Hi Gene,

I feel that I owe you an apology because recently when I was asking about
my cd/dvd drive you were giving me suggestions and to you it probably
looked like I was ignoring you. That wasn't the case though, the only way
that I've been able to do e-mail over the past few months is on my iPhone,
and occasionally when I'm trying to send messages to the trash I hit the
junk button instead and send then to the junk folder. I apparently had
inadvertently done that to one of your messages some time before the cd/dvd
thread, and of course once one message from a certain person is sent to the
junk folder none of that person's messages go to the inbox until I tell the
mail program that that person's messages aren't junk, and I didn't realize
my mistake until this morning.

Just as an aside, I tried 2 of the dvd's in that set and they both did the
sane thing, but a regular cd did play in the drive.

Hi all,

For anybody who had Time-Warner before the merger with Charter created Spectrum, I need to know what the incoming and outgoing servers look like. I've just came off of what they call seasonal disconnect last monthwhere they suspend all services for a period of time, and initially I could receive mail after my account was re-activated but now all of a sudden it appears that I can't send or receive. I'm setting it up as a pop3 account and I'm using pop-server.gt.rr.com for incoming and smtp-server.gt.rr.com as outgoing. I know that nobody else's will look exactly like mine but has something changed now that Spectrum is more established?

In the view menu, find message body and press enter.  It's a submenu.  Find either simle html or plain text.  Press enter on the choice you want.  That will probably stop the messages.  Simple HTML shows the text as HTML but doesn't allow anything such as scripts to run.  Plain text, while it shows messages as plain text, may still allow you to follow links, I'm not sure.

I have my gmail account plugged into OE for windows 7, and when I open OE it

Btw gmail is working on my iPhone, so I obviously entered the correct

When you move through the list of contacts, they speak.  When you press enter on a contact, the phone says dialing and then whatever the contact has in the name field.  When you receive a call, if the name and number of the caller is a contact, the phone will say something like call from bill.  I don't remember if it reads the full name or just the first name.  Of course, this is if the person isn't blocking his information.

I have 155 contacts, and they are a big deal to me. I am so
used to just grabbing the phone, going to anyone I want to
call, and I first-letter navigate, sometimes one letter up
from the one I'm wanting, because there are fewer contacts
to navigate to going that way. I've gotten really fast with
that and texting on this little dinky phone.

I even have Jim's and my Consumer Cellular account number in
one of the fields under Consumer Cellular. The contacts are
my little mini traveling filing system.

Well, Sis Pam, Sis Carolyn is not too far off the beaten
path!  Indeed, if you have everything configured correctly,
your Contacts will go with you when you change phones.  If
the configuration flags are not correctly set, the story
will be different.

I don't use the Contacts app; in fact, I think I only have
about ten numbers in it.  Why?  These are numbers that I
always tend to forget.  Since I have my device properly
configured, if I switch my SIM card to a new Shiny Android
toy this very minute, all the ten Contacts I have will be
there and all I need to do is restore them from my Google
account.

If you are porting the Contacts over from a Symbian phone
such as Nokia N85 or any of its cousins, you'll need to use
an app to complete the process if transferring over to an
Android phone.  I don't suppose that Contacts on a CDMA
phone can be ported over without having to re-enter them
manually, but with Android phones, once the correct flags
are set, it works!

Sincerely,
Olusegun

Been there, done that with license plates. My husband was a

However, of course, we can't read it, because there is not

it makes a document or business card have class.

Ileni wrote in part:

"Please, can you tell me more about thermographic printing?"

Oh dear sister, I didn't create my own letterhead. Why?
There's a company logo and the name of the company is
"wrapped" in it. I'll need ten living pairs of eyes to get
that done correctly! A graphic artist did the design for
me, I took it to a print shop and simply told them I needed
thermographic printing for the letterhead. It was pricey,
but my choices were few.

The term refers to RAISED-LINE PRINTING; if you've ever felt
car license plates, that's what thermographic printing looks
like. Because this one is on paper, reading each letter is
a bit challenging for me. However, I can almost read car
license plates and I shock several folks around me when I
tell them their car license plate numbers. On cars, one can
easily feel the separation of the various letters. The
surface area of the metal has enough room to permit the
letters to be separated instead of being run together.
Can I possibly make a humble request? Could you please play
with a car's license plate when you have a brief minute?
It's the only way I think you'll make sense of what I'm
trying to explain. See why I won't make a good teacher?

Here's how the dictionary defines it:

a printing technique in which a wet ink image is fused by
heat or infrared radiation with a resinous powder to produce
a raised image

Again not so sure I did a good job of explaining, but I
think you get the gist!

I think it does have all of your contacts and your number, which could be one reason, say, if I went back to a CDMA carrier, I'd have to use my LG Revere. I sold my iPhone, but haven't sold the Revere, because it was once dropped in a parking lot, so is a little scratched up, but it would work.

What I don't understand is, say if I went to another GSM provider, would I keep this card from Consumer Cellular? I don't think so. I think I'd have to have a new one issued from a new provider. I don't plan to change, so haven't thought about that.

You may be able to save contacts to the sym card. You can save some information to the card, I don't know what or how much.

Not all phones use sim cards. When I was on Sprint, there was no sim card in my phone. When I got the Nokia and changed to TMobile, I had to buy a sim card. So when I had to get another phone, the TMobile place took the sim card out of the Nokia and put it into the Alcatel I got from them. As for contacts, I had to manually put them into the Alcatel. Carolyn made it sound like it would put all the contacts into the new phone; it doesn't.

A sim card is a tiny card with the code for your phone to work with your specific carrier.

So, say, I decided to bite the bullet, get that shiny Android. Out of the LG comes the sim card, into the maybe LG Moto G it goes, so that it will work with my carrier, my number, all of my contacts. I guess yall get it, contacts are a big deal to me with cell phones.

Thank you of course, for your suggestion. It seems that the service provider is not my question at this point. The actual phone I am going to purchase is my real problem.

What is a SIM card and when, how, and why do I want one?

Thank you.

Okay, but I don’t think the person is here. I think Virgin Mobile was mentioned. Pam.

Hello I have used consumer cellular for 5 years now and have had no trouble with them and you can use any kind of phone that will take an at&t sim card either full size or micro or Nano because there sim cards are 3 in one so give them a call and check them out.

You can always switch to another provider, Consumer Cellular has some great plans. You can purchase a phone from them or use your own. They use the AT&T towers so the coverage is really good. No contract involved.

Hi all, I hope this question is OK for this list:

My cell phone service provider (Virgin Mobile) has "retired" my phone type and the "pay as you go" plan we had. Now we're forced to buy a smarter phone and a more expensive plan. All because I missplaced my phone. It's gonna be an inexpensive Android; just have to figure out which of the cheapest I can work.

Can anyone suggest which of the cheaper Androids can best be used by a total?

Up until now, I've ignored all messages about smart phones; and now I'm sorry I have.

So I'm dragged, kicking and screaming, into the modern day. Thanks to anyone who can suggest

I have 1 TB on my computer. That is not a whole lot nowadays, for a computer, that is, for a phone? Wow!

I wouldn't even begin to know what to do with that much space, regardless of whether it was on a phone, a computer, or an external drive! *smile*

As for the differences between European and American phones, I was referring to the bands used for GSM. You could probably go between the two continents with a quad-band phone, but not a dual-band one.

Ileni, I don't know if phones out of Germany get locked to specific
carriers in that country. As for me, I always buy UNLOCKED phones; as
such, my phones travel the world with me and even in Frankfurt, I had
NO PROBLEMS broadcasting off a phone I tied to my belt as I alighted
from the Wide Body 767!

And, yes, without a doubt, phones for U.S. markets MUST MEET a number
of specifications; it's a reason why sometimes we hardly get enough
for our bucks! Example: If I were in South Korea, I can get a
Samsung S8 with 128GB internal storage space and I can still stick in
an SD card for additional storage expansion. I don't have such a
luxury right here at home, at least not yet! Well, may be with the
iPhone? I don't fish in Apple land, so there goes my luck!

If I get a Shiny Android toy with that much internal storage space,
honestly, I won't bother about getting a new toy phone for a long,
long time.

Whilst at it, how about sharing my thoughts on my ideal Shiny Android
phone toy? 1TB or more internal storage space, 8GB RAM or more, and a
slot for up to 2TB SD Card, 5,000 or more mAh battery, removable
preferred! If it's boot loader is locked, I shall ROOT it so I can
always get all updates to the OS installing a different ROM. Then I
won't need another toy for the rest of life! I'll only remember to
tell everyone to make sure my phone is in my pocket or next to my
pillow as I lay in my casket; that way, if I need some French fries, I
can grab it and make a quick call to someone who'd consider bringing
some by and lay them on my tombstone!
