Re: Issues with NVDA Remote

Eleni Vamvakari

The synthesizer on all of my machines is the same, espeak. I've only
ever used nvdaremote.com with this ad-on. How would I connect using a
direct connection through port 6837? Yes, I have tried connecting to
the X120E with my Desktop running 7 and XP, and my D270 running 7/. I
didn't try it with my X61 and XP, but I am guessing it would be the
same. I don't have a braille display, so I can't try anything with
one of those.

On 08/01/2018, Aman Singer <aman.singer@gmail.com> wrote:
Hi,

Here are a few suggestions, if I may make them. I would first make sure
that the synthesizer being used on both copies of NVDA is the same. I
realize this is usually unnecessary, but is worth doing. My suggestion would
be to match, if this is not already done, the server (controlled machine),
to whatever the client (controlling machine) is set to use as a
synthesizer.
Secondly, if you're using nvdaremote.com or one of the other
internet-available hosts, it may be worth doing a direct connection through
port 6837. I always do this myself, but found that in my early tests,
nvdaremote.com was not something I wanted to continue to use, the direct
connection is more reliable in my experience if you set it up correctly in
the first place (VPN, opening the correct ports, and so on).
Finally, as to suggestions at least, have you tried connecting to the
server from another client? I know from the below that you have tried
connecting to another server with the same client, what I'm talking about is
the other way around. That is, have you tried controlling the problematic
computer from a new computer or a new copy of NVDA? If so, do you have the
same issue?
Now assuming none of that helps, it may be worth asking two questions.
First, if you have access to a braille display on the client, have you tried
using that and, if so, does it display the remote braille? Secondly, have
you tried getting both NVDAs as totally new portable copies with only the
remote add-on installed and connecting between them? If so, does this work
or do you still have the same problem?

A friend of mine has my Thinkpd X120E. I am trying to use it via NVDA
Remote. He downloaded the latest version, 2.1, and installed it. It works,
in that I can connect to the computer and control it, but I can't hear
anything on my end. That is, there is no speech at all, although on his
end, he can hear NVDA speak as I do things. I have used this program for a
very long time. I have it on all of my computers, and I have never seen
this happen. I connected with several computers, and even reinstalled the
ad-on, and received the same result. I am, however, able to connect the
computers in my home, both with the old and the new version of Remote, as
well as with XP and 7, so I know that there is nothing wrong with them. Can
someone please help me and tell me what is going on and how to resolve it?

Thank you,
Eleni

Please start a new thread when starting an entirely new subject.  Please don't use a previously existing thread even If you change the subject line in an existing thread, the archives, I've been told, sees the new thread as part of the old thread and places messages discussing the new topic in the old thread.  Also, again, I've been told, those who read mail by conversation see the new message as part of the old conversation.  This may cause some people to skip the message who might have read it.
