Hi, When you say you hit j on the applications key were you inside or outside of the message? I ask as I don’t see it having been stated. I don't use Outlook. I can't tell you the exact procedure with your e-mail program, but one or both of the following two approaches should work.
the address of the sender should be shown in the message properties. You should be able to copy the address to the clipboard and paste the address into the proper field when blocking a sender. Someone who uses your version of Outlook may explain this in more detail.
Or, if you can get to the from line, showing the actual sender's address, not the list address, you may be able to open the context menu and see options such as block sender. Again, someone who uses your version of Outlook will have to provide specific details. Whatever you are doing is acting on the list address, not on the from address showing the actual sender.
your procedure may work on mail from a single individual but it evidently doesn't work as intended when working with list mail.

Jeff, Wow, I’ve made a mistake in number 5. tab to Block Senders page, not safe senders page, you might have to press control plus tab to get to the block senders page, this all depends on how your Outlook is configured. Follow all the other steps adding this fifth step though.

Hi, When you say you hit j on the applications key were you inside or outside of the message? I ask as I don’t see it having been stated. Perhaps when inside the message highlight the sender if the list is configured to let it appear in the from field and try it that way. If the list is not configured to show the original sender in the from field that could be what’s causing the rub? Just a thought. Robin

Hi Janet, I would like to learn to block a sender without blocking the entire list. When I hit J on the application key, jaws says junk and then block sender. This is just how I did it last night. Hi Gene, I seem to have resolved the issue in the following manner. I went to the blocked member, used my application key, or shift F ten would work. I focused on the person I wanted to block and arrowed down to the junk option. When I hit this item it said block sender. I went to the tab key and found the option to never block this person.

Re: reddit
Gene
This may be a longer answer than you anticipated
but explanation is needed.
They are poor defaults because defaults should be
set so that new and inexperienced users will get the best results without
tailoring settings and that, presumably, those who want to tailor them will have
learned enough to do so. A lot of people never learn much about most
programs they use.
When a new screen-reader user or an inexperienced
Internet user is learning, automatic changes should not take place. the
student needs to know and understand the difference between browse and forms
mode. The student should also have predictability as much as
possible. The inexperienced user shouldn't have to worry about times when
automatic changes occur and times when they don't when entering the same kinds
of fields. In other words, screen-readers with automatic switching may
switch you to forms mode when arrowing but not when tabbing or perhaps it's the
other way around. I don't use automatic switching and I don't
recall. I want to control what mode I'm in. The experienced user may want and understand why such behavior
occurs. The inexperienced user should not be exposed to it.
Sounds are used as the default to indicate when
forms mode is switched to and when browse mode is switched to. The default
should be that these changes are spoken. Hasn't the student got enough
important things to learn and become comfortable with without adding a nonverbal
indication as default?
There are one or two other defaults in browse and
forms mode that should be changed but I won't go into them here. These
defaults reflect technical people deciding what should be defaults without
realizing what settings should be used for inexperienced and general users a lot
of whom won't learn and won't be interested in learning the details required to
use the other settings well.
Gene

least eight years, maybe more. I never had issues with automatic browse mode, sounds, etc. But perhaps, in this case, it's causing trouble. After that all messages from the list came into my inbox as opposed to the junk folder. As far as blocking her, there is always the delete key. Jeff From:

Re: did it this time, blocked a sender and now the entire list is blocked

We'll see what happens as the discussion
continues. I would think some list members know how to block the actual
sender. Lists may be configured differently and the same block sender
command you used may work differently on different lists.

you the principle of what to do and I suggested you ask on list if you want the
specifics.

Guess I’ll just settle for the delete key. Gene gave me some instructions on blocking just her, but they were a bit over my head. Jeff From: main@TechTalk.groups.io

Yes, but don’t you want this person to be blocked? Unblocking him to receive the rest of your messages did not solve your problem. Pam.

After that all messages from the list came into my inbox as opposed to the junk folder. As far as blocking her, there is always the delete key.

Hi, Seem to have resolved this problem. I unblocked the sender and now the entire list is coming through. Jeff

Gene, Right you are as I found when I reread your message today. Sorry if I was misleading. Now, it seems that Janet knows the specifics with outlook. Jeff
