Re: Yahoo mail question

Hi Donald,

I don't have a fix for you, but Yahoo totally shut down / took away 1 of my email addresses for the exact same reason, & I never got it back.  After they shut it down they sent me an email with a phone number to call, & after being escalated up a couple of idiots, my only choice was to call some company they recommended, pay this company $175.00 to restore my email address, & then everything would supposedly be okie dokie.  I told the dude to pound sand, & switched that email account to, gmx.com.  If you or anyone is thinking that I got spammed, you're all wrong, this was Yahoo for damn sure.  This was back before they got hacked really bad, but after that fiasco I'll never have anything to do with Yahoo as long as I can help it.  I wasn't the only person this happened to, but in all fairness, I haven't heard of it happening to anyone else since that short period of time where it happened to many people.
Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Ultimately I got my sighted grand daughter to get me logged into the webmail account however I despise reading email on the web and am hopeful that there is some Yahoo mail setting which will relax the restriction on older email clients.  Incidentally, I had a similar problem with an A T and T email account where I subsequently found a mechanism to relax that restriction.

Hello,

Not sure what is up with jaws, I had to use NVDA to get cCleaner to
read properly and I've got the update check off.

Thanks.

Hi David,

The easiest way to stop the updating is to turn it off when you install
an
update. When you run the update executable tab to the, Customize,
button,

&

spacebar it to open the settings options. I run Jaws so this is the
screenreading program I will be referring to. Now tab, & you will tab
through various settings options like putting an icon on the desktop,
installing something to the start folder, a couple of items of showing
CCleaner in the Recycle Bin context menu....etc.

Well, in here all these buttons are on by default, so pressing the
spacebar

on any of them will turn that particular option off. In these options
is

press
the spacebar to turn it off, now tab to the install button & press enter
to

start the update.

they do not appear to do anything.

Any help appreciated.

No, PM Mail actually started life as an ibm os2 application. I never used Pegasus, although I have heard of it. The  developer for pm mail for the PC was Blueprint software works. I don't know if they also developed the os2 original; suspect maybe so.

It's supposedly possible to disable this extra reading in the View menu, but when I unchecked the option for it, I still get the extra text read whether I want it or not, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

I find the whole Windows 10 Mail experience most frustrating, as it just doesn't seem to work like any other email application I've ever used, and believe me, I've used a dozen of 'em over the years, and until Win10Mail came along, they all seemed to follow the same basic access model--lists of mailboxes, lists of folders in each mailbox, lists of messages in each folder, sorted by conversation (thread) or not, easily switchable  betwixt and between. In Win10Mail I seem to have to do an awful lot of extra tabbing and moving around to switch among these levels. I was really hoping Win10Mail would look like and work like Thunderbird, to which I have reluctantly returned. I say "reluctantly" because I was hoping that electronic mail would finally be a full-blown full-grown native Windows application, either desktop or UWP. Not yet. At least, not yet accessibly.

If using JAWS, you should be able to read the email, but make sure that the virtual PC cursor is on.

Re: Ink Cartridges for printers?

Sharon H wrote in part:

"Okay, so if I buy a wireless printer, how much does it cost to buy refills
of ink or whatever it uses?"

Hmm, Sharon, unless you are interested in CUTTING AND PUTTING AWAY cables,
it is not necessary for you to have a wireless printer. Besides, it's been
a long, long time since I saw wireless printers that do PRINTING ONLY!
These days, they bring along many other cousins: Fax, Copier, Scanner!

As for the price of their inks, wouldn't that depend on which brand and type
you purchase? InkJet? Monochrome Laser? Color Laser? and the list goes
on.

It may be a wise idea to perform a random price check on various wireless
printers on the Internet; as you pick and evaluate them, do a price check on
their inks as well. The likes of amazon.com, tigerdirect.com, and
newegg.com should be good sources worth looking at.

Outlook express - free versus paid

I tend to enjoy checking out pros and cons of various email clients.  I have followed this discussion of Outlook Express.  So when people have comments or problems, I certainly wish they would make clear which of the versions of Outlook Express they are using.

Frankly, I wish it were possible for someone to do an A B comparison.  What are the pros and cons of each/

When the free O E 6 program came out, I installed it on my Windows 10 system although it was an early version of Windows 10.  Ultimately the program was completely wiped out by a Windows 10 upgrade.  Prior to the upgrade, O E 6 had worked well.  After the upgrade, I installed a later version of the program which worked very poorly.  Don't know if it was the program or the Windows 10 upgrade.

I am now running Windows 10 version 1709 and have installed the free OE_6.1.5.1.  This thing is working exceedingly well, so I would like to know what if any advantage there is to changing to the proprietary program.  I know they call it a donation, but if the donation is mandatory, the program is proprietary.

Lastly, I am a bit concerned that the next major upgrade to Windows may wipe out the program again.

I look forward to any comments or observations or answers to the questions I raised.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I've followed your procedure but am not sure. For me jaws is
announcing those checkboxes as buttons even when doing a read line.

Thanks.
Dave.

Hi Again David,

Here's how to turn off the check for updates setting after you have CCleaner

already installed.
1. Open CCleaner & tab to, Options checkbox not checked, & press the
spacebar. Note pressing the spacebar won't be reported as checking this
setting, but it does open it when press ing the spacebar.
2. Tab 1 time to, Settings checkbox not checked, press the spacebar, & just

like the note above, this will open as well.
3. Now , tab several times, around 10 times, you'll come to the Language
combobox, so slow down because you're now sneaking up on the updating
setting. It's the, Inform me of updates to CCleaner updates checkbox is
checked. Press the spacebar to uncheck this, & if you use the read current

line keystroke, Jaws / Insert key + up arrow, Jaws will report that it is
unchecked. Note: in this area Jaws will report the checkboxes status if
you use the read current line keystroke with all these settings once you're

passed the language combobox.
4. Tab on through to see other settings, & you'll get to the beginning where

you'll hear, Check for Updates, & press, Alt + F4, to save your settings
change & close CCleaner.

Hi David,

The easiest way to stop the updating is to turn it off when you install an
update. When you run the update executable tab to the, Customize, button, &

spacebar it to open the settings options. I run Jaws so this is the
screenreading program I will be referring to. Now tab, & you will tab
through various settings options like putting an icon on the desktop,
installing something to the start folder, a couple of items of showing
CCleaner in the Recycle Bin context menu....etc.

Well, in here all these buttons are on by default, so pressing the spacebar

on any of them will turn that particular option off. In these options is
where the automatic update checking option is at. When you find it, press
the spacebar to turn it off, now tab to the install button & press enter to

start the update.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Hello,

I was going to write I want cCleaner to shut up about updates, but I
thought to keep the subject clean.

I have updated my win10 machine with cCleaner latest v5.39 at time of
writing. I am trying to get it to stop checking for updates, because
when it does it puts up a nonspeaking dialog box that I only find when
doing screen review on another app. This is extremely irritating.

I am not sure how to interact with the buttons, the preference options
use to be check boxes where if you didn't want cCleaner to check for
updates it wouldn't just uncheck the box. Now they are buttons and
they do not appear to do anything.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.
Dave.

Re: Jaws problems with large tables

Now I feel really stupid. Somehow it flew right by me that this was an Excel problem, as the examples shown were pasted into an email message, so I thought these tables were being rendered in either an email client or Web browser.

Hello Christobal,

There is an on going problem between Jaws and Office 2016, and maybe earlier versions as well, I don’t know for sure. Microsoft is aware of the problem and is supposedly working to fix the problem which will be released in an update at some time. If this information sounds sketchy, that is because it is. I have been experiencing the problem since March of last year, and it has been like pulling your own teeth to get anything out of Microsoft on the issue. I finally hooked up with a tier 3 accessibility support engineer in Redmond Washington, and he has fed me more information than anyone. In my case, I cannot use Excel hardly at all, another table like scenario. This engineer, Sean, has subscribed me to the Office updates even before they are deemed official so that I might get a fix as soon as it is available. I will be glad to get this resolved, I use Excel heavily, and I have been recording notes about my work in other programs to be transferred to Excel when the problem is solved. I have also seriously been considering a Mac lately.

Subject: [TechTalk] Jaws problems with large tables

Hello list,

So, I’ve been having problems with Jaws and large tables. As part of my business, I work with one vendor that sends out assignments via email to bid on. Jaws will often get sluggish or pause for a few seconds as I arrow down the columns and will frequently crash outright. It’s become so much of an issue that I’ve started to switch to NVDA when receiving one of these emails. I find myself even having to go into the task manager at times to kill any JFW processes in order to get Jaws back.

I’m currently on the latest JFW 2018, but these issues were also present in earlier versions of JFW 2018 as well as JFW 18. I’m using Outlook 2016 on a Windows 10 desktop. This sluggishness also happens when I access the same emails on my laptop with the same operating specs.

I use both eloquence with Jaws and NVDA. Again, NVDA seems to handle these tables fine.

I reached out to Freedom Scientific with my problem and they wrote back saying that they couldn’t reproduce my issue. So…

I was wondering if others were perhaps having similar problems with tables and Jaws? I’ll go ahead and paste a sample email I get below.

Any input would be appreciated.

I purchased my second Hamilton Beach toaster oven almost two years ago.  I think the first one lasted about fifteen hears.  Good size, can do 2 12 inch pizzas at once.

Three analog knobs;  timer, temp, and mode  like bake, broil, rotiserie.

   Use it every day.

Hi Michael,

Another brand I would recommend is, DeLonghi.  They are more expensive than a Black & Decker, but they are built much better as well.  I haven't purchased 1 in many years, but the last I bought had 3 knobs.  1 for temperature, 1 for the timer, & the 3rd was for toast, bake, & broil selection, & with a little ingenuity can be marked.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Subject: [TechTalk] Accessible toaster ovens

Hi everyone,

I have seen this subject at some point in the past, but it has been quite a while. I have had my current toaster oven for close to 12 years, and it is just about time for a new one. I would like some recommendations on some of the more current accessible ovens which are available today. I would like a fairly large one that is easy to operate and has a timer on it. All responces will be appreciated greatly. Thank you.

Michael

Re: Jaws problems with large tables

Re: Accessible toaster ovens

Hi,
I have the Hamilton counter top oven.
It is not a toaster oven!
I bought it directly from the Hamilton Company.
If you buy a item or products over $75.00 your items will be sent free.
Its around $90.00
It is a oven, convention oven rotesrery, bake oven, broil.
It is large and comes with several racks and broiler pans.
It has three round knobs on the right hand side.
The knobs has a small knoch so you can feel where the temp. is.
Themp. begins around 160 for keeping items warm and as high as 400.
The next knob has 4 click positions.
The timer has a 2 hour timer and it you turn it to the left there is no time set.
It has a bell and it will shut off automatically.
It does have large numbers on it however I can not use that feature.
Amazon also has this oven.
Hope this info is helpful

Hi everyone,

I have seen this subject at some point in the past, but it has been quite a while. I have had my current toaster oven for close to 12 years, and it is just about time for a new one. I would like some recommendations on some of the more current accessible ovens which are available today. I would like a fairly large one that is easy to operate and has a timer on it. All responces will be appreciated greatly. Thank you.

Re: the native windows mail app

I remember PMMail. That's not the same as Pegasus, is it? Seems I remember it might be.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who just can't get into the windows 10 mail app. I too am using Thunderbird, although I certainly don't like it as much as I did my previous, very old and out of date email client. that one had the best most intuitive search feature I've ever seen on Mac or Windows mail clients. Oh well.

To read mail in Windows 10 Mail, the message must be "opened". That means when you find a message you want to read, you have to press the ENTER key. This shifts focus to the message text.

You may also notice, or have noticed, that while browsing the list of messages, you hear the first line or two of each message as you move to it.

Hi Shirley!

If you are using NVDA, make sure you are in brows mode to read an email.

You need to be in focus mode to write one, but in brows mode to read one.

The say all key command to read anything is:

NVDA+A with laptop layout, which I use, or I believe NVDA+Up arrow in Desktop layout, it could be down arrow instead. I always use Laptop layout.

If using JAWS, you should be able to read the email, but make sure that the virtual PC cursor is on.

Say all with JAWS, is Insert+down arrow for a say all.

Take care.

Okay, so if I buy a wireless printer, how much does it cost to buy refills of ink or whatever it uses?

thanks again,

Hi,

Does an older HP 13 Desk jet printer with USB cable use the same shaped or
sized cartridges nowadays, or do I need to buy a new printer, like wireless
types?

Thanks,

Sharon H.

Re: Ink Cartridges for printers?

David Mehler

Hi,

I am also interested in this topic. I am looking for cartridges/deals
for two printers, one an Epson NX420 color photo/scanner, and the
other a toner cartridge for a laser printer an HP LaserJet P2015.

Where does everyone shop for the best deals for ink/toner cartridges?
I know that the stores will probably not have the best deals as they
usually mark things like that up.

Thanks.
Dave.
