There is one that synchronizes bookmarks across the browsers it is called Eversync.

https://www.everhelper.me/synchronizer.php

Another bookmark manager is called Linkstash from http://www.linkstash.com

This one saves the links in it’s own database and you launch the link from it’s interface and not from your browsers.  It reminds me of Windows Explorer.

Abby,

I always have more than one browser, so I have started doing a very round about thing.

When I find a page I want to save in Chrome, I copy the URL from the address bar, and just in case I get busy and forget, I paste it into a notepad document with the title of the page.

I go ahead and save it using Chrome, but later I will open up IE and paste the URL of the page into the address bar after pressing control plus O.

I then save it in IE and I have a folder inside my IE favorites folder where all of my webpages are completely organized. This allows me to have it where I want it and when using Chrome, if I want, I can just go to that favorites folder and enter on the page, finding it quite easily.

It sounds complicated, but it is actually very quick to do.

I just read that the issue with Chrome and bookmarks is a JAWS issue, so maybe it will get fixed.

Vicki

This is one thing I don't like about Chrome. There seems to be no control over where bookmarks go when you add them. I no longer bookmark pages. I save them by pressing Control S. This opens the usual save-as dialog, where you can navigate to where you want the file to go. It's saved as an html file that you can open in Chrome by pressing Control O. The down side is that once you've saved the page and opened it in Chrome, there's no way to get a link to that page to include, say, on your blog or website. So, if somebody else has any more brilliant ideas, I'm all ears.

accidental delete of downloads directory, need to restore, urgent!

David Mehler

Hello,

I don't usually cross post, so please forgive this posting.

I need help quite urgently actually. I made a mistake and accidentally
deleted my download directory in my user profile, this is on a win10
pro 64 machine. The download folder was highlighted and I hit delete,
I wanted to delete another folder not downloads so I realized I was on
the wrong folder, hit tab to no or what I thought was no and hit
enter, as I did my machine shut down. It's having a heating problem
that I'm going to partially address today and fully address with a new
case. On reboot I found that download directory was gone. I need to
get it back. It's been quite a while since I've had to do this, help!

Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
Dave.

Hi Carolyn, WI-FI bars and voice signal bars are different, unless you're using WI-FI calling. For a regular cell signal, 5 bars is maximum.

Facebook - Chrome vs Firefox

Hi,
Just now I was testing the m.facebook webpage with Chrome, which isn't my default browser, to see if I could reproduce a certain behavior.
Well, besides the fact that I couldn't reproduce what I was trying, I noticed that Chrome and Firefox behave very differently on the same webpage and thought that I'd ask it here.
Does anyone know why this happens and if is there a way of making Chrome shows the m.facebook site the same way as Firefox shows it?

Cheers,

Re: How do I share a file with Dropbox?

Gene

New main instructions start on new lines.
When using the computer utility, find the file you want to share in the list.
Open the context menu.
Find copy link to clipboard, or some wording like that.
Press enter and after a brief pause, you will hear that the link has been copied.
Paste it into something such as an e-mail message.  The recipient will be able to use the link to download the file.
After you paste it, look at the last character in the link.  It will be a 0.  Change it to a 1.
That will allow for a download just by following the link.  If you leave it as 0, when the link is followed, a web page is opened.  Changing the 0 to a 1 bypasses the web page and starts the download just as any standard download link does.

That is a good diagnostic. This also happens at the Senior Center, but they also are in a low place with woods in the back. I believe my better signal could be here at my computer between my router and an outside window. I don't think the router has anything to do with it though, sense I haven't set up yet for Wi-Fi. Like Pam, I can call from the house phone we have, and my phone will ring.

Best regards,

Carolyn

Three bars is not a marginal signal. I don't know how many bars your phone has, mine has five as a maximum. Whatever the case, three bars is not a low signal. You aren't using Wi-Fi so the router is irrelevant. The question is, where are you in the house when you miss a call? What is the signal strength there? I'm very doubtful signal strength is the problem, especially after you said you are receiving a three bar signal in a certain room. But if you don't know what room you miss calls in, go into every room and check the signal strength.

Is this happening with all incoming calls? The reason I ask, is because some robocall companies have figured out how to make the call go straight to voicemail. Also, how's the reception where you live? Not having service can cause the phone to send calls to voicemail.

Thank you for giving me this command.  I will use it if I have to.  Regarding Duolingo, I had to log in again since I was using a new browser.  I guess whenever you go to websites and you are using a different browser, it requires you to log in.  If I have anymore trouble with any  website, I will try turning off the cursor.

Thank you so much for your comments and suggestions on this matter.  I planned on using chrome again to see if Facebook works any better and if it doesn't, then I will go back to using internet explorer.  I also thought about using Firefox if it doesn't work well with chrome.  I also heard it was good to have several browsers on the computer.  I will keep my options open.

Here are my general thoughts on your comments.

Usually, pages are either identical or nearly identical.  You may be working with specific pages that aren't for some reason.  The thing to keep in mind is that you don't have to completely stop using a browser.  If you find that a site works better enough with Internet Explorer to keep using it, you may do so.  There will be some risk using Internet Explorer even on a small number of sites after it loses support next January.  It will be better to use a browser that is supported.  But you may want to take the risk if a site works better enough in Internet Explorer to be significant.

For now, you have a lot of time to try Chrome and you may wish to try Firefox as well.  You may like one more or you may find that one works with Facebook and the current site you are asking about better.

From a security standpoint, the best thing to do is try Firefox on sites where Chrome doesn't work well if you want to use Chrome as your main browser, and then use Internet Explorer if Firefox doesn't work well either.

You may find only two or three sites that you want to use that work better enough to matter with Internet Explorer compared with Chrome or Firefox.  If that is the case, you can ask on list for people's opinions about whether it is worth trying Firefox or just using Internet Explorer on those sites.

If you use many web sites, its worth having two supported browsers because you never know when a site won't work well with one browser and better or much better with another.  And if you use enough web sites. you will find sites that work better in Chrome than in Internet Explorer as well.  It’s a good idea to have two or three browsers on a machine as a blind user unless you use the Internet in too limited a way to have such problems to any extent.
