an iPhone 5, but I know a few people with the iPhone 5 and 5SE, and they updated as well as you, they don't have any problem making a call.
Have you checked in settings for your WI-FI and cellular, if not, try that.

They were also the manufacturers of Mobile Speak, for both Windows
Mobile and Symbian, and Mobile Accessibility, for Android. They made
a few games for phones as well. I am really surprised that their
Android screen reader isn't being updated, as it was a great
alternative to Talkback.

What is the status of Code Factory?  That is, are they still in
business?  Of course, I know that they don't sell their older products
for Symbian and Windows Mobile, but they also make Mobile
Accessibility for Android.  Yet they only have the manuals on their
site.  There are no demos or links to places where it can be bought.
Their site doesn't say anything about going out of business.  Are they
still making products or is their page purely informational now?

After thinking about it I felt this was probably more of a JAWS issue or one that was caused by a wonky in Outlook making JAWS trip up.

I call Freedom Scientific tech support & she got right to the issue after I gave her the details.  Her solution is below.  She said this solves a number of little niggly issue with Outlook.

Windows r

Then type in: "outlook.exe /cleanviews"

This took less than a minute to run and then Outlook restarted and the issue was fixed.

This is likely an Outlook problem.  I don't know why the display changed.  but after rebooting, since that didn't help, I would look for the settings in Outlook that show what fields to show and what fields to hide.  They may have been changed in some way and one or more fields you usually see may not be shown now.  If that doesn't help, then, if you have System Restore available and understand what problems you may have, depending on if you have made changes to the system since the restore point, that would be a good thing to try.  When odd problems with unknown solutions develop, system restore often solves them.

Re: JAWS not reading sender name in Outlook 2016

Then the problem isn't that the Outlook setting was changed.  I don't know if it is something that can be corrected in JAWS.  You could try restoring the Windows since that is so fast and easy just to see what happens before trying other things.  Though unlikely, perhaps restoring the window will correct some problem.  then you can maximize it again.

If that doesn't work, and it probably won't, you could do a system restore or call JAWS technical support since Outlook is evidently working properly and a JAWS repair accomplished nothing.

Re: an article on internet security thought on this please?

Jeremy <icu8it2@...>

Yeah, I honestly can't say how different the process might be between configuring it on 7 and 10, I've not screwed with 10 in a while now, but I'll do my best. I also didn't look close enough at the original page there to see if there were already instructions, but if there are, you should be able to find something that works for you. I'll point out again though that the main difference between configuring it from within your router and setting it manually on your Windows7 machine is that doing it from the router would allow you to use the same DNS server on all devices connected to the network while setting it on the computer obviously only works for that one machine. They both have their uses though.

Anyways, if I want to set a manual DNS entry on my Windows7 computer, here's how I go about it. I first press the windows key to bring up the search box and then type network. I then would select network sharing center from the list and press enter to open it. When the network sharing center opens, I am placed on a thing that says, see full map and it says it's a link. I can't say for sure if it will auto-focus you on this same option when you launch it, but from see full map, I then press shift tab twice and land on Windows firewall. Pressing up arrow a few times here will soon take you to an option that says: Change adapter settings
Pressing enter here should take you to a list of the different networking adapters that are currently installed on your computer. Locate the one you wish to change the settings for and press the applications key and select properties from the context menu. When you enter the properties section for the adapter, you are taken to a list of different things that can be configured for that network connection, which you can see by moving up and down through the list. Use your down arrow until you get to: Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and press tab twice until you see properties. Once you open up the properties for this, you should then see the radio button that lets you select whether or not you obtain things like your IP Address, DNS Addresses etc automatically or if you want to set them manually instead. There's a lot of pretty neat stuff here, so don't be afraid to explore and take a look but just be careful changing things unless you feel like going back in there to fix it when your network connection/internet takes a wee poopoo. :)
Hope this is enough to get ya up and going.
Take care.

I am speaking more so of having the DNS entries sent out as part of the configurations from my router's DHCP server, as it takes care of setting which ever DNS I'd want to use for the devices that might be more difficult to access, something like the Chromecast or Apple TV, but you can manually set them too. I don't have the exact instructions on how to navigate through that silly Network and Sharing Center, but it's in the same set of preferences where you'd configure your computer to get an IP Address through DHCP or you can set a static one. I always have to poke around in the sharing center thing to find the option, but it's under adapter options where you can then press applications on the network adapter you wish to change the properties for and then select TCP/IP, version 4. Lol, these are probably the worse directions in the world, but it should get you in the right direction at least. :)
I'll write up something better, if you need more help with it though.
Take care.

I'd still want to read more about it, but it looks pretty cool. I've always used Google's DNS, for it's being easy to configure and use for all the devices on my network, but any extra security is always a good thing for sure.
Pretty neat though and thank you for sharing it.

Hi Billy,
An update definitely should not stop you from making a call.
Janet

hi guys, After recent update to the latest IOS version.
My iphone5s is showing no service message.
I have tried all i can think of including a full restore, and even took it to the provider EE shop.
The result is the phone is no longer capable of making outgoing phone calls, and this is mostly what i used it for.
Has anyone on this list has such a problem with the iphone5s?, Billy

I had already rebooted a couple of times.  I just ran a full JAWS repair and the same problem exists.

Did you do what you should always do when odd problems occur, first unload and run JAWS again, then reboott if the first option doesn't help?

George

Re: 5s issue.

Hi |Billy,

It's probably not as such an issue with the 5s. (I have one, and haven't had anyy problems in iOS updating. Slowness is to be expected in an iPhone as old as it.)

Now you may have done it already, but.... Did you try just turning off the phone, and then restarting it? Surprisingly, when people have reported odd problems after an iOS update, that has worked in a lot of cases, to put them right again.
