Re: Safe To Remove Hardware Message

Hi Mike,
I’m sorry, but I get that same problem. It is like Jaws not starting at the logon screen for me, I tried to repair Jaws twice, but both times I got an error message stating that the repair could not be completed. I called Freedom Scientific, and I was told that the best thing I could do was to uninstall Jaws completely and then reinstall it. It still does not start at logon for me. I believe that Freedom Scientific (VFO) is too busy trying to repair and update the bigger problems, and the smaller stuff never gets addressed. It’s the typical result of becoming a corporate entity. The stock holders are the most important people to please.

Hi All,
Running Widows 10 Pro Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.81) with Jaws 16 thru J2018 latest. Whenever I want to eject / remove an external harddrive I click on the system tray icon, choose the device, and press enter on it, but Jaws doesn't report the following:
Safe To Remove Hardware: The ’USB Mass Storage Device’ device can now be safely removed from the computer.
Can anyone tell me how to get Jaws to report the message above? Or, what setting is supposed to be activated to make Jaws report the message above? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks mooy moocho.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

New NoScript add-on layout with Firefox 60
Cristóbal
Hello list, So, I’ve been playing with Firefox 60 and the latest JFW 2018put out this month. And I’m noticing that with the NoScript extension, now instead of the various options to disable or enable the different scripts and whatnot on pages, NoScript now presents you with a webpage with checkboxes instead of the context menu where you can arrow into the submenu with the different listed scripts. I’m finding the new layout to be more tedious and not as easy to get around and was wondering if there was a way to get the old context submenu layout back or if this is how it is now? I poked around in the NoScript options and didn’t find anything that jumped out to get the old layout back. Thanks, Cristobal

Re: Safe To Remove Hardware Message
Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>
Hi Again All,
Okay, by doing the following Jaws will report the safe to
remove message, although not consistently. I knew I had a note about this
somewhere because this also happens in Widows 7, and this is how I fixed it in
Widows 10:
1. Windows key + I, to open Settings, Navigate to
Personalization, and press enter.
2. Go to, Taskbar, press enter, tab to, Notification Area, Select which icons appear on the taskbar Link, and press enter. 3. Tab to, Windows host process (Rundll32) Button, press the spacebar to check this option, and you should now hear Jaws report it's safe to remove.... after pressing enter on a drive from the Safely Remove Hardware icon. Please let me know if the steps work for anyone
else. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. In the end you have to ignore everything, & click I agree.

Re: Android? anyone
Jim Wohlgamuth
Sorry about the delayed reply, but I have no idea of what you are talking about. I use my Galaxy S7 for all that you mentioned and a whole lot more and as far as having to learn an entire new system I went from the iPhone 4s to a Galaxy S5 and really didn't notice a great deal of difference aside fro learning some new gestures. As I stated before I had 2 iPhones and will soon be getting my third Android. Not saying that I will never go back to Apple, but they will have to do something more than spectacular to bring me back. Again sorry about the late response. Have A Great Day1 de <KF8LT><Jim Wohlgamuth><wohlggie@...>.

With the new beta, on my iPhone, once I get a show playing on DirectvNow, I can't stop it and Voiceover does work unless I get out of the app. But as soon as I go back in, I'm still where the video was and there is no way to give out of it without totally shutting the phone down and restaring.
I am placed back into the video. But this time, I can go to the
guide. But, I dare not play a show because I'm stuck again with
the same dilemma. Any thoughts?

Jessica,
The network names are listed across in the top row of the Sling TV Guide. The programs available for each network are listed below that. Sling is hard to figure out at first, but becomes easier to use once you have the layout down. Sling TV support can help you to understand this layout better. The big problem that I had with Sling was the quality of the stream.

Hi: I started messing around with Sling TV, Youtube TV, and live TV on Hulu. I am having trouble getting past the initial screen on Youtube TV app on Apple TV; I can click on "Already a Member?", but can't move around the screen after that; it just say "Back" and takes me to the first screen again pressing on it. Sling TV does not appear to tell the channels in the guide section. Hulu seems to work OK, but there was some overlapping of sound a couple times while watching it last night... Any suggestions? I'm also going to call and ask if AT&T would be willing to give me a discount in order to keep my business since I can't fully access the Direct TV Now app... Jessica

Re: How to get cookies off SS
Gene
The cookie settings are probably the same or
similar in my version of Internet Explorer than in the latest one, but since I
don't use it and never updated it, I'll wait to see what others say. If
you haven't done so, I think the important change you should make is to make
Internet Explorer not accept third party cookies. those are almost always
tracking or advertising cookies and are not placed on your machine by the actual
site you are working with. I don't consider cookies placed on your machine
by actual sites you go to to be worth worrying about for the most part and there
is nothing, as far as I can see, about Send Space's privacy policy that is
materially different than a lot of sites on the Internet. if you are
worried about that site, you should be worried about most sites. If you
are worried about sites in general, getting some sort of cookie manager or
setting Internet Explorer not to allow any cookies, then adding cookies using
the exceptions feature would be the thing to do for sites where you want to
allow fcookies.
That's what I do. I'm not particularly
concerned about allowing first party cookies but I'd rather only have cookies I
want on my machine. I consider this to be more a matter of preference than
a matter of more than a small amount of importance. .
Some sites won't give you access if their cookies
are blocked. Not third party cookies, there first party cookies. If
I can't use a site, I allow it. If not having a cookie on a site I log
into means I have to manually log in every time I go to the site, I allow it
unless I have some reason to believe the site is abusing its use of cookies,
such as something I've read or good information from elsewhere. I don't
check on sites in general. I usually just allow the cookies using the
exceptions list. A lot of sites use cookies to recognize you and to keep
you from having to log in every time you go to the site.
I think this question should be discussed more so that
people who are concerned will know what options they have and what options make
sense to implement, given there level of worry and the effects the choices may
have in terms of convenience.
I believe that first party cookies are among the least
matters of concern as far as privacy is concerned.

Some not-so-fun with Windows10 sound drivers
Jeremy <icu8it2@...>
Hey, :)
Probably wont be useful to everyone using 10, but hopefully it's still worth mentioning and helpful to those who are who have the same types of issues with sound and drivers as I've been tinkering with. So basically this laptop came with the Realtek High-definition software/drivers and I wished to replace them and use the standard Intel High-definition drivers instead. Not only are the standard Intel High-definition drivers slightly more responsive when plugging and unplugging headphones from the port, they allow you more control over what you wish the microphone part of the combo jack to do when a headset with a built-in Microphone is connected. As I wished to use the internal microphones that are built into the laptop and not the ones as part of any headset and since the Realtek drivers do not give you this option at all, they needed to go and not be reinstalled. Several things I read said that you could tell Windows10 to not automatically update drivers as part of the Windows updates but this never worked for keeping them from being reinstalled on me rebooting the computer and reconnecting to my Wifi, the driver would just pop back down through Windows update again. There was also a tool that I found on Microsoft's pages that allow you to select updates and hide them, similar to how you could deselect updates to not be installed in 7, but even after I selected the Realtek driver, it would still install a part of the software and end up in a situation where it was telling me I always had an update that needed to be installed after a restart and I would lose functionality of the Intel High-definition driver. So far what I've found that works is to remove the Realtek driver from device manager and then uninstall the software as normal. When it tells you that you need to reboot the computer, select no and then navigate to the Realtek directory in C:\program files and right click it or press the applications key to bring up the menu. Head to properties and under the security tab you need to completely deny all permissions for the system user, but make sure you're denying them for Realtek. lol Basically it keeps what ever is trying to reinstall the software from doing so, and the better driver will stay installed on restarting. Yay! I'm really only posting this as I've spent quite a bit of time and about 20 or 30 restarts trying to figure this out and stumbled across this solution on reddit and it actually worked so wanted to share. It's a crappy hacky workaround and there might be something else that works too, but it's working great for me so far. As with most combo jacks that I've had on Windows laptops, my previous Lenovo included, the Microphone part of the jack sounds absolutely terrible so this has saved my bacon and I get to use the much nicer-sounding internals. woot!!! Hope someone finds this helpful. :) Take care.
