Re: downloading with Chrome

Hi Vicki,

Go to settings within Chrome.

Locate the advance button and press it.

You can then navigate by heading until you get to downloads.

You are looking for a button that says “ask where to save each file before downloading.

Turn it on by pressing enter and that should do it.

I have a question about downloading files with Chrome. In IE, there was the option to "save as" so that I could name the file whatever I wanted before downloading it. Does that option exist somewhere in Chrome? I'm not finding it with JAWS if it does.

Thanks.

Does scanner influence scan results

Fanus

Hello list
I am considering replacing my flatbed scanner due to not finding Windows 10
64 bit drivers. Does the scanner itself have anything to do with the quality
of the scanned document or does it merely take care of getting the image to
the pc. I assume the price would determine how long the scanner would last
but I do not want to lay out a lot of money if the results are not
influenced by the scanner itself. I am sad to have to part from my Epson
perfection 1240U for I scanned thousands of pages over many years.

Ah! ok. then I think it must be after Office 2003 that the .doc format was changed to .docx.  Hard to remember these things since I don't use Office 2007 any more.  Cheers!

Thank you so much for telling me about your experience with this website.  I just may give it a try.  I wasn't sure if it was legitimate so wanted to hear from someone who has done it before. I do have one question.  How do you get the work that they want you to transcribe?  I use Jaws and Thunderbird as my email.  I look forward to your response.

Shelly

I heard about the TranscribeMe site from someone on the NFB Jobs email list who had tried it over a year ago now, and I finally decided to give it a try myself a few months later. I know others are much faster, but I'm really slow at it because I have to pick over everything before submitting my transcribed work, so I'm not making a lot of money at it. But it's a nice way to have some work to do when I want and earn a little extra cash without a lot of hassle, which suits me fine now that I've retired from the prior job I had with the IRS for a little over 29 years.

I'm currently on my Braille Sense U2 Mini, and its older browser won't let me access the site to get the link to the message from the NFB Jobs email list. But the archives for that list are public, and I just checked a day or so ago when on my computer and the message in question was dated, I believe, December 28th of 2017. From my experience with the TranscribeMe web site, the information still seems to be accurate, other than the fact that there were some changes made several months ago, so now the starting pay for general transcription is $15 per audio hour, rather than the $20 mentioned in that message.

Although there were a couple of things that gave me a little trouble on the site, it was pretty much quite accessible. I admit that I haven't actually received any money yet, as I've opted to just let it accumulate in my account until I find I need or want it for something. However, TranscribeMe use Yammer as their communication platform, and lots of the transcribers there do talk about withdrawing and receiving their payments each week, so I'm confident I'll be able to get mine when I'm ready.

Since I'm not an NFB member, I've opted not to post on their jobs list, although I am on the associated chat list that Judy Jones recently created, and I have posted there. I'm also signed up to the chat list associated with this group, should you have additional questions for me. And, if so, I'll try to respond more quickly than I did to this message.

Here's a few other ways to get your word count:
1. Press, CTRL, shift + G.
2. Insert + Pagedown.
3. press, Alt + R, let up then press, W.
Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go Dodgers!

Hi Keryn.  Do you happen to have a later version of MS office installed on your PC, like Office 2016, for example?  It could be, and I am guessing here that  for some reason, the file type for Office 2007, which is .doc is not properly registered by your PC during the installation.  Later versions of Office use the .DOCX file format, so I wonder if there could be some conflict here. Cheers!

Chief Kimsan, I'm interested in chatting with this co-founder. I might be
able to show such a one a thing or two regarding accessibility, may be not
on the computer side of things, but most certainly with respect to Android.

I had done some work with Lyft and now, the Lyft app is a lot more
accessibility than before. There are still a few issues that do need to be
cleaned up, but I am splendidly surprised at the transformation that has
happened to the Lyft app in my coveted Android Land.

If you want to save that playlist, you still have to open Winamp, open the Playlist Editor, then save the playlist by pressing Control plus S anyway, so you might as well just build the whole thing inside of Winamp to begin with. But just like so many other things in Windows, there's more than one way to achieve the same goal/accomplish the same task.

Hi Shelley:

I have been signed up on ‘next door’ for about six months now.  I get email notifications when there is something of interest that has been posted in my neighborhood and a general daily post in the afternoon.

I find that the sight is a bit time-consuming to use, as you have to arrow down quite a bit to get to the pertinent info and also click on other links to see all the related posts to a particular subject, but I do like the fact that there are posts concerning my immediate area.

I have been able to post a few ads to sell things, although, it took some fooling around with things.

All in all, it could definitely use some better accessibility for blind users.

I have not used the Mobil app as yet.
