Re: Thoughts on using groups.io Wiki to post resources

I like the idea of having a copy of the latest file in the files section as well. While it may not be updated as frequently as the Wiki page would, it'd still be a possible offline resource who don't always want to remain connected to peruse it.

I think having a link to the wiki would be a great idea and less work for you at the same time. The Win 10 list is using it and works great. sometimes an email can get lost in the shuffle.

Not really paying attention, I never noticed that groups.io has a Wiki page for each group.  I'm wondering if I should just use the Wiki to post the list of resources and freeware instead of sending out scheduled reminders to the group?  Then I could just add a link to the Wiki in the message footers as a reminder.  Or would sending it directly to the group be better?  Any thoughts?

Re: Did a clean install of Win 10 without upgrading

Interesting that you did not need your product key when installing it in a dual boot configuration.  Perhaps it simply detects that there is an existing qualifying Windows installation on the system and allows it based on this fact.

Hi,

I have two machines running Windows 10. Both are 64 bit. One was upgraded from Windows 7 and one from windows 8.1 successfully several months ago. While the one machine updated to the latest build of Windows 10, the machine that I upgraded from Windows 7 keeps saying I have the latest version of Windows 10 even though I can clearly see in system info that I did not download the newest update that came out like yesterday. Is that normal or is there a way to force an update when it says I have the latest update when I manually check for updates?

Re: Question for anyone using window eyes 8.4

Gene

It appears that the sounds you are discussing are the progress indicator sounds that Window-eyes has on by default.  I haven't used Window-eyes to any extent for years and I don't recall how you turn those sounds off.  My comments are intended to suggest and clarify what the problem may be so that those who know how to adjust the progress sounds might send information to the list.

As far as the page reloading is concerned, that can be either stopped or reduced by changing a Window-eyes setting but again, it's been years since I worked with that setting.
the passage of time in addition to my not having used Window-eyes as my main screen-reader mean that I can clarify what some problems may be but I don't remember the specific commands to deal with them.

Also, Firefox has a setting to stop pages from automatically reloading or redirecting.  It may be better to use that command when using Firefox rather than using the Window-eyes command.

Re: How and where do I turn on my gps on my IPhone 6?

gPs is already turn on . You don't have to turn it on! Now you might need to
let BSQ or whatever GPS app to use your location and use it in the
background as well. But that is done in the app usually when you first open
it up it will asked for permission for tracking your location. If not it can
be turn on in settings and privacy . HTH

Hi Carlos and others,

Groups.IO chief Mark has just pushed a change to list configuration dealing with wikis. Starting today, you’ll be able to let the public view wikis (if implemented) and let subscribers edit pages (also, Groups.IO supports Google and Facebook login).

Unfortunately, this is my own fault for not initially thinking of the poll so everyone is catching up and responding to the original message.

So why don't we try to do that, instead of replying to all these messages and having a big fat discussion. If anybody needs help I am available for life phone calls that the information below.

Hello,
No. Only the owner's added, pretty much. And a link to unsubscribe, but again, that requires log in.

I added the addresses for the chat group to the footers myself as a reminder. For some reason I assumed that the addresses for the main group were automatically included as well. I thought I remembered seeing them at one point, but I could be wrong.

Hello,
Yes, it would be nice to have the main list, above or below the chat info. I know, some of us can modify the address, however, not everyone can.

Well, lots of us it is a pain as most of us cannot remember their password and I think you have to log in? I know when I go no mail and have to go up there 99 percent of the time I don't know my password and have to jump through all kind of loops . If I knew how to go no mail by sending an email from my mail client like you would do to unsubscribe or subscribe I would do it that way. But I don't and when I do I have to go to the site and try to login and it starts all over. JST

Re: How and where do I turn on my gps on my IPhone 6?

ratshtron <northstar1950@...>

on your first page, you should have maps on the top line third applet. double tap on that and that will open the google maps. you may need to turn tracking on but follow the prompts. i also had to find where to turn voice so i could hear turn by turn instrucions.

Hi Everyone,

Here are some email commands I got from the mod Gene.

I just keep these commands on my computer, and refer back to them as needed.

Here is a list of the available e-mail commands:

To receive message digests instead of individual messages send an email to:

TechTalk+digest@groups.io

To receive individual messages instead of digests, send an email to:

TechTalk+single@groups.io

To stop receiving messages via email (you may still read messages on the Web),send an email to:

TechTalk+nomail@groups.io

Contacting The Group Owner

To contact the owners of this group, send an email to:

TechTalk+owner@groups.io

Thank you Gene,

Hope this helps.

Janet

I don't have an account either and try to keep as few accounts onnline as I can.  My vote is to send them directly to the list once a month perhaps.
