I don’t want to disappear so I’m letting members know that I may be going into hospital again today.  I won’t have a computer so you’ll know I’m in again if you don’t hear from me later in the day.

Exe is assumed and doesn't have to be typed whhen you type an exe command.  That is true unless there are more than one identical filenames, one with an exe extension and one without one in the same folder.  But I don't ever recall coming across such an instance.  Just sndvol will do.

Press windows key r and type
sndVol.exe
and press enter.

Tab to the setting you want to change and up and down arrow to set levels.

Hi all,

When not using external speakers the volume of my laptop isn't loud
enough. I've gone into the volume settings in windows 10 but I'm not
sure where to go from there to increase this volume. Help please?

Re: chrome browsing history

What is the problem?  We can tell you how to do what is suggested but technical support loves to provide generic answers that may or may not work; they are just answers that have little to do with any analysis of the actual problem.  they are just general check list answers.

You may get solutions that are more likely to work from the list, or it may turn out that what you were told may be the most likely but we don't know yet.

I don't like solutions that, as a first resort, tell you to get rid of stored data, regardless of how you use your browser and whether you may want to use it later, unless such solutions are really the best for the problem, not just some generic scripted solution.

Some laptop internal speakers aren't very loud.

The easiest way to check and change the internal volume is the following:
Hold the Windows key and type r wile doing so.
You are in the run dialog.
Type sndvol
and press enter.
You are now in the main volume setting.  If it isn't at 100, move the slider to 100.  Probably typing home will do so.
Tab around and see if there are any other volume settings you want to adjust.  If you have Winamp opened, you will see the volume and can change it.  I said if you have Winamp opened.  I don't know if it has to be doing something, such as playing a file or paused for you to see the volume control.

If you have a USB sound card plugged in, you can see and change its volume in the same way.  Many external soundcards have their own volume control, which may be more convenient for changing the main volume setting for the card, the setting you are in when you first open the volume control settings as I described.

1. AnyBurn. http://www.anyburn.com - Just as good, and very like, CDex, which now comes with bloatware I have not figured out how to opt out of installing.

2. Pontes Media Downloader, new version just out. http://www.pontes.ro - Malwarebytes claims this site contains trojanware--software that says it does one thing, but actually does something completely different, something you probably won't want done. I think it's a false positive, but one never knows.

emailing from gmail to yahoo seems to be ending up in spam

Hello,

I've got two contacts, that I email from my gmail account, they're
both on yahoo, and we've gone back and forth, but most of the time my
messages end up in their spamboxes. These are not any kind of
solicitation-type messages they're personal/business interactions.

Any ideas on this or has anyone else seen this behavior?

Thanks.

Well, my grumpy good buddy, you've got it bad.
Don't you know? Texting could lead to sexting.
Imagine all the potential opportunities you may be denying yourself because you choose not to send messages with finger taps.
Instead, you choose to use the archaic custom of voice printing!

Iswitched to a cell phone more than 10 years ago.
I now have an older I phone that will update to the newest version of I o s for at least the next 2 years.
And I still have not sent a text message.

Your observation about people and their ADDICTIONS to smart phones and texting are correct.
It's like flies and honey or kids and candy; they just can't help it.

Of course, you can sign up for a 2 day digital detox, but you will likely need your digital assistant to do that.
And let's go for the Maria Condo junk shedding program and the juice purge all on the same weekend.
I best stop here as things may start getting graphic.
Grump on, old buddy,
Monte

Hello Ann,

As a Grumpy old Dude, I have asked that same question now, since so many people will Text one another, even when sitting across the Table from each other, instead of actually Talking to each other.

I actually witnessed this at one of our Families Christmas dinners!

I was taking a Class, and the Instructor was very regularly checking and re-checking their Phone to see if anyone had sent him a Text message. And I've seen the same behavior from others too.

My Mother will Text her youngest Son, my brother, because she doesn't really want to talk with him. Texting keeps him at arms length, and she doesn't need to listen to him going on and on about something. At least this is what she tells me.

Now I know that I am a Rare Guy since I have yet to buy a Cell Phone of any kind, let alone one that Texts, or tells me where I am if I get lost.

The last time I visited my local Agency for the Blind, Everyone, and I do mean, EVERYONE had a Smart Phone of some kind. And it seemed like everyone was on them, not talking to anyone, but texting or doing something else on them.

I was in a room full of other Blind folks, waiting to talk with someone, and it seemed like everyone in that room was Tapping away on their Cell phones. There was almost No Conversation, and when there was, it was very short.

Not sure what this means, but what ever it is about using a Smart Phone, seems to be Addicting for sure.

I was at a large Bus stop the other day, and my wife was with me, and she said most of the folks waiting for the Bus, were on their Phones. And she was right, because hardly anyone was talking to anyone else.

Strange to have 20 or 30 people standing around so absorbed with their
Phone, they busy themselves with Texting rather than become involved in
a Face to Face conversation.

guess if I was a Woman, I might not wish to speak to strange Men who
would come up and start a conversation.

but, I guess the Bottom Line is, I do find today's Texting habit to be
an Odd one.

And I am not against Cell Phones, just have never Needed one, and so am
still Phoneless in Seattle.

Hope we never suffer a Cell Phone Tower Tragedy, that knocks out the use
of all Cell phones. What would all of those people do if they didn't
have the use of the Cell phone?

I am starting to really dislike it when a Clerk, at the Store tells me
to Check the Stores Web Site for more information about the Product for
which I have just asked them a question.

I get this if I am in Person, or calling by phone.  Very annoying!

Employers are Begging for People with Skills, and we seem to have so
many that have next to Zero Skills, and don't seem to be working to
learn some.

Do these folks know how Dependent they are for others to take care of
them?    Do they even Care?

When I phoned yesterday, all I got from tech support was go to the ATT web site and look for myself.  I tried with no luck.  I decided to not ask for a supervisor because ATT has a habit of putting me on hold for 20 minutes or more.

Thank you very very much for this post.

Hi group,

This is obviously some sort of spoof.  If you look at the underlying address to the link, it isn't an AT&T address.  It starts out with something like times.yahoo.com and then has a huge sub page address spanning 4 lines in a normal text editor's edit field.

I would contact AT&T and see what they have to say, but I would never use that type of link in an e-mail to access what is supposed to be a site from a company or server to which I had a subscription.

Last year was an exception to Apple's usual iOS upgrading practices. Normally, the oldest version iPhones get taken off the upgrades train. So next year, if things go their normal way there, at least iOS6s and 6s+ will be taken out.

was the way they did with 12 for IPhones 6,.
