AH, but very different than the blanket statement of how you have to go in person, etc .

This may be true, but if you are opening a bank account for the very first time, and you are going to fund it with cash, you still have to visit a branch in person to make the deposit. You can't very well send cash through the mail. Opening an account online only works if you can transfer funds to it electronically from another financial institution. Besides, Capital One does not have any branches in the UK, and Royal Bank of Scotland requires visiting a branch in person to open an account:

Not true. Just this month, I opened an online checking account through Capital One. All on my iPhone. It took less than 10 minutes.
Earlier, someone asserted that if you wanted to open a joint account, you’d have to physically go into a bank. Also not true. There are many online banking options now. I can add my wife to this checking account as well Never having to enter any sort of branch. I live on the West Coast and there are no capital one branches anywhere near me. There are no fees associated with this account.

I'm sure if I'm wrong, somebody will correct me. But as far as I know, no matter what you want to set up, you would have to go in person to the bank and show ID and sign papers. They want to know you are real. Then after that, you can set up to bank wherever you want to bank. Pam.

hi again Brian,
As I tried to explain in an earlier post, that I would find it very
difficult to personally visit a bank branch on the high street.
Is home banking an idea?.
I'm also Interested in credit unions, but would have the same issue,
getting to a branch. Do these credit unions have a telephone system?.

Dear Billy Inglis & List:
Bank of Scotland likely offers Telephone Banking with a live Banker as well as with interactive voice response menus and Webb banking. Ask about prevailing plans, costs Etc. Web banking where you rely on your wife may write cheques or make withdrawals.

This can be important if your wife is having difficulty handling money or is legally incompetent. If she is incompetent, the Procurer Fiscal may be her statutory Trustee or another government official.

Check out Credit Unions, they can be much cheaper than Commercial Banks, give you a vote at their annual membership meeting and you can run for office.

Hi people, I have never had a bank account of my own.
I have always used my wife's account, but now I think it is time to look after my own financial affairs.
So I am wondering what would be the best road for me to go down.
Would a joint bank account be a good Idea?
As I have never needed to worry about such things before, I do not really know what kind of bank accounts are out there.
Any advice or help with this query would be so helpful indeed.

windows 10 laptop incredibly slow

Keith S

Hi,

I own an HP laptop and am running windows 10 and jaws 2018 on it.

I had  an offer from someone, adam by name, from this list,  to log into my computer to help me with another matter, and even he said, "wow, your computer is incredibly slow".

I ran the task manager, (control, alt, delete, on   the laptop and it hung and then stopped responding 3 times.

the operating system is an update fro windows 7.

I know that HP  installs a bunch of software from their company on all systems they offer.

How can I determine if these garbage probgrams are slowigng down my system.

I am still a newbie when it comes to using both jaws and windows 10, and I am very discouraged in learning the OS and jaws due to the slowness and lag on the system.

I believe the computer is a 4 gig processor and and has 8 gigs of ram on it.

it's almost like trying to run a computer on the bare system requirements to run the OS you are trying to run.

Any help would be greatly apprecated.

I want to learn windows 10 and jaws, but right now, it's like I would be better off actually writing  braille letters and mailing them

Thanks

Keith

Re: Need to no how to disable smart screen in windows10 pro.

Gene

Is your problem with Send Space?  Don't disable a security feature that may save you from problems.  If you are having this problem with Send Space, it is because you are a free user and some of the third party advertising sites are being blocked, and with good reason.  Third party advertising is being used a good deal by hackers to take over the sites and send malicious programs to computers to try to infect them.

Find the download button, open the context menu, and use save target as to download the file.  That will download the file and not expose you to third party advertising.  Save target as works with links.  The download button on Send Space appears to be a button but the underlying code is a link.  So you can use Save Target As.  People are too cavilier about stopping security features, especially in today's environment.

Re: question about next door

Veronica Kirk

I just received a letter from a couple who lives on the street behind ours inviting me to join Next Door. When signing up, there is a code that I must enter to sign up. My sister-in-law is coming over later today to help me with this process.

How do you verify your account?

I would love to see what the fuss is all about, but I can't seem to get verified.

From Mack also when in digest version open the thread that interests you, press h that will take you to the start of the first message. using win 7 64 bit and I/e 11. I try to always stay signed in/ after reading a thread I close the window with alt f4. I then choose the option to close current tab. this lands me on the thread I just read and I can continue down the list. I use yahoo mail for this purpose and read the daily posts on the web. I don't choose to use an email client for this purpose. for certain emails, I like the stripped down version of yahoo mail.

Microsoft Exchange down?

Cristóbal

Hello list,

Is anyone else having problems with their exchange accounts this morning?

I’ve got three business Exchange accounts and none seem to be able to connect to the server be it in Outlook, iOS or through the web portal itself. I’ve looked around online and don’t’ seem to find any notice of service interruption.

Hopefully it’s not just me.
