Re: configuring my new laptop with my hip wireless printer

Troy Burnham

I think it's a deskjet printer.

After posting to the list last night I realized that I should look on hp.com, and I found some drivers and installed them but then I got side-tracked so I'm not sure if the drivers ever got completely installed and I haven't had a chance to see if I can access the printer from this machine or not yet.  I assume that the drivers are installed because the last thing I remember is being asked if I needed to buy ink.

I also gave the wrong model number last night, I said it was an hp 3930 but it's an hp 3830.  The drivers I installed were for the 3830, but my only sighted help was busy doing something else at the time so I just hope I installed the correct drivers.  What I installed was for an all in one printer, and I thinnk we can both fax and make copies with this printer but I'm not sure.

I explained the limitations of ink jet printers, was able to afford a laser for her. The laser started smoking one day, I told her to just unplug it from the wall, likely everything would be OK.

She is blind, freaks out, calls the Fire Department that responds with screaming sirens, clanging bells and flashing lights, unplugs the printer for her and all is well.

Ink jet printers should never be used to print a cheque or contract as the ink can smudge with a sweaty hand. Dishonest people can easily change the amount the cheque you wrote for them. Lasers produce smudge-free, permanent, images.

I am lucky in that I have a color, duplex, laser printer. Do 99% of my printing in black, however, can print an important word in red so it jumps off the page it stands out so well?

Hi all,

How do I make my new laptop work with my wireless printer? It is an hp model 3930 printer, and I have had it for a while and I do not remember what I did to make my previous laptop work with it. I also do not know where the book that would have come with the printer is anymore.

I googled this and unless I just did not look far enough I did not find anything that helped me.

Thanks.

wow. So grid view for windows kind of reminds me of list view for mac, where all the items are in alphabetical order, but it doesn't start with the folders and end with the files.

Hi Joanne,

This is my observation when it comes to grid and list view.

I use grid view when I am in Dropbox and list view for most other things. In list view, all the folders are in alphabetical order at the top and the files are in alphabetical order after the folders.

In grid view, they are in alphabetical order, but folders and files are not separate. In Other words, the item at the top of the list may be a folder, after that a file, then another file, then three folders, another file, etc. Everything is in alphabetical order, just not separated as to files and folders.

If you have extensions showing, it is easy to tell them apart because files will show an extention and folders will have only a name. You access the folder contents the same as you usually do, but if you have files and folders inside the original folder in grid view, they will also show up in grid view, at least mine do.

I can't define Grid View but, I believe it's something like Tile View.  Whenever I'm on a website that gives me the option I always select the List view as well, it just makes navigation a more positive movement.

I like list views for most things, but when downloading from open drive I wonder if grid view might be easier or does it make any difference as to the amount of items seen per page? I just don't know what grid view is, so it may not be as easy as list view but thought I'd ask.

Re: fixing firefox

I'm not sure what happened but it sounds as though somehow, the allow accessibility is turned off.  I don't recall the exact name.  If someone doesn't tell you how to find it, I can check my Firefox.  This is a perfect example of why I say that people should use the portable version of Firefox.  it does everything the installed version does and you can keep a backup copy.  If something happens to the copy you are using, you can just copy and paste the backup copy to the location where you have the copy that you use.  You would delete the copy you are using, then place a copy of the backup version in the same location.

You won't have to worry about how to correct problems because you can just replace the problem version with a version that works correctly.

You are more than welcome.  I hope this helps you be able to use it more efficiently.  No, I have never had to log in again.  My settings are saved so when I open Uber, I can just start getting my trips scheduled.  I haven't heard of this before and I have no idea who you could contact.  The only thing I can suggest is getting someone who is sighted to check it out for you and maybe delete the App and then log in again and have them help you save everything.  You should be able to start getting rides as soon as you open it.  Let me know how the dictating feature works for you.  It's a great service but a bit expensive.  Take care and good luck.

Hi Vicky:

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Uber.  I use it occasionally and it's been about a year.  I have had no trouble using it at all.  I had someone set it up for me and ever since then, it has worked perfectly.  What I do is open the app, and it will say where to and I hit dictate and say where I'm going and you basically have to say the address and the town it's in because there may be several streets with the same name and after that, you swipe over until it

says something like coming from and you can automatically put your home address in there and it will say home but sometimes, I have had to put other address in and it's the same format and then you swipe over and select Uber X or Xl and after that, you hit request Uber and it will say finding nearby drivers.  I hope this helps.  I have found that Lyft is more accessible because they have an easier format to contact their drivers.  I have trouble contacting Uber drivers.  Let me know if you have anymore questions.

If you have gotten this to work for you and you are dependent on Voiceover to use it, would you very kindly help me out?

Shelly,

After you install JAWS 2019 from your CD you will be asked to restart your computer. This step is necessary to ensure that JAWS 2019 will function properly.

After the computer restarts JAWS 2019 should start speaking and will open up a program called the JAWS startup wizard. This is a series of dialog boxes which will allow you to choose whether you want JAWS to start speaking at startup. I believe the program automatically is set to do this but I would check the options in this dialog to ensure that automatic startup options are enabled.

As for merging your JAWS 2018 settings into JAWS 2019 I'm afraid I haven't worked with the merge utility enough to be able to comment and so I'd prefer that someone else address this question.

I really should have done a better job in processing your last message before I wrote my last response. You said that you received a CD in the mail. Is it the CD for JAWS 2019? If it is and if the process of downloading a file is too daunting then you could just insert the CD into your computer's CD drive and install JAWS 2019 from that disk. However, my guess is that the CD may contain a slightly older version of JAWS 2019 which was released in October and the link that I pointed to in my last message contains a more recent version of 2019 which was released in December. If you feel that you're able to download and install the file from Freedom Scientific's Web site it might be better to do that since you'll be starting out with the very latest version.
