Hi All,
A friend is running Windows 7 Home 32 bit, Jaws 13, Openbook 9 and an Epson Perfection V39 flatbed scanner. When he gives the command to scan a document the scanner starts, but it won't stop and keeps making a ding sound every few seconds while scanning! You have to press the spacebar to interrupt / stop the scan or it'll never stop. Also, it never acquires any text for Openbook to read. I don't have much experience with diagnosing scanners especially through a tandem session, so I don't have a clue as to why this behavior is happening. If anyone knows why this is happening, would you please enlighten me? All help will be greatly appreciated and graciously accepted. Thank y'all very much.

You can choose who will see (or not see) your post, by going to the privacy, just below the edit field where you write your post. For what you are intending, you'll need of a privacy level called "friends, except...", which will do just it. When you select this privacy level, you'll need to enter the name(s) that you want to be on your "blacklist". They then will still be your friends but won't see what you're posting. Re: Missing UnZip Utility
Gene
Isn't there a 7zip submenu in the context
menu? Also, I don't know why you lost the Windows method. The player
isn't, as far as I know, supposed to remove it. Maybe there is a choice
you can make during installation to cause this not to happen. It shouldn't
happen by default, but it did in your case. You may not want or need to
get the Windows system back. Open the context menu when you are on the
filename and look for the 7zip submenu.
But this is an excellent illustration of why you
should have System Restore working unless you use another reversion program or
back up using images.
I don't know what you do but one important reason
Microsoft made system restore available is to undo problems like this related to
installing and uninstalling a program.

I just installed VLC Media Player on a 64 Bit Win 7 System. After doing so, I have lost my ability to unzip Books from NLS. Normally I open the Downloads folder, and Arrow down to the newly downloaded book. I then Press Shit-F10. I once could find a choice in this Menu that would allow me to Extract files from any Zip file. This Extract choice is now missing. I figured I would just download the Seven Zip program, and so installed it. But, after the install of Seven Zip, there is no Choice in the Shift-F10 Menu. And after looking under all Menus, there is no utility to unzip anything. Anyone know what is going on? Grumpy Dave

Re: Openbook 9 and a Epson Scanner
Gene
It's probably Openbook that is making the sound,
but not being able to hear the sound, I don't know that. Openbook makes a
repeated sound by default when scanning.
I'm not sure what the problem is but is version 9
of Openbook being used? I'd have to look in the settings to find how to
select the scanner being used. See if there are multiple choices for the
scanner, if your friend knows how to check and try others. Sometimes there
are choices such as unknown twain with and then the name of the scanner.
There may be one or two others for the same scanner.
If that doesn't help, I don't think I have other
suggestions. If you need to know how to find the selections, ask
here.

Re: Saving An Email With Outlook 2010 Question Please.
Gene
I very much doubt it. Here are
suggestions.
You should be able to reply to the saved message,
add text, then save it as a draft. Or you can send it to yourself, which
may be necessary if you want to save it as you do a received
message.
Of course, if you save it as a
text message, you can use Notepad to add or delete whatever you want but I have
never heard of an e-mail message, in an e-mail format as being anything other
than read only.
You can open the current message
in the e-mail program, then save it as a text message and alter the text
version.

Here's something you can try doing to stop it from happening Go to Tools > Options From there you should find something that on my side, using Thunderbird in Portuguese, is called "aparências", wich should be translated as "appearance" or something like that. If you find this option, tab until "advanced" and press spacebar. Tab until the combobox about text codification, then both on the first and on the second one, choose "UTF-8". Tab and check the option to use the default text codification when possible. After you have done all of this, OK it to exit this dialog and see itf it changes anything. P.S.: I'm sure certain terms I used here won't match with the English ones, but I don't know how to change the Thunderbird's language so I can't be of more help.
