for those having android issues, I recommend any of the android one phones such as nokia 4.2. or xiaomi mi a2 or mi a2 lite. and commentary is my favorite android screen reader. It's much faster and less laggy than talkback is.

I don’t think they have made them for a good fifteen or so years.  Pam.

Re: Link for commentary screen reader for Android APK file

first turn on commentary, then turn off talkback once commentary is running. in commentary's settings, under tts, set everything to the system voice and check use a single voice. under content presentation settings, in list settings, uncheck the speaking of list ranges and stuff. under action settings and scrolling, set it to swipe left and right to move through icons rather than swipe up and down.

Re: Link for commentary screen reader for Android APK file

no, commentary screen reader is not on the play store. you absolutely 100 percent must get it from the link i provided and install the APK on your android phone using the total commander app on the play store. commentary is made in china, translated to english by volunteers, distributed on the commentary english screen readers telegram group.

I use both, I don't have a daily driver android at the moment, but
that's mainly because of not having the extra to replace my old galaxy
s6. I Love both for different reasons. IOS is boring but there are
some features that make it worth having.

Hi,

I have an android phone for what it does best, and an iPod touch so I can
use the best that iOS offers without spending a fortune. I have the latest
iPod touch 7th gen that came out In May of 2019. So are there others on here
that have both android and iOS to have the best of both worlds so to speak?

I'm going to have an unexpected health problem checked today.  I feel fine but I may be in hospital so I may not be as active on the list.  I'm sure Laaz will do a good job dealing with anything that may come up..

Please don't clutter the list with good wishes messages to me.  You may send them to
Since the messages are directed to me, they would just be clutter on list.

I don't know if the problem is serious or not but it needs to be checked.

Pending Bill in US Congress: regarding reimbursement for blind access tech for workers

Keith S

I was given permission by the list owner, Gene, to post this. Hopefully it will get passed and more of us can enter the work force...

Dear Federation Family:

As President Riccobono mentioned in the Presidential Release, the United States House

and Senate are now back in session and there is no better time to rally support for

our legislative priorities. Congress will be in session until the two week break

at the beginning of October. That gives us exactly three weeks to build serious cosponsor

support for our three legislative priorities

.

Since we have three weeks and three pieces of legislation, we’re going to focus on

one issue per week. I will include bill summaries and cosponsor counts for the relevant

bills in each legislative alert email. This week’s top legislative priority is the

Access Technology Affordability Act.

Access Technology Affordability Act (ATAA)

House – H.R. 2086 – Sponsored by Mike Thompson (D-CA-5) – 28 cosponsors

Senate – S. 815 – Sponsored by John Boozman (R-AR) – 14 cosponsors

This legislation removes an employment barrier commonly experienced by blind Americans

who cannot afford the high cost of access technology by creating a refundable tax

credit in the amount of $2,000 to offset the cost of these technologies.

These cosponsor counts are impressive, but we need to keep the pressure up to ensure

that ATAA moves from the committees to the floor and is ultimately passed into law.

Please call your representative and two senators and urge them to cosponsor the Access

Technology Affordability Act if they have not already done so. A complete list of

current cosponsors is included at the end of this email.

When you call or email, you might say something like the following:

"Hello, my name is [your name] and I am a constituent of [your senator/representative].

I live in [city, state]. I am calling to urge [your senator/representative] to cosponsor

[S. 815 for Senate calls/H.R. 2086 for House calls], the Access Technology Affordability

Act. This legislation removes an employment barrier commonly experienced by blind

Americans who cannot afford the high cost of access technology by creating a refundable

tax credit in the amount of $2,000 to offset the cost of these technologies. I urge

[your senator/representative] to cosponsor the bill.

Thanks."

You can contact your member of Congress by calling the Capitol Switchboard and asking

for the office in question. The number is 202-224-3121. If you email your representative

or senators, please copy John Pare at

I do not use Apple all the way because I think it is to restrictive.  You can't share files and connect directly with an android user or windows user via bluetooth, for example.  Still I own all three, Windows Android and the mac for my software development work because needs must.

Hello Josh! I just found your link to the commentary screen reader. I installed it! What should I do next? Can I use TalkBack and commentary at the same time so I can get commentary turned on? if I turn off TalkBack, I will not be able to access the on button to turn on commentary. if I allow commentary to begin talking, what then? I will then have commentary and TalkBack both running at the same time. I do have the shortcut to stop TalkBack by pressing both volume buttons enacted. Can I do that to stop TalkBack even while commentary is running after I turn commentary on? Thanks a lot Josh, and I would be very interested in being a part of this commentary development. I talk on the Android less a lot, and I love to participate, and help blind people use their Android phones. Please feel free to email me offline at
