Re: Virtual Recorder question

Record what, an Internet stream, something using a microphone or recording
from something like a turntable? Are you saying you don’t want JAWS to be
heard in the recording and you want to do other things while recording? We
need details. Also, what source setting are you using now for
recording? Are you using the what you hear setting?

Do not call that phone number. And never ever ever ever never ever let them connect to your computer. They will try to Siskey it and you will never get your data back once that happens. They are usually scammers from New Delhi India. Please never fall for that.

Hi Loy,
I don't know where it comes from, but the misleading part is
it saying to call Microsoft, and this isn't a Microsoft thing as you well
know. Where they get you is if you call the number they'll say the only
way to remove the trojan is blah blah ..., and want a credit card
number to fix the problem.

Re: Creating play lists
Steven Johnson <saxmonger@...>
Thanks Thom. I didn't know that a playlist is just a text file consisting
of a list of URLs of songs on my local drives. This led me to discover that I could generate a playlist from a folder with or without all of its subfolders from the command line. I did this by doing the following: 1. Get to command prompt by doing Windows R and typing cmd followed by enter 2. Navigate to the folder to be made into a playlist. In my case, I typed h: and hit enter, followed by cd my music\jazz. 3. Then, I typed dir/on/b/s > playlist.txt followed by enter. 4. I type exit, and find playlist.txt at the bottom of my jazz folder. I opened it up in Notepad, and removed the list of root folders at the very top of the file. The finished product looks something like this. H:\My Music\Jazz\Airmen of Note\Airmen of Note - Children of the Night - 02 - Oleo.mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Airmen of Note\Airmen of Note - Rocks in My Bed.mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Airmen of Note\Airmen of Note - Song of the Volga Boatmen.mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Airmen of Note\Airmen of Note - The Anvil Chorus.mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Airmen of Note\Airmen of Note - The Glenn Miller Tradition - 14 - All the Things You Are.mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Airmen of Note\Airmen of Note- My Funny Valentine (Vaughn Nark).mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Al Di Meola - Kiss My Axe\Erotic Interlude (Interlude #2).mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Al Di Meola - Kiss My Axe\Gigi's Playtime Rhyme (Interlude #1).mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Al Di Meola - Kiss My Axe\Global Safari.mp3 H:\My Music\Jazz\Al Di Meola - Kiss My Axe\Interlude #3.mp3 5. I do ctrl S to save the text file, then I exit it and rename it playlist.m3u. 6. Bingo, my Winamp opens it and plays my music. I hit the letter S in Winamp to turn on shuffle, and I have random jazz for days.

Re: Creating play lists
Thom Spittle
Hi everyone,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I have watched this thread and seen some good advice on playlist. I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. A playlist is a text file with a list of song paths. For example, here is a path to Tim McGraw, "Live Like You Were Dying" "F:\Music\T\Tim McGraw\Greatest Hits Volume 2 (2006)\Tim McGraw - Greatest Hits Volume 2 (2006)\01 - Live Like You Were Dying.mp3" If I had the path to my favorite songs in a notepad text file, then saved it but changed the txt extension to M3U, it would then be a playlist that winamp and itunes, or windows media player could recognize. I hope this helps anybody's understanding of what a playlist file is all about. Take care, Thom

Re: Dear Friends, Should I do a "Disk Clean Up" on my 8, 9, year old External T - Drives?
Gene
In general, except for one possible case, I doubt
that doing a cleanup would accomplish anything. the purpose is to remove files
that accumulate that don't do anything but waste space. The operating
system isn't on the external disks and you aren't running files on them.
You should have either no or almost no useless files if you just use it for
storage. One thing I don't know about is something like System Restore
keeping a record of what is on your drive. I see no point in that, and, if
it is monitoring your drive, you might save room, I'm not sure how much, by
stopping monitoring. If the old file is left, that keeps information about
the drive, you might save room, but I don't know how much, if you remove the
file.
But others who know more may
comment on that.
