Michael asked:

"What is the Kapsys?"

Capsys is the name of a French company that manufactures the
SmartVision Phone specifically for the blind/visually
impaired. The phone comes with a regular keypad and runs on
the Android OS! I believe its battery is removable; its
battery is a PALTRY (in my view) 2,700 mAh, which for
someone like me, will probably run out or die between my
home and the bus stop, <yikes!>

It's price is right around $900! This for me is a HEFTY
PRICE to pay for a phone that DOES NOT even come anywhere
close to meeting FLAGSHIP specs. You won't find it in a
regular phone store; as such, should you have problems with
it after purchase, you'll have to send it back to the
reseller here in the U.S. I think I heard some where that a
company based in Oregon resells this phone. Otherwise, the
phone, for the most part, is hardly ever available in the
U.S. I don't recall how much internal storage it has, but
it does come with an SD card slot.

Please consider checking more info on this device via
Google. Much of what I wrote here comes from my previous
readings on or about the device. I haven't done any
additional follow-up because the phone DOES NOT, and WON'T
EVER MEET, the kind and type of specs I look for on a
smartphone. besides, I always buy a FLAGSHIP device in the
mainstream and the Capsys SmartVision offering IS NOT in the
mainstream.

Sincerely,
Olusegun

Oh yes, it would work on your Trek. As long as you were just listening, but even if you were using the Trek, of course it would work, and you would not have a wire. Mine is very nice, has very high quality sound, which means a lot to me with my hearing aids.

Re: flip phone with accessible texting feature

Bob, mine has two ears and a mike, kind of like a set a switchboard operator would use. We got it off the net for $31. It has a fine sound. I could get clothes out of the dryer and put them away, while all the while talking to someone and my phone laying on the kitchen table. I don't have the iPhone any more, but keep the battery charged in the Blue Tooth, so if I get a Blue Tooth capable phone again, I could use it.

Best regards,

Carolyn

The Kapsys is a smart phone that has a regular 12-key telephone dial, as well as arrows and a confirm button in the middle of them. I am not sure what other buttons it has.

Also, you can screen navigate or use speech recognition. Of course, being a smart phone, it has text to speech.

That is what I want.

There is a company in Oregon selling the Kapsys now, got to stop some spending for a while, if I think I want to try to get it.

That Samsung Folder 2 was only 269 dollars, but would not operate Speech to Text - just off the boat from somewhere.

Hi group,

A short while ago, I recall that someone posted a thread
that had to do with a flip phone that had an accessible
texting feature. I believe it was a Huawei phone, but I
cannot find or remember the model number nor the price.
Could someone be so kind as to refresh my memory for me? I
appreciate it greatly.

Re: flip phone with accessible texting feature

Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc.

Michael asked:

"What is the Kapsys?"

Capsys is the name of a French company that manufactures the SmartVision
Phone specifically for the blind/visually impaired. The phone comes with a
regular keypad and runs on the Android OS! I believe its battery is
removable; its battery is a PALTRY (in my view) 2,700 mAh, which for someone
like me, will probably run out or die between my home and the bus stop,
<yikes!>

It's price is right around $900! This for me is a HEFTY PRICE to pay for a
phone that DOES NOT even come anywhere close to meeting FLAGSHIP specs. You
won't find it in a regular phone store; as such, should you have problems
with it after purchase, you'll have to send it back to the reseller here in
the U.S. I think I heard some where that a company based in Oregon resells
this phone. Otherwise, the phone, for the most part, is hardly ever
available in the U.S. I don't recall how much internal storage it has, but
it does come with an SD card slot.

Please consider checking more info on this device via Google. Much of what
I wrote here comes from my previous readings on or about the device. I
haven't done any additional follow-up because the phone DOES NOT, and WON'T
EVER MEET, the kind and type of specs I look for on a smartphone. besides,
I always buy a FLAGSHIP device in the mainstream and the Capsys SmartVision
offering IS NOT in the mainstream.

Sincerely,
Olusegun

FYI - resolution for talking insulin pumps I have requested

Keith S

Hello everyone. I took the effort to contact the National Federation for the Blind of Kentucky to request that there be some effort into convincing the insulin pump companies who produce insulin pumps for diabetic insulin therapy to make their pumps more accessible for the blind. The newest insulin pump from one of the companies is going completely touch screen. While many of you might be able to use smart phones with some degree of success, I have not been able to make any use of the one I was given (due to neurological damage to my fingers from the disease). I was contacted back within 3 days by a representative from the NFB Kentucky branch and he drafted a resolution to present to the USA's collecctive body in Orlando this July. This is not a definite assurance that the companies will produce any sort of talking insulin pump, but it is an effort to get something on the market, either an external synthesizer or a built in speech system )much like I-phones and Android phones have). I have tried tackling this issue on my own and the pump companies always say the same thing "We'll consider it for our next release). Over the past 15 years, since I started this effort, I believe they are taking steps backwards in their designs. Just wanted to let you all know, if you or a loved one or friend has diabetes and is either visually impaired or totally blind, something is being attempted to deal with this outstanding issue with insulin pumps and the use by blind diabetics.

I use the Voyager Pro model of Plantronics ear set. It has a 7 hr talk
time and noise cancellation. If yours is a Plantronics model with 11
hrs, you may be disappointed because it does not have noise
cancellation. I bought it for its extended battery for a fishing trip.
I was unable to be heard in a noisy bar or out on a relatively quiet
boat.

Hi Donald,

Interesting that you would ask about this.  The folks at Windows Weekly had no clue as to why everyone got this update.  Microsoft seemed to have little to say about this one.

I speculate that there was an immediate security issue that needed to be rolled out yesterday and they weren't going to bother with a slow roll out but felt it necessary to take prompt action asap.  But, I stress that this is mere speculation on my part.

Silly question, since I don't remember much aboot flip
phones, since it's been 18 years since I've had one, but can
one use an ear piece with a flip phone?

Laz

Sorry Bob, but you'd lose that bet. (smiles) I only sell devices that
I myself use and I've never used one of those single ear Bluetooth
devices so can't even recommend one.

One could connect a Bluetooth headset for hands-free phone conversations.

Re: flip phone with accessible texting feature

Laz

If the phone has Bluetooth and the earpiece does as well then it
should pair up with it.
