If you use numpad 2 be sure that the numlock is off.
I tend to use the laptop keyboard setting with NVDA.

Vicky are you getting the information from the NVDA help menu?

Re: Looking for a person who uses both Jaws and NVDA?

Use the numpad key and down arrow on the main keyboard.

The numpad doesn't do anything in NVDA it does in JAWS.  It is used for screen review and for functions like the equivalent of the JAWS cursor.  Use standard Windows navigation commands.

I'm not saying the following to seem incredulous or dismissive, but you have made a number of statements that are very difficult to believe and I'm not helping you unless I comment on them.

When I used the guide many years ago that error wasn't present.  I find it very hard to believe that a properly written section of the Guide in the help section would have changed and now contain such errors.

There is a document for those transitioning from JAWS to NVDA, which I haven't looked at much.  While it may contain such an error, again I find it hard to believe that it has been available for a number of years and no such complaint has appeared on the JAWS' users' list.  So I want to be sure what you are using and how you are getting to it.

Tab doesn't do what you say.  Of course, some sort of malfunction can't be ruled out but it is very unlikely that a malfunction of that type would have occurred.  What is more likely is something like that you enabled the caps lock to work as an NVDA key and are using that along with the down arrow key on the main keyboard.  That will start read to end, and I find that much more convenient than using numpad insert down arrow.  You can also use the main keyboard insert as well but again, I find caps lock down arrow to be much more convenient.

Re: you tube downloader

Has the person tried downloading the file as a wave file using Ponce?  The program presets and limits MP3 downloads to an unacceptably low bit rate, for anyone who wants more than mediocre quality MP3 files.  But I tried downloading a file as a wave file and it sounded fine.  the person could download the file, then convert it to MP3 using a conversion program where he can set his/her own parameters.  It appears to me that the developer of the program, chose to simplify it to the point where the quality of the program is significantly degraded.  But that is a way around the problem.

Importing QRead 3.1 bookmarks and books into QRead 3.21

Cristóbal

Hello list,

So recently, I noticed that there was an update to QRead 3.1.

I downloaded the new portable Version 3.21 to my Google Drive folder to use as this allows me to maintain synchronicity across my different computers (reading position, library, bookmarks, etc.).

My question is, how do I go about bringing my various bookmarks and titles I’m currently reading in V 3.1 to V 3.21? There are a bunch of files and folder in the 3.1 folder and I’m guessing it’s a question of copying and pasting certain ones from one folder to the updated folder version, but I don’t know which ones those would be.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: urgent. I can't read my Amtrak ticket.

Blaster

I'm glad it worked and you got that figured out in time.
As far as setting Internet Explorer to open all of your attachments,
Normally, the default app settings area is where you set the
applications to do what you want them to do, but Internet Explorer
isn't listed as an option for viewing photos in this area, so you'll
need to set this manually.

If you used the first method I posted to open your photo, that is, by
finding the photo in the file explorer and using the application key
to select it with the "open with" option, then this will be very easy.

In that same "open with" menu, at the bottom, is a selection titled
"choose another app".

Press the enter key on that and you'll get a new window.

There will be a list box with some available programs to open that
file, including Internet Explorer.

Use the up or down arrows to find Internet Explorer, but don't press
the enter key on it.

Instead, Use the tab key to find a checkbox that says "Always use this
app to open ..." and press the spacebar to check that box.

Then tab to the OK button and press the enter key. This will open the
program with the file loaded and remember that anytime it is asked to
open a file with the same file extension, it will open it in Internet
Explorer.

If you receive photos in mixed file types, like .GIF, .JPG, .PNG,
then you will need to do this for each one individually as needed.

Here's another quick option for you.

Open Internet Explorer.

Press the alt key and tap the letter F key to open the file menu.

Arrow down to the selection titled open and press the enter key.

Tab over to the browse button and press the enter key.

Tab once to the files of type drop down menu and press the alt key and
the down arrow key to open the menu.

Select view Images option and press the enter key.

Press the shift key and tap the tab key to jump up to the drop down
menu where you can select the folder where your photo is stored ,
press the alt key and the down arrow key to make your selection and
then press the enter key.

Tab down to the file list and navigate to that image and press the
enter key to select it.

You'll need to tab to the open button or just press the enter key one
more time, then it should be on screen.

The trouble is, a high capacity SSD is probably going to be prohibitively
expensive and SSD's aren't as robust as spinning drives when it comes to
writes and rewrites to the same sectors. I would get a small SSD maybe 256
gb to hold the OS and its related data and a 1 or 2 tb spinning drive for
everything else. If there is room, you could mount another internal,
otherwise, an external drive would do the trick.

Hi Blaster,
Your suggestion worked, and I thank you for this. Now, I want to have attachments to always read in IE when needed, so how do I set things up so that attachments will always open in IE? Jim

HTH,
Blaster

Navigate to the folder where your ticket image was saved.

Press the application key or use the shift key plus the F10 key.

Arrow down to the selection titled "open with" and press the right

Internet explorer should be one of your options.

If you saved the image to your desktop, you can press the application
key on that file and one of the options is titled , open file

I don't know how many people would be able to get your mail if you change e-mail programs. I think you will have the same problems, but perhaps with fewer people. Those who receive your mail as spam is out of your control unless, as I suggested, something, perhaps your tab line, is triggering a spam filter. If people don't know how to correct the problem, then they can get friends or hire someone to do it.

Of course, you can try another e-mail program and see if it helps but that should make little or no difference.

Once a perso stops receiving from me, as far as I understand, they won't unless they come from the Net, or, in the case of one, who is pretty savvy, go to Spam for several emails and release from Spam - evidently, once might not do it. In the case of one, I get the message that it is undeliverable.

Do the same people get messages at other times? If your IP address is blocked by the person's provider, they shouldn't ever get any mail from you. also, would you get an undeliverable message? I don't know. But I'm trying to find out if we can rule in or out that possible cause of the problem. And, as I asked a day or two ago, if you use a service like GMail from its web site, is your IP address included in the message?

At this point, without answers to such questions, we may not have enough information to conclude that the provider of the recepient is doing anything, and putting time and effort into correcting that problem may not be the way to solve the problem.

So let's start or make sure this question is answered:
Does the person receive some messages and not others?

That is true. Sometimes, even from Net, people say they don't get my messages - could be I'm clumsy on Net site, think it is mailed when not, but it says message sent, view mail or something like that.

I don't think that's true. She mistakenly thought she wasn't getting mail from one list. She is and, as far as I recall, that was the mail she thought she wasn't receiving.

But is it and to what extent is it a case of domain blocking? For example, as I recall Caroline can use GMail to have mail received by some of these people but not when she uses Outlook from her computer. If she uses Google to send the mail, it is received. The domain is the same. Is the IP address the same/ I would think the sender's IP address is used in these cases.

I sort of wondered if this wasn't the issue. Having been the sysadmin like ann is refering to i can say that doing my job in this case isn't always as easy as it would sound. Did anyone even bother to report the issue to comcast?

The admins can't fix it if they don't know it's an issue in the first place, which is not always necessarily there fault.

Thanks.

Hi all,

<sigh> The problem is that Carolyn is not able to receive email from
certain providers e.g. roadrunner and comcast. Apparently, her email
provider's domain is on some spam catcher at RR.com and concast.com.
This is causing her not to be able to send email to these domains.
It's the domains that are causing the problem. If her sys-admin would
do his job, maybe her friends could receive their email. The spam
blocker at rr.com and comcast.com needs to be tweaked to allow
Carolyn's mail to go through.

That would go on my mail to the lists too, if I went to Outlook and
set that, since these come from my server address, which is in

I don't know if changing programs will do any good and I don't know
if it is your problem or the otherpeoples'
problems. But it won't be difficult to just try another program. If
you want the least to learn, you can try the old version of Windows
Live Mail. I can't guarantee it will work, but I know one or two
people who are using it in Windows 10. I'm not sure if there are any
problems, but as far as I know, if there are, they are minor in terms
of how well the program works in Windows 10.

If you are using POP3, you can create message rules in the program
itself. If you are using IMAP, you can't.

You may want to make this as simple and easy as possible.
At first, you can set up whatever accounts you want and not create
message rules. You can import the address book and just try the
program to see if the people can get your messages who can't now. It
sounds as though not all problems of others receiving your mail will
be solved but, if they are significantly improved, you may want to
switch to the program. If not, it doesn't matter and you can keep
using Outlook.

The program is similar to Outlook Express and as you look through the
program, you will see that there won't be much to learn because of
the similarity.

You can try another program like Thunderbird but the old version of
Windows Live Mail will require the least learning.

Could be. I have no idea how to determine which would be best, where
to find out how to set up message rules for my folders. What to do to
download. How do I transfer from Outlook to whatever? What do I then
do to dump Outlook? I am clueless. Then, after all that, and I had
the same problem?
The one that has the hardest time getting my mail did not get one
from my phone last night.
I started emailing in 2004 - Outlook Express, just worked.
No problem, year in and year out. Now, it seems that emailing is
regressing going backward in time some way or other. How could it
work better in 2004 than it does now? I haven't a clue.
I wonder if I just spent the money on a computer from Computers for
the Blind, if there would be a solution. My computer is four years
old. I'm sure theirs would be older.

More and more, my personal email system is just totally breaking -
like a bombed town. Fortunately, the problem has not happened with
the lists yet. I'm skeptical though.
Many of my recipients have cable email addresses, and that seems to
be the really biggie. With a few, the only way they get s o m e of my
email is for me to go to the Net to send it or my phone. I don't have
a lot of email addresses in my phone - just another job to do I
guess.
I have called my server. They say it is not their problem, since they
will go out on the net. I have checked with Microsoft Accessibility,
who has unloaded and reloaded Outlook - wow, another pain, had to
unfilter 25 boxes and switch from descending order to ascending
order.
So, here is one thing I wonder. If I got rid of my phone company
server and got cable, would I have assurance that the problem would
be solved. Then, too, if I did that, I'd have to change my address in
all of my lists, which all have message rules. Needless to say, I'm
perplexed, annoyed, and frustrated.
Any ideas can't hurt and would be appreciated.
One reason I am so extremely upset is because last week I had
important information for two family members. They did not get the
emails, so naturally did not respond. They could not.
If you pray, don't worry; if you worry, don't pray,
Carolyn
